Interviewing at Amgen, is it as bad as all these posts?

I agree. I have been here for several years and I am in oncology as well. I am very happy here. There are things that could be better but when I look at the overall package that Amgen and the OBU offers, I feel like this is a great gig. But, I have had the same manager the entire time I have been here and my DM is great. So, I am sure that is a big reason why I like it here.

If you are coming on CP for advice, you are doing yourself an injustice. CP is typically full of complainers. Rarely do people that are happy get on here to sing the company's praises, which is unfortunate.

I think it comes down to what BU you are in and your manager. Oncology is the place to be (at any company) and my manager is wonderful to work with, that's why my situation may be different from others here.

This person likes to bend over, drop the soap and gets white creamy goodness in the p00per!

I have not recommended a single person to come to Amgen. My friends would beat the living crap out of me if I F'd them over. Worst Pharma company I have ever worked for in my career.

Oncology is a different world. 3 calls a day and that includes phone calls.

The other BU's can be up to 9 face to face targeted calls a day. Growth rate of 20% plus for a product that has been out for 5 years. Nine targeted physicians calls on top of the mountain of administrative work. There are distractions from every angle. There are constant training topics that requires us to be out of the field. Mindless conference calls. The home office and managers doesn't understand that these extra activities takes us out of the field way too much. Field time if filled with other nonsense activities.

Then to top that all off, micromanagement seems to be the style of many inexperience managers/RSD. You should have a degree in accounting to manage all the excel sheets that will come your way. Excel sheet excersicse will not come once but likely 3 times for the same damn request that you thought you have already completed. Fill is out for the RSD, fill this out for your manager, fill this out for whoever.

These are the things that a hire manager will not tell you when he/she is trying to sell you on these positions. Managers are applying are applying outside the company. They want to leave too!

If you need a job, accept it. If you don't, please for your family's sake keep looking. There is no balance here what-so-ever.

I have been here a couple months, just getting through training. I am shocked how bad it is and wish I didn't come here

I love spreadsheets and the constant why did I see doctor X....because you said he was an A doctor and I had to see him weekly! Duh!!!!! The micromanagement is so fun.

You better get all your A and B calls in to no see doctors so basically choose to LIE or get fired for lack of calls. I'll just blame my manager bc he is telling me to put in false calls to get our district numbers up

There are so many no see doctors. I park in the parking lot and walk by the office and stay there for 30 mins so I can fake my calls. It's horrible but what can you do when you have to have calls. This place is worse than primary care. Should have stay where I was before. 10k more is worth the constant stress and bullshit activities and expectations from this place. You feel like an indentured servant here at Amgen. No respect unless you are the district suck up that sleeps with the dm or rsd.

Everyday I ask myself how does Amgen why I wanted to work here because it is like hell on earth when you dig deeper and talk to others u realize this would be the worst professional mistake you could make to your career. don't do it you will regret it

Not trying to discount your experience because it sounds awful. But, I think you should qualify your post by stating your division.

I am in oncology and my experience here at Amgen is nothing like yours. I am not required to do any spreadsheets. I only synchronize my iPad one or two times a week. My manager leaves me alone and only rides with me twice a quarter. I only stop at a couple of places everyday. I am not stressed out by metrics at all, like I have been at previous companies.

I tend to have the same feedback as other oncology reps have stated here- I am happy and enjoy working for Amgen. My problem is that you can't label the whole company as horrible, if it is more of a divisional problem than it is a company problem. I have worked at enough companies to know that Amgen is a decent company. I have a great base salary, have made consistent bonus, won a couple of trips (individual and team), and drive a much nicer car than industry standard. Also, the 401k is one of the best in the industry and we get stock as reps! I have worked at four other companies and never been awarded stock as part of my annual raise. So, I have a very positive view of Amgen. Have you ever considered switching divisions? If not, good luck at finding something else. You sound miserable.

This is exactly why are company is going downhill, right from the mouth of our legacy Oncology division. As you heard, Oncology reps don't even work and they are proud of that.Nothing to hide there! Sad to say you don't work or sell anything YET collect a big check. This is why our company is falling apart, don't you see it? The oncology division is known for being non productive and pointless. Of course, you will stay until it all falls apart, which it is and will.

OBU=Both rise and fall of Amgen

All hail to the OBU! Um, not. UR all a joke and made fun of constantly. Get w the program

Says the guy who is angry about making less than the oncology reps in base whose co-workers admit to running around "sitting in parking lots" in order to count enough physician calls to go home. You are totally right, you are the better salesperson.

The difference between you and I is that I actually like my job. I sell rewarding products and actually get calls from my customers asking for my insight on indications, reimbursement, and dosing. I have been in your shoes and know the difference between a consultative role and a drop info and run call. I feel for you because checking 9 physician boxes a day stinks. We all know it's unrealistic and hate lying. But, when I was in primary care, I did it too. That's why I like the OBU- because nurses, pharmacists, OPMs, CFOs, Cancer Center Directors, etc are all important to my business. So, making account-based calls makes more sense.

I love my job. I don't have to get on this crab board and belittle you constantly in order to feel better about myself. I just don't like people like you throwing Amgen under the bus. Some of us actually appreciate our salary, benefits, and situation. During a week when you should be thankful for what you have, it really speaks to your character reading all the hatred spewing from your ungrateful mouth. Grow up.

You basically said you don't work and collect big money. We believe it is YOUR character that is in question.
