Hospital Reps

Western Region had more resignations last week of which two were in RF district---he's lost 5 since launch of Teflaro. Looks like 3 more resignations in the Western Region on top of the two from this district. This must be close to 50% turnover since launch! Wow! Run!

It really depends on who the DM is. What's clear to Forest is that there hasn't been model for success. External hires, internal hires, Hospital exp, anti infective experience seems not to matter. If you can demonstrate a fire in the belly and the ability to overcome challenges you'll have as good of a shot as anybody else. Keep in mind that this is a two way street. Are you ready to work 12-14 hrs a day? These territories are open for a reason. Likely for poor performance. Can you make things happen in 6months? At 6 months, if you have no traction you'll get a letter of concern. 1st year turn over has been through the roof. This a pure numbers game and it doesnt matter if you're 15yr vet, youll get fired for poor numbers. Look at your hospitals, if they are small community hospitals youll be fine. If they are teaching hospitals or part of a large health system, it'll be a tough gig. Hope that information helps and I hope you make the right decision.

Well said. There is a reason why Forest puts you on a 6 month probation period. They shake out the fat from the start. Also there is great reason why Forest is the worst company in the industry and its reputation is shit. No rep worth their ass is coming here on a temporary probation clause, I cannot believe how long Forest has gotten away with this and how desperate and pathetic people must be to work in an environment like you explain above.

First off...sorry this is a repost...2 years of device exp (1099, neuro, cardiothoracic, new products I put through eval and approval)...certified research assistant...what are the odds of getting a serious look for an open hospital rep position without antibiotic exp as preferred on the job posting? I'm smart enough to realize my earnings are inflated due to absorbing all expenses...my 175k = 85-90k in pharma when you consider car, gas, insurance, etc. Considering bc I live in a small, maxed out market and actually enjoy the technical side of pharma due to my clinical research exp. Thoughts?

There is nothing clinical about pharma sales dope! This is a sample drop and bagel boy catering job. If you want clinical, go be a doctor, you are in the wrong place putz, and certainly wrong company. This is all about 10 calls per day and computer tracking on your activity, nothing more nothing else....hear that music loud and clear. Save yourself the misery.

This is all concerning.

From a different thread with the header stating the above:

Wow. You are spot on. This type of behavior is also pervasive in the hospital division. The culture if terrible and the "off-label" selling while operating under a CIA is incredulous! A high percentage of the DM's lead by fear and offer no leadership. The Western Regional Manager has a team of "yes" DM's and promotes breaking every rule under the sun in the hospital divisions at any cost! You nailed it in this letter and there are LOTS of others whom have left that departed due to everything that was outlined. Forest WAS a good company but has taken a dramatic turn for the worst. Also, head of compliance (JZ) looks the other way and the HR Department just gives people Severance Agreements to "shut them up." Good luck. The economy is tough but if you can find another position with another company that doesn't embrace these kinds of attitudes that ultimately lead to this kind of culture........leave![/QUOTE]

Forest has a probation period? Funny. They must really hire poorly.

I have been with this company for a long time, I used to like working here. I have done very well here including PC winner. This job is now a total nightmare!! My RD and my DM have no idea what they are doing, the company has made very bad business decisions with this drug and are now freaking out and making everyone's lives miserable. I feel like I now work for a different company than I used to work for!!

You must be in N FL!

An undercover reporter wants to do a story on the economy and why resignations would be so high in a highly coveted pharma sales position with good pay and benefits. Thoughts??

Coveted? Listen chump, everyone knew what they were getting into when they joined Forest. This is not a top 25 pharma company, not even a top 50. These are jobs for the unemployed and entry level hack so your question is more apt for a real biotech or pharma outfit that has a good reputation, Forest makes no claims to be a dream job, shit even at my interview the manager stated that this job and company was not the most desired and that has been well documented, do some research before you assume that people have an expectation that this is "coveted" Forest is well known as the motel 6 of this industry.

This sales force is the first time Forest has had to open up their pocketbooks. Prior to this launch nearly every rep was brought in at 50k from a B2B background. The culture is absolute madness. You get 6months and if you're in the bottom 25% then you get a letter of concern. People in B2B and medical devices think this is nuts. I think every rep that has left was most likely managed out. They saw the targets on back and started their exit strategy. So far the turnover rate after 1 year has been between 25-40%. My advice for anyone thinking about going after the hospital position is to find out more about the territory. If the territory is doing nothing then the chances of it turning around because of you is unlikely. Every territory has been worked hard.

You are correct - culture is pure madness. Managers that were once well-liked have become unbearable...obviously they too are feeling the pressure. I wish I would have analyzed the territory before coming on board. Unrealistic expectations lead to anxiety-provoking sleepless nights. Being the eternal optimist that I am, I am hoping it turns around.
