Ford Fusion... Are You Kidding?

My Wyeth (before Pfizer) buddy retired more than 10 years ago. He got bored after a few years. He has been a contract sales rep since then. He loves it. He already has pension and other incomes. Working three days a week, kids all gone, house paid for...with benefits...not too bad at all.

My plan too. Envision this - pharma sales forces largely made up of old farts doing contract work. From Ken and Barbies to retirees needing hobbies. Now that is something worth looking forward to. Just what the doctor ordered for what will become needed supplemental retirement income for many. My day has been made.

Not a shabby plan. You would have decent money coming in with a Merck pension and rollover from 401K. You work three days a week promoting soon-to-be-generic products. Let's be honest...it is more of a sample drop than detailing. You may not have money for any lunches. You may still get free lunches from whoever the big pharma reps you partner with. You get reimbursed for miles driven. Some benefits. You have four other days each week to pursue hobbies, have fun, relax, check on your investment and enjoy life.

This guy was lucky and started when things were different. Who can even get to retirement years? Bumped before qualified for anything besides pennies. For older reps with no job options its horrific.

There are still some tenured Merck people in the company that will do okay when they retire. It is a dying breed though. When I joined the company, we had retirement parties all the time. People were valued and worked until they retired. Now we don't even dare to ask why someone is not at the meeting anymore.

Scientist turned business and made it to twelve. Moved on for bigger money and much bigger.

I do count my blessings for being in this position. Pharma has been good to me only because of timing. What many of us were able to do in retirement planning as career field reps is sadly no longer possible. I'm also looking at another part time opportunity that I can do from my home office computer in health information services. It pays $500/week or $2000/month for working 2.5 days/week. It is our fun money for trips, concerts, and various sports. My investments now are extremely conservative. We'll see how the markets hold up over the next couple of months and reaccess things after the November election results are known.

Hey "DUMB ASS"! Merck does want to retain the best. Be lucky you have a job shit head! They let all the smart people go so they could keep stupid idiot's like you.

Shut the fuck up!
