Ford Fusion... Are You Kidding?

I was totally guilty of ripping on the Fusion but after test driving it I completely changed my tune! This is definitely a good car - a little on the small side for me since I'm tall, but a very good car. I can see why it's Car of the Year.

Next topic please.

Totally agree. The old Ford Fusion is not the new Ford Fusion.

This is a very totally acceptable mid-sized car. I welcome driving one of these if I still have a job by the time I'm due for a new one.

This is going way off topic. I don't usually consider these kind of web sites as credible. My observation is based on living in areas with a large Asian population for many decades. There are many causes for osteoporosis: genetics, lack of calcium intake, not believing in even treating it, lack of exercise, lack of sun exposure, small frame, etc.

Here is my obligatory comment to stay on topic: The Ford Fusion looks real good. You should see and ride in my old Ford Escort.

Well, if I could have pulled the 100 page CDC report and posted it, I would have. Yes, the Asian population does have the disease but the highest percentages belong to the countries that consume the most milk/butter/ice cream. Period.

I agree there are many reasons, probably as many reasons for the disease as there are opinions on the Ford Fusion and what fun it will be as a winter car. LOL

I assume you are not working for Merck nor a pharmaceutical company? Being so anti-disease and yet we have products for cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, all kind of vaccines have to create a lot of conflicts. I don't know how can I sell effectively if I think all the diseases are created by evil entities?

My first company car was the ugliest and most uncomfortable crappy looking Reliant K. One of the first FWD then. The Ford Fusion looks heavenly by comparison. We were happy to have jobs and a company car is well, just that. We don't think about comfort, self esteem, is it a sign of true love from Mother Merck... We drove around, rain or shine, to call on customers and make a living. May be Merck can reward the top 1% performers with a BMW for one year. The other 99% should quietly go to work. People are expecting so much and yet contributing so little these days.

Ashamed to be associated with a bunch of whinning spoiled brats! Just get in the damn car..which ever one they 'give' you and go to work! If you hate the damn car and want to commit suicide...do the rest of us a favor and go ahead...or quit and go to work for GSK! Whata bunch of babies!!

Not so fast with the brilliant accolade for painting pharma and defense industries with a negative brush. Certainly both of these industries are far from perfect, some more so than others. However, you cannot deny that good and great good have come from them as well. Just about anything can be used for good or bad and we must always strive for good. When greed and power becomes the driving force behind anything, then bad always follows. I left the industry when our marketing people felt VIOXX should be first line anti-imflammatory pain pill for everybody, not just those at greatest risk for gi bleeds. Look what happened. Go figure.

Yes, in my next phase I will try a career that shows compassion, helping others...say catholic priest for example, or physician doped up on pain meds, or child abusing teacher.

Do you really have to wait until your "next phase" to show compassion or help others? That's pretty depressing if true. In whatever you're doing, pharma rep/manager or priest, or doc, or whatever, work with integrity. If you can't, you'll then know it's time for your "next phase."

Aren't you the little KoolAid drinker. . . LMAO - I work in this industry but know that Eastern, Lifestyle and Complementary Medicine offer just as much for chronic care. Western Medicine is best at Acute Care. Period. I have no idea where you think that I think all "entities are evil". However, you are right about one thing, I hate this job and it IS NOT SALES. We are just useless extensions of marketing. We run around most of the day TRYING TO DRUM UP VALUE. You are really delusional if you think doctors find what we have of any real value to their business or patients besides samples or patient education (which I don't have). . . MY nursing educational materials suck too and my studies are more than 12 years old. So, what were you saying I should do on my next doctor call that is within mother's policies? My biggest concern is driving three hours a day to see the few that need some education in the middle of winter, middle of nowhere, with jumping deer, three feet of snow, and sub-zero temperatures for months on end. . .

I can only suggest you take advantage of your opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature without getting yourself hurt or killed. You are so right about the other nature. as in nature of our work. I'm with you in that regard. It is pretty pathetic. I was reminded just how pathetic after reviewing physician/dept utilization data of some patient education pieces from a few years ago. This is what I now do for a living?! Amazing but true. I guess our products sell themselves.

Don't know what else to tell you. You don't like Merck. You don't like your territory with jumping deer. You don't like Ford Fusion. You think we are in a conspiracy to promote useless products to treat phantom diseases. You know this job has deteriorated into catering and UPS somewhat. You see our jobs provide zero value. You don't care for having old reprints. Well, established end-of-cycle products are not going to get funding for new studies. Are you sure you want to work for Merck or even in this business? There are other jobs out there that may be more appealing and less depressing for you.

Agree. Say bye bye and move on.

Sorry. These are your concerns, not Merck. Please be realistic.

And NOW we are full circle back to the stinking economy the 20 percent unemployment in my area, where even PhDs are working at Walmart. Merck knows this as do most of the companies and they are going to put the thumbscrews to all of us just for S&Gs. I wish I could move on and believe I'm trying to get out but when you hit over 50 - forget about employers wanting to pick you up. Too old for that device edge, or so the interviewers think. Too old for many sales jobs. Can't lift anything too heavy, don't have experience in engineering, food sales or hospitality. Don't care for home health or funeral sales and certainly not going to do financial planning or real estate. So I AM RETRAINING FOR A NEW INDUSTRY. But, it's America and youth rules. The minute you grow old, you become valueless - kind of like a Ford Fusion!

You are kidding me that you think what you do is important or holds any REAL medical value . . . really? I think you like the money, the flexibility and have no problem lying through your teeth to make management think we really move share and business. (Note: many vacant territories are TOP performers! LMAO.)

But don't forget, IT'S A KID'S JOB. No matter how good you look, you are no longer a kid. I haven't found too many employers impressed by pharma sales person's skillsets either. Is it possible you could wind your career down with a CSO? I do wish you good luck.

Sales is a kids job or a way into better things. CSO is for the kids and young married but not anyone with the need for building paying serious bills or the urgency of building retirement when you are approaching those cut off years.

My Wyeth (before Pfizer) buddy retired more than 10 years ago. He got bored after a few years. He has been a contract sales rep since then. He loves it. He already has pension and other incomes. Working three days a week, kids all gone, house paid for...with benefits...not too bad at all.
