DM meeting next week to discuss realignment?

if they think im going out into the field today they are clinically insane. i will spend the day taking pictures of my balls and mailing them to Novartis HQ. Thoughts and prayers go out to all employees and DMs.

Just got off the phone with my DM. This is a sh!tty day indeed. I still have my job as a G, but my G counterpart is being let go. I guess they are only keeping one G or migrating one of the G's to a new territory to make them geographically smaller. So some might be staying with Alcon just new smaller territories. M's are ok except for a few in smaller or managed care challenged markets. Some M territories will get larger to cover the dissolved ones. O's are gone but will be allowed to interview for any vacancies as will anyone else let go. My manager said there are a bunch open due to the hiring freeze the last few months. SEE is downsizing with select reps staying on to join the Vision Care division. This is crazy! Best of luck to everyone and my sympathies for those leaving the company today. The culture here has changed drastically in a negative way over the past 3 years and I feel much of that can be attributed to upper management and our leadership team. Our value to the company has declined in their eyes and they've shown us how little we matter. Maybe these layoffs are a blessing to many...

Thank you for the info. Are you on east coast? What time locally did they call you? Are the rumors about Fred being gone true?

Just got a call, I'm an M. There are territory realignments effective Feb 1, managers are taking 'portfolio' positions, so Acute and Chronic no longer exist, and will have smaller geographical areas to cover. Some positions will be lost, some M territories will get an overlap MSR. There are vacant territories where people who are 'displaced' will have first shot at an interview. My DM will no longer be my manager but he still has his job.
They have to read from a script and are not able to answer most of your questions.
Good luck to everyone today!

I'm assuming all SEE reps on contract will be laid off today at the 4pm call. It only makes sense. They will tell us we have an opportunity to interview for open positions with Alcon but so will the other contract (OSRs I believe). Good luck everyone. This happens all the time nowadays but that doesn't make it easier. Ask for references and network as much as possible. In the meantime, get unemployment!

What does a person need to do to file unemployment? What is the best and most practical way to go about this? My guess is they won't share this with us on the cc at 4...lol!

Go on the net to your state's unemployment office. It is a very easy process to go through. With the bad economy the last 5 years this is all boiler plate stuff now.

If laid off they will probably provide you with the packet of information via fedex/ups to our homes, with the necessary info to file unemployment. Typically, the HR dept takes it from there, and unemployment is available at least after severance runs out. I would be more concerned about benefits expiring, especially if you are single/have no other options in the household.

Cobra is REALLY REALLY expensive...a family of four can cost around $2,000 per month.

I was laid off by a very large employer and this post is right, they will make it easy on you at Alcon. I am sure this has been orchestrated months in advance, so it will be easy as it can be.
