There are two kinds of people:

1) Those who think of their fleet car as a status symbol. These people tend to be neurotic and unhappy.

2) Those who think of their fleet car as a free vehicle they use to get from point A to point B. These people tend to focus on what's important, achieve more, and generally lead happier lives.

We all have total control over which mindset we choose.
 






Please no fleet cars. I came from another company 10+ years with a fleet car.

I thought it was sad at first to use my own car, but now I wouldn't want it any other way. Thanks for treating us as adults and allowing us to choose our own cars. Even after repairs and rock chips and all this simple liberty has been so refreshing. The reimbursement is very fair. Not going to make money but that's not the point. I don't break even but it's from my choice to buy a nicer vehicle. Those that choose simple vehicles may break even but again, it's their choice.

I agree!! Please no fleet vehicles. I love being able to choose my own car. Car allowance is just fine with me. Please please please, NO FLEET CARS.

If we go fleet, reps will probably get chevy malibu or ford edge for 4 wheel drive in snow states. You don't want a crappy car chosen for you. Believe me, fleet is not the way to go.

They ain't gonna pay for no Ford Edge. More like a basic stripped down Ford Escape as the 4 wheel drive option. I'm with the poster above, no fleet car. Let us keep the allowance and choose our own cars!!
 


















Form what I can tell, it appears as though only those who've worked big pharma are having an issue with the car allowance. My allowance is adjusted every 6 months based on the amount of miles, type of car. I have absolutely no complaints in the reimbursement. I have a very nice SUV with 4WD 3 rows of seats and all the amenities. I have a very large territory & like having my OWN vehicle, its a great "benefit" just like our stock options. My mileage pay is also adjusted according to the amount of miles I average per month. These factors are why those felt they were not given an accurate dollar amount at their interview because it isn't entirely possible. It continually is adjusted to each individual.
I do think its very disrespectful to those who have been working at Alkermes for years and like the current auto policy to now have it changed to accommodate the "new" hires who are inexperienced to the world of Biotech. Its hard to believe that at this point Alkermes has to feel as though they can not attract great talent unless they bow to their naive ways. The irony in all of this is, the drug is not approved, Alkermes hasn't heard from the FDA as to whether or not the application is even being accepted that isn't till end of March, this is the THIRD time they are trying and all of the expansion openings are "contingency" only. If you view the car allowance as a benefit you will see it is a reason to stay.

why not give both options? How hard is that? Those that prefer a company car can get one and those that don't keep getting what they like. Small territories make sense, but drive 30k a year in a big territory and you know what I am talking about.

If you can’t stomach buying your own car then don’t work here. It’s really that simple. Hope that helps.
 






All this talk of our company's decision to continue on with personal vehicle usage needs to stop. I can tell everyone who keeps posting on this subject to please stop. Unfortunately, despite what most are saying, the organization will be implementing a Fleet plan starting mid to late summer 2018.
With the field sales growth we are getting ready to see as well as expansion processes currently underway, it has already been decided to institute a structured fleet leased vehicle program through Wheels Inc. There is a massive amount of liability as well as added expenses in supporting personal vehicle allowances and mileage reimbursement that can be eliminated with a fleet program. Short term vehicle leases (3 years/70,000 miles) as well as a structured fuel card program will help deter expenses and personal liability to the company, not to mention huge corporate tax advantage savings with as many drivers that we will be supporting. It may have made sense as a smaller company with the number of drivers we currently have, but soon it won't be feasible with the growth we will be experiencing. Sorry and please stay tuned as the announcement will be coming shortly after our expansion occurs in the coming months.

really, I always consider the car part the biggest factor in deciding which company to work for, it is way more important than Medical benefits or product portfolio, great thread you have here:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Oh Really?! That's not what I am hearing. I heard survey results were Field Director level and above had close to 100% saying that they want to keep allowance instead of going to fleet. DBL and TBM field sales level had close to 70% saying they wanted to keep allowance and not switch to fleet. Results like that will rest assured keep us on allowance and not switch to fleet.
 






It seems that all the 'new' hires have horrific credit and can't qualify to buy their own vehicle and get a good loan rate. That's why they are pushing for a company car.

Nobody has been hired yet. There are no new hires. We don’t even have a second drug approved. What new people have poor credit?

I heard the same about the results of the survey. I was also told that the TBM's and DBL's may be forced to go into fleet if we decide to go fleet cars, but regional director level and above will be able to choose between a fleet vehicle or continuing to get a care allowance.

Bottom line is that it was very clear in the survey the the overwhelming majority responded that they want to keep the allowance and do not want fleet vehicles.
 






Don't worry. They will not make anyone go to a fleet vehicle if they don't want to . They may however reduce the company car allowance a little bit. So many on the survey did NOT WANT OT GO FLEET AND KEEP THALLOWANCE
 






All you chumps need to settle down. Unless that people from the HO who should be in the know are not telling us the truth it is very very clear that we will be sticking with the car allowance and not moving to fleet cars. Thank goodness for that!
 






I know this is hard for some of you, but the company really does not care about the survey results. If they run the numbers and company cars limits cash out flow and liability Wheels here we come. Our small company is growing (if our new AD gets approved) and we have to save money where we can. BMW's for all :)
