Board Certification for MSLs

I have been in pharma for 20 years and have hired people for the last 7. This certification is useless. I want someone either with real experience or therapeutic knowledge. Going to a meeting and getting a certificate doesn’t get me jack squat
But hey if you want to just throw around money I know these clowns will be happy to take it

i agree going to a meeting and getting a certificate doesn't matter thats why the MSL -BC is a bad idea. It means nothing.

I'm with Novo Nordisk and just finished BCMAS I have to say it was packed with great information. I agree with the comments above. The so called 'global Medical Dir' sounds like he/she is just trying to bash BCMAS. Maybe you tried to get BCMAS and failed...

MSL for 13+ years. I'm with a small biotech and we implemented BCMAS for our field medical team. Positive feedback so far. To me BCMAS is a great reference and resource.

I just completed it.. I work with celgene. Exam was tough but I just found out that I passed. Learned a lot as well Definitely worth it. BCMAS was great

“Work with Celgene” is a lot different than working for Celgene. I work with the Mayo Clinic, but last time I looked my paycheck doesn’t come from them. Seriously lame attempt of company name dropping

I took a look at the website. Seriously? The Information in the sylibus is the same information I have lectured on to 1st year pharmacy students in an hour. This is basic stuff boys and girls, and so generic that it is completely useless. If you want to spend $2K on yourself, go take Dan Malone’s PE class at Arizona. That is at least useful. Trust me, not a single person in industry who hire

I am a retail pharmacist who has been considering the BCMAS. I will say that some of the industry folks I've talked to said it's useful others were neutral. I just discovered this site and I'm convinced that whoever is bashing BCMAS must have some axe to grind. It's obvious. Just seems very unprofessional to me and suspect. Just my two cents

Of course they're from the same person. It's obvious But for us who have BCMAS we know it helps. ACMA is doing something good for the industry. You're such a negative asshole know it all. So what if they profit, most companies profit r*****. What do you want them to do give it away for free? Medical Affairs people are constantly bitching about stuff and instead ACMA did something about it by helping them differentiate themselves. I'm a big supporter and gave it to my entire MSL team.

Did you guys see this? ACMA was just quoted in Forbes.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucej...-drugs-gain-share-trump-looks-to-curb-prices/

They were also on ABC News. My friend if they were a scam, I highly doubt they'd be in these places and in the media. Look do I think BCMAS is required to be successful? No I do not. But I think having a professional standard is a good thing for us in the industry.. I'm in devices and think it's a good concept. I was pretty flabbergasted by all the comments on this. It isn't that big of a deal When BCPS first came out there were similar debates. Now BCPS is standard for clinical pharmacists. I also think that the vulgar language here is really inappropriate We are all in Healthcare Let's show a little class.

Listen I actually passed the BCMAS exam a few weeks ago. My company made us do it. I learned a lot of stuff I didn't know about. Only bad thing is that you can't print out materials. So I'm speaking from first hand experience

Most pharmacists are not board-certified, and yet they still practice, teach and care for patients just the same without the BCPS.

When ACCP won't have anything to do with the organization, and BPS won't either, it means it's a meaningless money-making adventure.

So please stop sending BCMAS sales reps to this board. You are not showing any class by continuing to push something which is clearly preying on those wanting to go into industry, but without relevant clinical experience or acumen.

Yeah it sounds like the one guy who keeps putting down BCMAS was probably going to sell it too and then he got kicked out because he sounds like a real schmuck. We can all tell it's you. It's the same ip address! You must not have an MD, PharmD or PhD. And you definitely don't have BCMAS You probably have a BS in landscaping you dumb fuck

I'm a PharmD/PhD, and with those credentials some useless piece of paper costing thousands of dollars and conferring nothing but a certificate of attendance is hardly worth it.

Now do tell us exactly HOW many companies require a BCMAS? Some people bought into it, but likely they either have a financial interest in it, or they are PhDs who have zero clinical experience and can't communicate properly. I have been in industry for over two decades, and even the BPS certifications still don't mean you are ready for prime time industry. A few extra classes regurgitating information that we already know by rote memory are adding nothing.

DIA and related groups offer more comprehensive and useful material than ACMA's dreck.

Again you sound uneducated. All pharmacists that teach must have bcps. You Must be a washed up PhD who can’t get a job and just goes on cafe pharma

Why would BPS matter anyway?? People working in medical affairs aren't just pharmacists. It wouldn't even make sense to have BPS involved. You're saying things that are just ridiculous. I think BCMAS will absolutely be the industry standard. Fully support

Whoa, this thread is a blast lol. There's some serious hate and love on here. I've never heard anyone advocate BCMAS in the numerous MA roles I've held. I'm an n of 1, but after asking a few colleagues I can say the smirks and laughs tell me BCMAS as an 'industry standard' is far from a reality right now. Maybe in the distant future. Who knows?

So many 'my company' claims, yet no 'my company' names. Let us know which company is making their MA professionals do BCMAS so we can get some evidence one way or the other.
