Why is Gilot still here?

Here’s a piece of an article detailing the issue with the industry. It’s interesting to note that we poll dead last - Gallup - among all industries for ethics. They keep the Gilots because the Gilot’s are focused only on making money, and that’s all they care about. We can afford the fines, so why change?

“The pharmaceutical industry is unique in that all large pharmaceutical firms explicitly state that they are focused on promoting patient welfare, yet the majority of large pharmaceutical firms engage in illegal activities that harm patient welfare,” said Denis G. Arnold, a coauthor of the study and a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

“The industry also has the worst reputation of any industry according to Gallup polling. This is an intriguing problem for anyone interested in business ethics and public health,” Arnold stated.

When your industry has “CEOs” - sorry, trying not to barf - like Martin Shkreli, I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised that “minion” “leaders” find ways to wiggle their way out of ethical scandals.

I can’t address the CEO, I don’t really know anything about him. But the EBDs and CBDs are extremely weak. It’s astonishing that this has gone unchecked. I guess if we get another FDA face slap that will change. We’ll see.

I’ve spent most of my adult life in Pharma. I’ve met some senior Pharma people that were good people, and occasionally maybe even a senior person who was a decent enough leader. Most of the senior people I’ve worked with were fairly average, both intellectually and in terms of leadership qualities. Much of this stems from the concept “you get what you reward”. People are promoted in Pharma not because they’re good leaders but rather based on how well the follow directives from above. That is obviously a recipe for creating a leaderless organization, and it is precisely how you end up with the Gilots of the Pharma world telling reps to throw caution to the wind and track down customers in hopes of getting a quick-hit sales message out. Never mind that this actually does more harm than good. All you need to consider is what this kind of behavior did for our sales numbers. But the people at the top can’t connect the dots because they’re focused on recycling the same stale ideas that have made us one of the most reviled industries in history. The “top” of this company is so detached from the “bottom” that we essentially don’t even belong to the same organization. Money drives everything - sound familiar? - so until or unless people like Gilot become a financial burden expect more of the same. If he goes, the person who replaces him will likely be no different; they were grown in the same petri dish, just like the virus they’re pretending to care about.

This could be a standalone thread

Hey guys, it’s Bob. I thought I’d answer the OP’s original question regarding why I’m still here. It’s a long story, but I’ll just sum it up. I’ve been at this a long time, so I’ve more or less cracked the code on how to get ahead in the pharmaceutical world. I was not really very good at sales, but I always knew how to kiss ass. Lucky me, ‘cause if figured out that what my boss really wanted was his ass kissed. He didn’t care much about talent. When I got my first management job I acted like a dick, but instead of firing me, they actually promoted me. So I learned fairly early that being an ass kisser and a dick was much more valuable to me in the pharma world than being a talented leader! Well, the rest is really history. I just upped the amp on ass kissing and acting like a dick, and that’s what brought me to where I am today! Sure, I’ve been fired before, but hey, the industry is always looking for ass-mopping dicks to lead sales reps. Now go hit that back door and quit whining about me on CafePharma!

Good job, poster! Now you’re getting it! We (Tina and I) want you to learn to lead! So do exactly as I say - get out there and do whatever it takes regardless of the risk to you, your family, and those pesky customers - and you’ll be showing excellent leadership potential! As you move forward remember that sales is everything, and you should never let the opinions, feelings and personal desires of those who work for you to get in the way of your number one concern - YOU! I love the enthusiasm! Good Selling!

And we forgot to add, praise us every time you call us or see us on the calls. Because If you don't do that, be ready with the "consequences"............. Backdoor BOB and Tina!

Do we think the AZ legal team thinks this guy’s behavior is acceptable? I have to believe they don’t!
For the hundredth time, they don’t care. The more someone like that is despised by the “little people” the more liked he is by his overlords. They expect him to crack the whip, and they don’t care if he says things that are unethical as long as they don’t get hammered by the FDA. I would bet you that the lawyers looked at his video and decided they could defend it from a legal stand point, even if it is scummy and irresponsible. They’re so morally bankrupt they probably actually think what he put out there was a good thing!

Ridiculous!!!! Bob Gilot was a total mess in Novo. We realized it too late and decided to throw him out. I can't believe he's still in AstraZeneca!!
