Why are BI oncology reps paid more than the rest of the company?

This was one of the most talked about threads at our last meeting. Over drinks we were talking about the #2 DB spot. Charlie certainly has the commanding lead, but it is a dogfight for the second place finisher. He's a quiet fella, but because of his perceived self importance, DS gets my vote.

I'm in oncology and the responses on here crack me up. Most reps can do this job. It's not that we somehow magically posess some amazing IQ or top tier selling skills. The truth is, most of us worked hard, had other desirable qualities, and truly lucked out. It's all about who you know and what you bring to the table during an IV.

The truth is- we make more money than other specialty reps because that is what the market dictates. No matter what company you work for, oncology ALWAYS pays more. I know people that have left here for a $30,000 bump in base. There are a lot of small, start-up oncology companies that are willing to pay for oncology experience. Therefore, it is a supply and demand issue. Cardiology rep experience isn't as sought after as oncology experience is. Therefore, cardio reps aren't going to make as much. I am not saying it's right, that's just how it is. Stop trying to fight the machine and think about jumping over to oncology. I did and I have never regretted the move. As a rep, I am making what I always thought was "DM money" and I am only in my late 30's.

Did Flannery fire Roger H? I know they had their differences, but thought the GSK bond was stronger than that. I guess you never know who your friends are. We'll miss you RH
