What's the real skinny on Zeus?

Congratulations on making the best new contact lens in the marketplace and the layoff of all who developed it.

Something seems a little off here.

It's a shame that there were so many cuts, and nobody in the field is jumping for joy because of all the lives affected. It sucks! But life is tough.....what should we do, go on strike to get your jobs back? Look we are puppets in this game just like everyone else, and at some point we will get discarded too. But for now we serve an immediate purpose for the company, and will be a valued asset for a few more years. Those of us who have been around for a long time out here have a very different understanding of the big picture. So while your congrats was sarcastic, I'll still say thanks! We are happy to finally not have to apologize for our products.

The congratulations for the new product was sincere. Giving customers products that help them feel and see better is a great thing. There is nothing more important than good vision for an improved quality of life. You are also right on the second point. Those who were laid off probably will go on and do great things in the future.

The company spokesman should not make any more insulting comments about the former B+L research team. It does not help them in their search for new jobs and if you are correct that they delivered a great new product it is grossly unfair to insult them as they are walked out the door.

Statement from Valeant's own company spokeswomen on contact lens research at B+L.

In a response to the letter, Valeant spokesperson Laurie Little said in a statement: “While Bausch + Lomb is a great company, the contact lens operations, which makes up the vast majority of the non-corporate based jobs in Rochester, has been underperforming for a decade and in need of a turnaround. ..

So Zeus is the result of an under-performing group? Nice comment to the people that developed the best new contact lens in history.

Typical Valeant sensitivity, morale building, and motivating technique. She must be a real joy to be around.

For those who have been around a long time and are having a hard time dealing with all of this-please understand-or try to understand that the entire industry has changed, not just B & L. It is the same story everywhere. Get bought out and laid off-discarded. It does not make your "loss" any easier. I know. I was a "lifer" at another company that fell apart when changes came about. Lay offs in home office, R & D, warehouses were sold out to third party vendors along with almost every position except the janitors. Even the sales force started becoming "contracted" because they could pay less-no accountability.
Sorry. I know you never expected it. I know you are hurt and disappointed that the place you loved is gone. Sometimes change is good. As hard as it is to move on and find a new home, it is the best thing to do. The sooner you let go of the anger & hurt, the faster you will heal and put it behind you. I know from experience. Its funny, but if you will give up looking at this site and posting on it-it really will help. It took awhile for me and my colleagues who were dismissed, but as each of us moved away from here and found positive things to do with our time ( read a book-) we each quickly got over the anger. We will always remember the good old days and keep in touch with friends made. Like in divorce, the sooner you turn things around and become positive, the better off YOU will be. Staying in this knot of negativity is allowing Valeant to win again. Take care!

Nice post by a Valeant corporate psychologist. It is hard for Valeant management to see people posting the truth about them. Face it, you will get it again after your next big layoff too. Trying to manipulate Pharma Cafe as you try to manipulate public opinion on Wall Street about your "new" business model will not work.

By the way if you really have moved on after you have been dismissed why are you still reading Pharma Cafe Posts.

When you layoff as much as Valeant does the company has to have a good corporate response team to respond to criticism. It is happening everywhere and you need to move on with your life after layoff and stay positive is the standard corporate response to critical posts.

Why is it any time someone posts something that is true and honest you give this same answer? You do this on every b & L thread. Obviously not a corporate post.

The criticisms of the criticisms of Valeant management are ridiculous. Why are you reading Pharma Cafe posts for positive information on Valeant and life? Pharma Cafe is an anonymous message board for discussions about how things are going in companies and suggestions/criticisms for improvements. If all is well in a company there would not be any reason to post and Pharma Cafe would not be needed.

If you want to read about how good things are at Valeant just read the corporate news releases or check up on the financial page and follow the stock price.

"Best new lens in history" ? I hope so, but maybe a little overstated ?

No, it's more or the extremely immature and the overwhelmingly pathetic like you!

It seems as if every new thread is answered by someone who can only spit anger at Valeant for cutting R& D. That is what they do, folks! It does not make them evil. If Bausch had been able to remain viable, they would have-just was not happening. No need to be mad at Valeant for being the one to buy B & L. Be mad at the owners of B & L for ruining things.

Very true.

To answer the OP, Ultra is the first new material in the category in 7 years. It's not just another sihy, it allows more oxygen than any material, has the highest water content, and has the lowest modulus. This will be the market leader in 12 months. It's the best new product we've sold in VC in 20 yrs. We all feel bad for those who we're let go, but this is the best time to be in the field. This lens will vault B&L back towards the top in the lens world. I've seen enough crappy roll outs of me too products. This will change how we do biz and who we do biz with. The lens beats the market leader in every measurable category. We only hope that we can keep up with the orders, because it's already been amazing.

Been a long time coming for a lot of us that stuck around during the awful years.

News Release Monday set to boost sales.
Ultra has been nominated for Contact Lens of the Millenium.

So are you the king who made the cafe pharma rulebook? It does not have to be about bashing companies. I personally think all your posts are pretty redundant and somewhat boorish. Pretty sure we are all more than aware of our previous situation, our current, and the possibilities for our futures.

Do you know how many people were cut when B&L bought ISTA? And how many left because they were sickened by how Bausch treated people and how they did business?

I recently went attended some B & L training classes and was shocked and dismayed at the information given-how to sell under the table and off indication. If anyone heard this stuff, B & L would have been shut down.

There are negatives, yes! But you go on & on& on on thread after thread with the same old info. Cant you come up with something else?

I will reference this thread for 12 months now and laugh at you. If were lucky, this will get our market share to 10%.
