There are a lot of rumors being thrown out there. You may be wondering which ones are true and which are just disgruntled employees slinging mud around. I'm a bit biased, but think about these things to decide for yourself what you want to believe.
1. A lot of current and or former sales reps are very angry. There's been way too much turnover for years, and I can think of three main reasons for turnover. Reps are unable to meet quota, they are unable to make enough money, or the culture is so bad people can't stand to work here. In any case this has to look very bad on the sales leadership and the vp. It's his show and he is responsible to make sure his team succeeds. The reps need to be given the right tools and be put in the right situation with a good plan to execute. I don't think any of those boxes have been adequately checked off, but apparently the top line sales growth has been enough for him to keep his job. Of course that's not the full picture of the situation. Something clearly isn't working and what is worse he hasn't shown any concern about the turnover or done anything to fix it. I think he doesn't know how to fix it. He only talks about how successful he has been and tries to keep everyone quiet, thinking that will hide the problems but it really only creates a toxic culture that builds on itself. Lots of turnover means lots of people with nothing to lose who are probably pretty pissed off at the company and those that hired them. That's a very bad situation for the company.
2. The product is great. It just has to be. How else could it be sold in such numbers with so much turnover and without any good studies? That is very encouraging for the future.
3. Acell leadership is a mess. A DOJ investigation, two CEO's fired, other executives fired, the entire board of directors overthrown, non existent compliance policies until recently, a lot of off label sales, and of course a court battle. If you read the public court documents it is hard to argue the leadership has been competent. That is not good.
4. Change is coming. There is a new board of directors. If you read the bios of the new board members you will see they have far better credentials than the previous regime. They are here to make sure the company succeeds and they have all helped companies succeed in the past. I think they will know what needs to be done. This is great news, but only if they act soon.
Overall I think the company will get through the problems and flourish in the future. I hope everyone will continue to work hard and wait to see what happens in the next month or two.
