I distinctly remember sitting in the WP53 cafeteria around 2000 for an MRL Face-to-Face and hearing Dr. Ed Scolnick tell us that VIOXX was going to be our next big blockbuster, first in class and a hands-down better safety profile than CELEBREX. A sad, sad shame what West Point has become.
 








Hunter drive the last spike into the heart of WP. Preferentially moving operations to KW so he and the other guy wouldn't have to commute as far to work. Can't wait- these idiots have been destroying MRL for too long. They should have been out on their asses many years ago, but they all work together to preserve each other and kiss each other's asses. I hope they will finally get what they deserve- disgusting self serving pricks , every one of them They are all sweating now and it's about time- now they get to squirm like all of the scientists have been for the past five years. Good riddance to useless shit: Tillyer, Vessey, Hill , Hunter, Parmee and many more . Hopefully every one of these turds will be exposed for the frauds that they are. Frankly you could pretty much fire just about every single person in MRL at AVP or higher and nothing would change except the morale would instantaneously get better and people would see hope again. Sad but true.

Amazing scientists, managers, and human beings- both of them. I have immense respect for both of them. Theresa had too much self respect and ethics to play their games. They forced her out years ago and she happily retired. Peter lasted a few years longer but took a package after last years cuts- he couldn't take it anymore and also retired. Not many experienced veterans with those kind of ethics left. We miss this generation of scientists badly.

Damage has been done already. You don't just rebuild a world class MedChem program overnight. It took decades to build the reputation and hire the talent that made the medchem group at WP one of the best in the industry. Same goes for the biology groups at WP. It took 5 years to get the pharmacology groups to where they were at before they decided to let go of many of the most creative and innovative scientists that we had. Anyone that spoke up was let go. Hunter should have been canned years ago. Sure, it'll be great to be rid of that pompous ass, but not before he crushed the spirits of many a good scientists.

We are in the desert for many years to come and Moses is no where to be found...

But it has to start somewhere, and we need something to make people feel good about themselves again- the morale is horrible and we continue to lose good people who are still leaving because of the horrible atmosphere. Getting rid of the loser management would at least start the process and would instantly make morale much better without losing anything. Shit canning Parmee, Hunter, Tillyer, Vessey, Hill and the rest if the losers would at least start the turnaround and would immediately improve morale and productivity. These douchbags need to be held responsible for the destruction they have created - now is the time, good riddance to bad dog shit!
 




If nothing else, it would signal that Roger understands the issue and has taken a big step to correct the problem. He should use the same criteria applied to the rest of MRL. Unless any of these guys have a direct and measurable impact on the PD-1 program then spending another dollar on their salaries is hard to justify when they could be used to advance the most promising drug. Roger should simply ask himself whether any scientific moment in MRL would be lost for the next 9 months were any of these tools asked to leave.

Unfortunately , apparently Roger doesn't have the time to deal with issues in the preclinical research space . That's why he brought in Joe. I hope he will finally give these pieces of shit exactly what they deserve.

Parmee needs to go yesterday. She is incompetent, self serving , ass kissing, and spineless. Unfortunately I don't see this happening in the coming reorg unless Joe really gets out and talks to people. Folks at WP hate her and are openly defiant of her, as she is viewed as a personification of everything that is wrong with Merck. She never shows her face or talks to people, and has become so fearful that she attempts to control the message of every presentation made at WP. She has gotten so paranoid that she is actually taking roll at meetings and calling people out for not being there, and sending people mid meeting to find those who are missing. She is a disgrace to the labs and one of the worse examples of leadership at Merck. Unbelievable that the fraud Tillyer got away with replacing someone like Steve a Young with a complete and utter loser like Parmee. Perfect reason to remove him as well - as if further justification was needed! Unbelievable that this level of mismanagement and gross incompetence has been tolerated this long, only speaks to how utterly incompetent and clueless the levels above Parmee are. The place is in utter chaos, people continue to fly out the doors, and Chris Hill sits in his office and plays with himself while decreeing that "turnover is good". Incompetent Assholes all, need to go NOW!
 




I heard they are converting building 14 to one big site wide vendateria. This will save on the salaries of a few low paid food service workers and make Merck more competitive.

Wouldn't be a big surprise - we have to do whatever we can to preserve the bonuses of the losers who destroyed MRL. Tragic that these people are tolerated and only points to the even greater incompetence of their bosses. Can't believe that Joe will tolerate this for very long- they will all try to kiss his ass like they always do, hopefully he can see through this and purge these parasites from MRL. The list is long!
 




It's tragic what happened to WP. I was let go in last round and can honestly say I am much happier away from that place. It was an outright depressing place to be. Having been with Merck for almost 20 years, I remember the good days. We fell so far from that peak that I am glad to not be associated with that mess anymore.
