Vorapaxar group announces cuts today

whats pitiful to me is to watch these two asses prance the stage after the announcement. it was like "ok, switching gears now...."

while they two(and many others in upper management)continue to ruin lives, families, and futures, they go on to make their huge salaries and bonuses. It does no good now, but if you're a believer in the next life, I hope and believe these guys will pay dearly.

If you're not a believer in the next life these two can know that after they are gone there will be nothing good said about them on this planet. No legacy at all-probably not even with their own families. They'll be long and forgotten.

And don't think that doesn't bother them. Anybody with the power abuser mentality that these two display would be highly irritated to think they have no legacy.

There is Karma. It might take a while to catch up with them but it will at some point

I never understand why people say things like "while they two(and many others in upper management)continue to ruin lives, families, and futures, they go on to make their huge salaries and bonuses." What should the company do if sales is not there and the number of people are not needed in the sales group? Are they supposed to just continue to pay everyone for doing a job that is not needed? What would you suggest they do? Corporate welfare? Reductions are not being driven by either of these two individuals. It is being driven by the lack of sales revenue. You can't continue to pay people when they are generating no income. Basic business and economics. So what is your brilliant solution?

Hey pea-brain-you think this is happening because lack of sales for zontivity? As bad as it is with this it's been an even worse launch for grastek, or whatever it's called. Why no lay-offs for that group? And the very next day after announcing cuts dervisian tells us that we're always looking to buy other companies because "it's great to have a lot of cash on hand." yeah, right. Then look at the salaries and bonuses of the CEO, his board, and the sr. management at year end. This is all driven because of greed, pure and simple. Yes revenues are falling, but why? Management decisions on all fronts. It didn't have to be this way. Look at the last 4 launched drugs and tell me this resembles what we used to have in the past.

And the next day after the announcement of lay-offs, dervisian tells us that "merck is highly dedicated to the CV sales force." How stupid can you get. They actually think we believe that line.

Drop your pants and pay attention

I was gonna say it was good while it lasted but we didn't even get off the ground. nice support from the company to launch a new molecule. most pathetic attempt ever. Even beats the liptruzet and juvastync lauch

And why would you ever think Vorapaxar would be a successful launch? Repeat after me:

Juvasync
Liptruzet
SP promotion out of the gate

3 strikes and you're out!

Nice way to resort to name calling. I am asking you in all your brilliance to suggest what should be done when you have more reps than are needed based on revenue? Keep everyone and pay them for no revenue? Corporate welfare? Reductions in positions is always unfortunate but, Dervishian and Riad are not the architects of this. They are not responsible for wrecking lives, etc. blah blah blah that you continue to spout. The Grastek and Ragwitek reps have not had product to promote during a season yet. But, they will suffer the same reductions if the revenue does not follow. The issue is too many reps, little value & too little revenue. So.........Einsten.....what is your solution for the situation...too many reps and too little revenue? Or are you always going to have a victim mentality?

You must be one of the young MBA types who don't understand the real world. This was certainly their idea and they even said as much at the meeting. And the vaccine has certainly had time to launch. Like I said, it's called management decisions that have long-term consequences. We'll see how you like it in all your Einstein glory when you come to the end of your career in pharma. Oh, thats right-there isn't one anymore. Just keep drinking the koolade and you'll be fine until your number comes up rat ass

I see you're out there working hard today. Typical merck attitude

No MBA. Common sense. And I don't drink anyone's Kool-Aid. And I have no idea what you are talking about (neither do you obviously) vaccines for. We were discussing vorapaxar and someone brought up grastek and ragwitek. No vaccines in the discussion.

So back to my original question that you seem to want to avoid. All decisions have short and long term consequences. You have never answered my question. What is the rationale for paying salaries to un-needed employees based on the short term and foreseeable future business environment and revenues? Do you continue to pay expenses hoping something will change and improve or do you bring your expenses in-line with your anticipated revenues? What exactly would you do differently in this situation?

And I am not dependent on Merck. I had a job before Merck and will have one after.

What is the typical Merck attitude? As a business owner, business changes that negatively affect people and families (including mine) are never ideal or good. However, bringing expenses in line with revenue has to happen to maintain the health of my business. You can debate how changes should be communicated or what expenses to reduce, but the simple fact is when revenues aren't there, you can't continue to spend money unnecessarily and hope to stay in business. Merck is just a larger scale than my business.

Intelligent post. Someone that gets it. There are 2 types of people left in this industry. Those that are still looking for the cushy low performance low accountability ride they' be always had and are confused, disappointed and angry that the parameters have changed for them despite their lack of selling ability. And, second, those that pay attention, spend time in research of viable marketable products and have know their own abilities to deliver, regardless of the company. There was a time you chased companies: Merck, Pfizer, BMS... now if your a good rep, in the know, you chase products. I.E.- what is more viable as a growth product in the diabetes marketplace? DPP-4 or Sglt-2? If you don't know the answer then you are in the wrong industry. That's just the way it is. You gotta be ready to move to the next opportunity. Patent lives are shorter. MCO's reimbursement attention spans are shorter. Accelerated by ACA. You have to be nimble. Merck has no loyalty to you. Customers have no loyalty you. Why do you hang on to loyalty? Out of laziness? If you are sitting in some meeting listening to marketing drone on about " missed goals" then you are obviously in the wrong meeting. Again, it's just the way things are now, this from a veteran. Show up or go home. No more hiding, if you're serious, in large districts, clusters, corporations. You HAVE to HaVE a mercenary mindset if you want to survive. If not get out. Or wait passively for the next layoff. Don't discount CSO. The right opportunity, right product, right terms you can do well. Longevity and loyalty is above your pay grade. It's about YOU, not them.

Your typical merck idiot! No need to waste my time talking common sense to Someone who doesn't get it

You can't or refuse to answer the simple question. You only want to complain, be a victim, and pretend someone owes you something.

Perfect example of why you will always be an employee and never an employer.

Did any peeps give Riad the one finger salute yesterday?

You can dwell or sell. Today I told no less than 5 docs that if they didn't write asap I would be fired. Nothing wrong with a sympathy tactic. Biotech sales reps do this all day long and this meeting will light a fire under our as#! Get some scripts quick and at least you will have a case to be kept come Dec. Every man and woman for themselves at this point. If you are lucky enough to be connected make some phone calls and move to another Merck division pronto. You determine your fate unless you like waiting for that wait by the phone placement call.

Thanks for your input Marc. You can dwell or you can sell! I heard you say this at the bar. Pretty catchy I must say. How about a drug can sell or it can smell. Zontivity smells like a rotting corpse with lipstick.

No WARN period?

Think about what you just asked. They announced that there would be upcoming lay offs on October 8th and the actual lay-offs wiil be announced on December 7th. There are your 60 days. So in essence Merck did comply with the WARN act. They could've let you know your fate on the 7th and let you go on the 8th but was kind enough to give you till the 12th before severing employment.

And that's frickin' embarrassing. If you want to add to the stereotype that we're nothing more than used car salesman, then go ahead and sink to that level. You're a huge part of the problem. Would you want your dad on this drug? I got into pharma to talk about and sell the science, not to beg for prescriptions.

I also used to work for a company that knew how to launch and produce effective drugs. Not drugs that cause immense bleeding. You can whitewash it any way you want, but it still doesn't change the fact. 6-8 prescriptions after 3 months of promotion? I'd say we have a problem. So go be the beggar that you've become. You're a rookie and obviously don't know how it feels to have a real launch. And if this is you Marc, you suck. You'll blame us, but it's not us. Poor management direction, no vision, and pathetic resources to use.

There's plenty of things we could be using but the legal department puts the handcuffs on all of us.

Wow. That's real big of them
