Don't worry though, you will not be selling vaccines at Novartis any time soon. Quality vaccine experience will be hired from outside where we need it. I am currently selling Fluvirin & would not want losers like yourself coming over. I am actively recruiting other vaccine reps to come over. We will not succeed with pill reps selling vaccines.

Your whole statement lacks any knowledge of the vaccine business. " selling polio boosters" is really obvious. Every child gets the polio shot series, the full series, not just a booster shot. You are an idiot!

To the Novartis pharma idiots who think they are getting the jobs, please welcome Bill Darnell, your new senior executive sales director, who comes from over 20+ years at Merck Vaccines. I thought they were hiring from within? I hear Bill was the man at Merck and was only outed because the Merck pharma people took over and clashed with him. The good news for NV is that they have a leader who knows how to launch vaccines and treat people right and get the job done.

Agreed. I worked with Bill from 2000 to 2005 at Merck. He is a class act guy & helped launch Merck's vaccine division sales force in the mid 90s. It is a real coup for Novartis because he is all about the sale, not the politics. There will be many trying to come over from Merck with a lot of experience. We loved working with him!

I also worked with him for a while and happened over here due to a post on a Merck site. He comes up quite often in posts "discussing" Alina, Mike, & Margie. Those of you lucky enough to work with him- I envy you. MVD was a fun place to be and now is is just a job in a division run by tablet morons who are afraid of vaccine people like Bill. Too bad. Bill Darnell is the MAN! He is an amazing leader who is missed dearly at MVD. He isn't the only Merck person at Novartis. Everyone, let's welcome Jim Wassill, the new MENVEO US Brand Leader. Jim was hired directly from Merck Vaccines last September. He was on the PED (rotateq)team at Merck. It will be interesting to see how he performs. He got a few very questionable promotions almost back to back within 12 months during the pharma vaccine takeover. Word has it he was tight with Tom Netzer and the pharma rat pack crew. Tom Netzer was a well connected pharma vaccine marketing person who also just got an extremely questionable promotion as one of 4 pharma sales VPs. I don't think I need to tell all of you how politics work and how people in the club are taken care of. Hopefully Novartis HR did their homework and didn't just jump at Jim W. based on his inflated resume accomplishments. A monkey would have looked good launching Rotateq. Folks at MVD are still scratching their heads because he literally went from a brand manager (on a sole source product! Really how hard is that??) to associate director and then to director all in about a year before taking the big job at Novarti$. A source tells me that Novartis HR is overwhelmed with the amount of resumes they have got from Merck people for the sales manager jobs (over 200+ from Merck alone). One Merck PED manager as already been hired for March start and is not putting in his notice with Merck until February.

Most of what you say is accurate. However your number of 200 resumes for Manager from Merck are a bit large. There are only 250 reps total in the Ped group. Not all of them are trying to become a manager elsewhere.
Good for Jim since I know him a little from the Merck days and will be applying for some Novartis openings.
What title does Bill have at Novartis now, is it official?
 






The 200+ resumes from Merck is correct. This includes pharma managers, PED, OB, and PC Vaccine managers. There is also a number of resumes from HQ Merck people with prior sales experience and a large number of reps mainly PC and OB Vaccine reps who think they must stand a chance based on vaccine sales experience who have applied. Bill D. is one of three executive Director of Sales, in the NE region.
