Throwing in the white flag...tired of living a lie

Enough of this tuition reimbursement bullshit. Yes it's still around. A major problem is having a prick for a CTL who will ride your ass to prove you're taking time away from working to complete your MBA classes. This is common and I've had a good friend wind up getting PIP'd and let go. So much for tuition reimbursement fellas.

Very true. The old more generous critieria was you were doing good at your job to be able to pursue a degree before Merck would pay for it. Then it was changed to something about if we pay for it, you agree not to leave upon completion of the, say, MBA degree for one or two years. These days you have to be walking on water to prove to your manager that you can manage to attend graduate school and paid by Merck. Since your manager is very likely to be trying to protect his/her job, what is the chance he/she will go to the director and sell your case with the possibility sales take a dive and he/she get blamed for allowing a rep to go to school and not working the territory hard enough?

not everyone, but the people who were offered a package will be gone. In 1-2 months you should see some of your responsibilities move to other people/places.

What I meant was that everyone will be let go in 2012 instead of the end of 2011. As of January 1, 2012, the severance packages are decreasing. Hence, Mother will let people go under the reduced payout. Anything to screw the employee---that's the motto here at Merck.

I'm sure there will be a bunch let go in 2012, but decisions are made for those in 2011 already. Notices will go out the end of October. Two month WARN period will make the termination date end of 2011. You will still be an employee with two months to do nothing. Severence payout early 2012.

It's the whole package. I can understand how people think our job is worthless as most people feel that way with any kind of sales or rep (whatever you want to call me). I don't mind what you think. I do my best and at the end of the day, this is what I do, not who I am. I have a great relationship with customer because I have been with them for a while. There are a lot of signs stating we only talk to reps on XXXX days. The will let me go in when I please because the bond I have established with them. I enjoy what I do and for people to say it's not a career, I guess it their own opinion and I respect that. As stated before, the hardest thing to get around is the QA issues. Customer feel that should be the easiest part of the process. The hard part is R&D and getting the drugs through the phases. Will we hit a homerun every time, no. Generics don’t bother me because they will still go with brand as long as the patient has the proper insurance. If a patient is layed-off and needs to buy generics, the more power to them. I am at the end of my days here and it was a wonderful ride. I get to fish more and play with the grandkids. 

Just a word from a person who has seen it all. QA needs an overhaul because the negative press is a whole lot of damage control. I newer person who is less experienced will not be able to contain the damage. A lot easier to fix the QA standards.

I also don't need to throw in the white flag. It's was always just a job that I succeeded in because I liked doing it.

right on the money. So much of the business is about the relationship you have with customers. Other pharmaceutical reps view this, see how bad our QA is and use it again us. I had a customer question our charred particles of shrink wrap found in vials. How the hell do you defend that? QA is the biggest obstacle for making money.

Not being bitter, just stating facts.

2 months to continue to work or bring down the numbers for you and everyone you work with. Then lower SIP!

2011 --- who?
2012 --- who?

SP or Merck
Specialty or PC

With a layoff, rebadge may be an option but could be at the cost of making no money.

Mama might save on unemployment payout if you take a rebadge...

Take it and scrape by till a better deal comes along?
