You must have worked for/with my last manager Rob B. in the heartland. Guy couldn’t relate to his reps much less a doc. King of micromanagement.
I did not, but for what it is worth, not an ounce of me doubts that experience at this company.
I suspect this relatively recent shift in attitude from management is a result of the pressure from losing Humira, but regardless, good managers know what can be done and what is actually absurd; effectually, they act as supporters and filters.
The bad managers? They lack much talent/ intellect/ meaningful contributions such that they just do what they have to to survive, and that includes just going along with whatever muck gets pushed down the pipe. When that doesn't work, which it never does, they default to the crappy way they were treated from their own previous managers-- and that is treating subordinates like utter garbage. Case in point: this thread. There is no excuse for a DM to be on Cafepharma hurling childish insults at reps; sadly, from what I can tell, this isn't an outlier and there are multiples in just this thread.
It is a vicious cycle that can exist in any sales organization, but it does seem to be uncannily high in "Big Pharma." Even more so, it seems to be extraordinarily high at this company.
