The truth about working at AbbVie

Okay then- the credence clear water song "oh S....Q". Loving many helps with promotion depending on "performance" but begs the question which managers/ directors really fall into this trap at Abbvie- is this that pervasive?

Abbvie is big pharma like every other big pharma company. Tons of time wasting crap and people who look out for themselves. Not saying this is bad because the stock is good and the pay is ok but just expect that you will put up with BIG PHARMA in its full glory. This is also a huge deterrent in bringing is great people

The truth is AbbVie management will suck the life out of you. They will pay u enough to think twice about leaving but you will give away your happiness and soul. You will be put in a box given a script and slapped down hard if you ever even look outside your box

well said.

never worked for a company that was so top heavy in management

Unless you are elt, then no “good people” stay at AbbVie. If you think you are good people, you fall into a few categories.
  1. Long time Abbott/AbbVie and are ‘good’ as defined by criteria developed at Abbott decades ago that won’t fly at any other company. Lots of these people, they are in fact the problem and why AbbVie needs to buy innovation versus actually producing something out of the R&d labs.
  2. You think you are good and you are very early in your career so that the flaws of AbbVie management don’t really affect you.
  3. You are good but you stay for the financial stability. But you are miserable and you definitely don’t do your best work so you may have been good at some point but the longer you stay the worse you become.
  4. You think you are good but you aren’t. You need to look in the mirror and ask what achievement do you have that has really made any positive impact for patients. Also, know that most of your coworkers dislike you because of your false sense of self.

Nice Jack cheese

very few Directors and above give a shit about anyone below them. Guys like J Duffy are the exception but most care about their career and their career only. The will 100% throw you under a bus to make themselves look better to the person above them. Fact

Like most of these companies, a lot of whether or not this is a good job is going to come down to your individual manager and their ability to handle the crap rolling downhill from, ultimately, their VP.

In sales, if you get a real goofball like SB it isn't going to be a fun time. Definitely avoid anything that has legacy Forrest anywhere near it; they're dead-set on the challenger sales model that is a 110% turn-off for everyone. As for the rest of the company, I'm sure there are some OK areas.

Just do your due diligence and make sure the VP isn't a total psycho and that you jibe well with your DM.

Migraine is miserable. I have never been so unhappy and frustrated with a company. All of the bs busy work that our manager has us do is mind boggling. Even though I’m winning Sunmit, I absolutely despise this job, my manager and Abbvie. It is a toxic environment that is about over for me in 2 weeks when I go to another company. Get out of here; life is too damn short. I’m tired of feeling like a used car salesman with challenger etc

You won Summit!

Thanks for making the world so great with your efforts.

The truth is if you are a reasonably intelligent rep you will likely not be happy at AbbVie or any pharma company managed with the 1998 reach & frequency / fear & intimidation business approach. Less than 20% of managers are actually business savvy. The majority are babysitters because the 1998 faction believes reps are dumb and need constant monitoring and direction. If you spend most of your conversations with your manager and other managers (I can’t use the word leader or leadership-because that does not really exist here) pretending to be interested or going out of your way to make them feel like they are bringing you value-look at other industries. The self humiliation in much of this business is not worth the money.

This . Let’s throw in some challenger sales model for good measure..

susie B? She still around. I did enjoy her hitting on me but she’s the absolute devil. One of CR’s evil protégés. Nothing good can come from her
