To answer your first question, this answer is, NO it doesn't feel wrong. I do the best i can with the territory I have. There is no reason to work all day! You can't get in, so what do you do, just sit in the damn parking lot? Lying IS the norm now at AZ. It is the way we do business. We check boxes to survive. I don't particularly enjoy lying, but it is a necessity, and besides, I like going to an afternoon movie every now and then! Plan on going to one tomorrow…HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA1
Here is a tip that gives you options, regardless if you work 8 hours a day or participate in the all day lie. Downsize. Buy a smaller house, don't put yourself in a position that with a 100k salary you are still living paycheck to paycheck. Save. We do make a lot of coin here, but the danger is it will end someday. Don't be in a situation where you are screwed if the gravy train ends. If you want to crank it up a notch and rock it like I do, use the money we make to buy a few rental properties. My flexibility gives me the opportunity to manage the properties, check in on renters and even do some minor maintainance. We get laid off? Not sweating it any more.
it is no longer a question of if but when. This will be an industry wide reaction to the lack of access and the changing times due to drug formulary controls.
It will be a steady loss of full time employees and an ever increasing reliance on cheaper contract reps who can do the same job for half the money and no long term commitments, legal hassles or benefits.In a sense it is here already, but past cash cows have allowed drug companies to maintain beefy sales forces, although these have steadily been declining. AstraZeneca's is one of the few larger ones that remain. As more drugs fall over the patent cliff and the industry continues to tighten as you say, this will result in even smaller sales forces.
They way I see it is that if they are dumb enough to continue to pay all of us for so little value and to manage us with DMs and RDs who do even less for more pay, then why shouldn't we take advantage of it? We all know this won't last forever, but it is great while it does.

Yah. Let's see. Why would I feel guilty when the SPT is based on lies and the brand team refused to let us be honest no matter how hard we tried. Everyone knows Simon and IC data reporting are filled with lies. Reading the detail piece repeatedly with hi frequency to the same few people isn't going to happen ie: lies required. ....what else......oh heavens, how could we omit SPEAKER PROGRAMS. The most expensive lie. just paying off speakers to be hi prescribers.
I do what I can do, but do not ever think I should feel guilty. Managers who want more and more speaker programs. Managers who encourage their reps to spend access funds not only irresponsibly, but like thieves.
Really, guilty? No. not even close to the games that are absolutely required of reps thanks to insane brand team "strategies" and manager stupidity.
What I've been doing for years- stay home, but here's the twist. I have 15 or so high prescribers that have signed for samples, then I take a photo of the signature. That way when I stay home, I pull up that docs signature and trace it on my iPad! Brilliant. I have 3 other pod mates so no one knows what is coming in when or who signed for what!
As for as milage on my car, I just run to the beach a little more.

Believe me, the "all day lie" is doing very, very well at AZ! I wonder exactly what % of calls are lies, or would never meet AZ's definition of a call. Using me as an example, it has to be between 85% and 90%.
I have not had a single call this week that would likely meet the definition. Is this cheating? Sure it is, but I can damn well tell you that it is done with management's blessing! I know of a DM that has 6 reps! 6!! Do you think they will try and reduce their own headcount by catching someone lying? They would be cutting their own throat! How can you justify paying a DM's salary for "supervising" 6 reps?? AZ wastes more money than we can ever imagine.
I am now totally dependent on our new tradition, the ALL DAY LIE. I have tried to change, but I cannot. There is no way in hell I could work a full day. No way. It is now an addiction to our new tradition. I just can't stop working short days. I just can't. How can I get some help for this addiction? Help!!!!!!!
I can understand how you feel. I think the entire sales force is addicted to the ALL DAY LIE! It's the best thing I know to balance work and my need for golf!
