1% die. With over 320 million Americans in the USA, you can’t downplay the significance of up to 3.2 million deaths due to COVID.
Your math assumes every single person in the US contracts the virus and that is simply not the case. In most states the incidence of Covid infection is between 10 and 15% of people. The actual Covid (attributed ?) deaths is somewhere around 600k. If that number is correct then the Covid death rate in the US is 0.18% or 18 people per 100,000.
The actual number of deaths “caused” by Covid are unknown because hospitals began coding every death they could as Covid because their reimbursement was higher.
