PDT Layoffs Announcement

They are eliminating Taro, but combining Taro and Absorica reps. They keep jobs until March 31, but should know who is staying and going before then. Abhay said they are focusing on the three BUs for derm: Biologic, PDT, and Med Derm.

Yesterday the Taro board approved the discontinuation of promoting branded products. I presume that leaves Taro sales and marketing out, effective March 31.
So I wouldn’t say Taro and acne are being combined but that maybe they’ll pool all reps/territories from these two, decide what geographies still make sense and then make a determination on which rep stays. As for marketing, that’s a ?

This is only one persons guesstimate. But do not expect anything beyond one week per year severance.

I think this is part of a major restructuring of Sun's business in North America. Consolidate everything to reduce costs. We reps should fare better. I would expect marketing and sales across all groups will be impacted to a greater extent. For reps, it may be a good thing. They will probably be asked to sell more varied products.

Where is AG going and who is the replacement? Are they bringing Kal back to US? Or my guess is they will ask UB to head the new Sun North America?

Thoughts...

Just for the sanity of us lesser souls, if anyone knows more accurate details of what was said by AG, please share.

I guess we all have to start looking but if someone can share more details, it will help a bit.

Every rep will have to interview for their jobs. Dont believe your managers they dont know the inside truth. Huge layoffs coming and only 1 rep will sell all products. Due to reduce chance of lawsuits everyone had to interview and so do managers. This will all be announced soon.

That helps. Since you have a little more info than many of us, any estimates on how soon the restructuring will be announced across the companies (at least to all the divisions who will be impacted at all the Sun and all it subsidiaries)

So I (PDT) haven't received any official mail or the like yet. From an economic point of view a restructuring or a reduction of the team size makes sense. But I don't think the PDT team will be too big to cut jobs. I see this as an opportunity to focus and strengthen. However, I would see a connection with other units as very critical. That wouldn't work at PDT and I can't imagine that they would make that mistake.

Opportunity sure. Shorter leash definitely. Probably the PDT quotas will get bigger, prices higher, in-office spending lowered, direct pressure substantially higher. If you can handle the heat, you are a winner. If not, good luck.

Absolutely right. That is overdue when I look at some of my colleagues. What we also have to bear in mind is that we are no longer alone on the market and Biofrontera is becoming increasingly stronger. Before that, as a monopolist, you were lazy about such issues. The competitor now has to put the processes to the test.

Does anyone know where AG is going and who will be replacing him? Are they finally working on getting a US-based executive to take up the responsibilities or bringing some from India?

You are kidding right? The replacement will most likely be another Dilip cousin. Probably someone who does not have electricity back home, but will be selling a light device in the USA. Just to get another perspective.

I am a rep on the Acne team. The one who stated that Sun is discontinuing the promotion of Taro is correct. They are realigning territories for “med derm” and those reps will carry the few steroids and Absorica. Managers interview next week in NJ, and they will evaluate Taro and current Acne reps to choose who will be moved to the Med Derm team. To mine and my manager’s understanding, the reps are not interviewing. They mentioned on the call having three business units: PDT, Biologic, Med Derm. They did not mention AG leaving or any other teams restructuring. Not that I don’t believe it is a possibility. I just wanted to get the truth of what we know from our call out here.

This is so useful. We never know truth from fiction. Even I was skeptical of AG leaving. But maybe it is high time for them to consolidate different operations into one. Does anyone know what is going to happen to Taro as an independent company. They can not reduce costs unless they combine it under the sun umbrella.

So if steroids are coming back, that got me thinking:

Sun bought Ranbaxy in 2015 and we had the red and blue teams (acne and steroids). Then, in 2017 the steroids go to over to Taro. Then, in 2019 they’re coming back to Sun.
Now that gives me a lot of confidence that we know what we’re doing. Yeah, we must have a good plan. Somewhere.

You’re obviously not working or in any of your accounts if you really believe this. They will be lucky to survive this year.

This thing is such a mess. Wonder what next week is going to bring.

Just sell Absorica and you will do fine. View the topical steroids as the "special of the day". Whenever the dopes in production can get an approvable batch made, you are Ok to sell what is available. Topical steroids as featured brands for Taro was a Band-Aid at best. Time for a little redemption.

100% true. Confirmed today.

Reps are interviewing, and then just placed. I love how you morons think you are safe. 1/2 the reps are going or getting transferred if possible
