October Launch Meetings and the Delta Variant

Amen to that! He also told his staff a few years ago the he quit drinking because the alcohol interfered with his receiving prophesy from the holy spirit.

Let's talk about his prophetic skill. Pete is a preacher at a "church" in DC that meets weekly at the Ritz Carlton...no really...I'm not making that up! In March of 2020 he told the congregation there that he had received a prophesy from the holy spirit that the pandemic would peek in April of 2020. A couple of weeks later he told the congregation that he had proof that the prophesy was accurate because Donald Trump held a press conference in the rose garden saying that the pandemic would peak in April. I'm thinking that the hundreds of thousands of COVID victims who died in the United States since April of 2020 might take exception to Pete's pipeline to the almighty.

This guy is ten pounds of crazy in a five pound bag!

Honestly, you sound like some kind of anti-religious jerk who is making this stuff up. How do you know what he said to his congregation? Did you attend services at his church?

No...I'm not anti-religious, and no didn't attend these services. I didn't have to, because it was all posted on-line. Here is the link to the Facebook page for Kingdom Life Ministries of DC. https://www.facebook.com/klmdc/

Once you get to the homepage click the link for "videos" and the scroll through. There are a large number of videos available there. Pete is not the only preacher but in many of these videos Pete preaches his unique, bigoted, and wacky take on the scriptures. I'd look quickly however, because I'm guessing the church will take down many if not all of the videos once they are aware of this post. Already a few of the more bizarre videos have been excised, but luckily I have preserved them on a thumb drive. So, lets summarize some of the highlights you'd discover in these videos:

  • During the lockdown Pete actually used his Alkermes office in DC for some of these broadcasts. He hosted other members of his "church" in a panel discussion in the Alkermes DC conference room. Do you think Richard Pops knew about and approved this?
  • He routinely rails against what he calls the "LGBTQ Agenda" and against abortion rights. How does that square with our corporate policy on these issues?
  • Just in case your couldn't figure it out via a simple Google search, Pete often identifies himself as an Alkermes senior manager.
  • Pete has stated his view that addiction is not really a medical problem but it is a result of conflict between the demonic and angelic forces on Earth. That doesn't leave much room for Vivitrol...does it?
  • He purports to "see Angels" at the Ritz Carlton while he is preaching, and has told the congregation that there are more angels present at the service than there are people.
  • He routinely characterizes members of the Biden administration as socialist. No matter what you may think of the Biden administration how can Pete Norman (as Senior Vice President for Government Affairs) think this will help Alkermes build good relations with the federal government? Its bad enough to say these things in public, but worse to have them posted online where all the world can see.
  • He spoke with pride about his past conflicts with Kamala Harris!
  • In a service at a private home Pete purported to heal someone from a dental infection, and when he was off camera he could be heard speaking in tongues!
Ok this is America, and anyone can believe any wacky crap that they want to. Once you identify yourself by your profession and affiliation with Alkermes, and then post that on the internet I really think he has crossed the line. How is it that this guy stays employed?

I had some hope for this place when I read that Elliot Advisors from London was going to take seats on the board, and whip the company into shape. I had even more hope when I read about Alex Denner from Sarissa Capital Management taking a seat on the board. But if these guys can't fix a problem as obvious as this, maybe my faith was misplaced.

They are here to fix earning and drive shareholder value via board seats and stock is up almost 100% vs same time last year, your faith is not misplaced.

OK...so here is my question to Richard Pops. Did you know about and approve of Pete Norman using the Alkermes DC offices to record internet broadcasts for his church? Was it OK with you that Pete used company resources to rant against a woman's reproductive rights and against what he called the "LGBTQ agenda"? OK Rich...maybe you don't know before...but you certainly know now. What are you going to do about it?

I have a bigger question. What is Alex Denner, and the other activist members of the board going to do? If you ever want to make this place profitable how can you have this kind of poor judgement and detachment from reality operating with the title "Senior Vice President"?

I need to correct you on one thing...Pete's "church" no longer meets at the Ritz Carlton. Now they meet at a Holiday Inn in Arlington. Really....I looked it up. If this kind of downward progression continues the next stop will be a Motel 6 next to the truck stop!

From what you describe he sounds like a pretty squared up guy with legit viewpoints? Are you bagging on him because they don't match yours?

Gee, I dunno what the problem cockle be? Can we start with questionable use of company resources/facilities, interjecting personal religious beliefs in what’s supposed to be an agnostic work environment, etc.?

Bingo! And one more thing, if you go to the website for Kingdom Life Ministries and read their various tenants, you will see a whole section about "work is worship" talking about the obligation of church members to lead a "seamless life" where they use the workplace to advance the kingdom of God. Very recently Pete used the phrase "legislate the kingdom of God into existence". This certainly doesn't create a very friendly workplace for anyone who does not agree with Pete's right wing fundamentalist take on life.

Pete had a former staff member who studied for the Catholic priesthood, but never went through with ordination. This former staff person opined that the story of Noah and the Arc was meant to be a metaphor, and should not be taken literally. Pete pulled him aside and chastised him saying that he was offended by the staffer's comments, because every word of the bible must be taken literally.

You can also find photos and video clips of Pete at the US Capitol Building holding "work as worship" prayer meetings. Of course everyone there knows he is a senior VP for Alkermes. While it may endear him to some congressional staffers who share his views, I'm guessing it causes many more who have different or no religious convictions to view him as an extremist...which in fact he is.

All of this works against our building working relationships with both sides of the aisle and particularly with the Biden administration.

Maybe Pete's wildly inappropriate behavior would be tolerable if he was some kind of Government Affairs rock star who delivered great results for the company. Nothing could be further from the truth. Some of his staff do great things at the state level, but you certainly can't say the same for the federal government, which is where Pete and the DC staff are supposed to focus.

You may remember the SAMSHA grants called SOR Grants (State Opioid Response Grants). Pete and his DC staff were a driving force behind handing millions of dollars to the states to expand the use of medication assisted treatment for opiate addiction. The problem was that the money went to the states with very few strings attached, which meant that the vast majority of the funding was used to expand buprenorphine treatment, leaving Vivitrol more marginalized and with a smaller market share than before the SOR money was handed out.

After that debacle Pete was promoted from Vice President to Senior Vice President. This lends new meaning to "The Peter Principle"!

True that! Pete and his DC minions have done more to increase buprenorphine sales than all the bup manufacturers combined!

Okay, I have to talk about one more of Pete's predictions. About a month or so before the 2020 presidential election he told some staff that he didn't know why they were bothering to hold an election, because he knew that Donald Trump would win in a landslide. My question is, was this another miscommunicated prophesy from the holy spirit, or just an example of Pete's finely honed political acumen?

No, it was never the Ritz Carlton it was the St. Regis. You are correct however that it is now the Holiday Inn in Arlington. I wonder if he gets points under the Holiday Inn loyalty program?

You clearly don't understand. In Pete's world Donald Trump DID win the election! Stop the Steal Baby!!!

This is what comes from believing what you see on Fox News. Fox News...the more you watch, the less you know!
