Novartis paid $100K to Trump's Attorney Michael Cohen

“Also included in these suspicious financial transactions are four payments in late 2017 and early 2018 totaling $399,920 made by global pharmaceutical giant Novartis directly to Essential in four separate transactions of $99,980 each (just below $100,000).

“Following these payments, reports surfaced that Mr. Trump took a dinner meeting with the incoming CEO of Novartis before Mr. Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in late January 2018.”

Avenatti included a link to a FiercePharma story on the group of pharma executives meeting with Trump for dinner in Davos.

Vas Narasimhan may have been still the incoming CEO at Novartis at that point in January, but he had directed the development effort at the pharma giant for several years and had been tapped for the CEO’s job months before his meeting with Trump. He took the CEO job at the beginning of February as CEO Joe Jimenez stepped down.

Novartis and the pharma industry in general have been stepping up their presence in Washington DC, intensifying lobbying efforts as Trump and his top officials in healthcare focus on a pledge to dramatically lower drug prices in the US. Trump is expected to give a speech on that very topic this Friday.

Not fake - very real - so real that Novartis issued a press release in which they blame the prior CEO

This is DISGUSTING !

As a former executive of Novartis - during the times of James Shannon and Dan Vasella - I was overcome with nausea at the thought of an "ethical" Pharma Company who cares for patients will be part of the Trump's Swamp.

What happened to Ethics ?

Or is this a return to the times when the Swiss conspired with the Nazis to lute my Jewsish friends and family ?

He did fire Preet Bharara who I think you are referring to. Remember reading that Preet B knows the dirt on Trump and has been questioned by special counsel. Hope they bring this who family and his fellow mobsters down! What an unethical company!
 




So, the Novartis spokesperson says that "any agreements with Essential Consultants were entered before our current CEO taking office in February of this year and have expired." Still, someone must have approved the contribution to Essential Consultants and the use of Novartis Investments S.a.r.l. in Luxembourg as the conduit. Did the Novartis AG Board of Directors know about this contribution? Felix Ehrat was the Group General Counsel of Novartis then and still is. Did he know? Shannon Klinger was the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer then and still is. Did she know?
 




the appearance of this is so dirty. Pay to play mentality. We need answers. Most of us do our jobs with the highest regard to compliance and integrity to never bring shame or questionable behavior to Novartis. I'm so disappointed.
 








A Novartis spokesperson just released a new statement. "While Novartis does not confirm or deny that an executive has or may sleep with a porn star in the future we thought the odds of such an event to be high enough that it only made sense to have an expert in hush money payments on retainer. In no way did Novartis intend for the money paid to Michael Cohen to influence the President in any way. The money is solely for the purposes of paying porn stars for their silence"
