Nov 9 - Beginning of the End

How accurate is the 350-380 figure? Will advocacy reps be added back in to the count?

Will be closer to the 380 and yes advocacy will be added by into sales force. At least those who don't go to Supernus. While I can't speculate on how many more will leave, expect 20+ to leave in the next 7-10 days.

What are you suggesting that I am naive about? My post was in regards to layoffs and layoffs only, right? I don't disagree that the BU is going through a difficult time, that will be difficult to overcome especially with the talent that has left the company. My Idea that Shire will overcome this, makes me naive or a Kool-Aid Drinker, right? Ok, ill take that.

But again, my post in regards to LAYOFFS shouldn't lead you to be believe that I am naive. It just means I know more than you do regarding layoffs, where they'll be, and more importantly where they WON'T be.

Where WON'T there be layoffs? Will any Region or zone go untouched?

It's funny, tonight when I was driving home from my last call, the Dave Matthews Band song called "Don't drink the water" came on. If you listen to the words of that song, ironically they are pretty fitting for what is supposedly about to happen. Maybe they can play it as the hold music for our imminent calls that are coming? The lyrics seem incredibly fitting for this situation.
For years I have heard others talk about CP, and I always ignored their banter simply because I didn't want to get caught up in the he said/she said game which from previous threads is the case on here. Posts on here remind me of Jr. High School all over again; it's kind of pathetic how bullys never grow up. So I came on here and started investigating to see what had been written here and what has actually occurred since the post appeared. I have to say, people who claim that their sources told them this or that however in most cases hold about as much credibility as my most recent bowel movement.
I've been with the company for some time and think it's pretty sad that because people can sit behind a screen and trash talk each other or post "credible information from sources" yet lack any adequate substance of proof in regards to what you're writing. The layoffs, whenever they’re going to happen aren’t a comical event. These are people's lives that are being affected. For those that don't have a spouse, or kids, or any basic responsibilities outside of your offices you supposedly call on but probably don't and for that matter brag about "banging your IRD" epitomize the stereo-typical vision for many sales people in our industry. You wouldn't understand how much of an impact this truly can/will affect your colleagues/"friends" lives. One day though, when you grow up and realize that College ended years ago or that people's perceptions of your lack of integrity will eventually catch up with you as will Karma. Call Snooki and see how she feels about your problems.
I had the honor and privilege at the time I came into this company as well as complete confidence that this was a place which come hell or high water would always protect its people. Then changes started to occur which if you would've told me were coming I would have never believed you.
IF whatever happens does in fact come to fruition, then I hope the pitch at one of the first national meetings I ever went to in which we were told that the sales force is the "life-blood" of this company resonates loudly with whatever compensation is decided. It's easy to sit here behind a computer screen and complain about "____" but the fact of the matter is whatever does happen is completely out of our hands. The "cool-aid" which has been accurately depicted on threads is what seems to be the reality currently with many individuals as well as areas like morale and pride too. The notion of our "Brave" culture we were told about and that we need to apply to our daily lives is a joke. I used to feel like asking questions at meetings was a welcomed and encouraged activity, however lately at meetings when it comes to Q & A it's usually corporate filler questions regarding current things already happening and people's noses only becoming browner. Also, maybe someone needs to look up what Open Communication truly means because evidently whoever has decided to do what's happening clearly needs to be re-evaluated in my opinion and clearly didn't turn in their surveys.
Someone also had posted that the past few months have been tough times for the company; if you want to write me a check for $1.1 Billion for three months of work, I'll be more than happy to tell you that the last few months and near future will be "bumpy" too. Give me a break; are you gullible or just plain stupid? I've protected Shire, defended Shire and devoted my life to the success of the company and for potentially what? Someone to tell me ON THE PHONE via a conference call from their perch or tower they sit on I'm not doing enough compared to a completely unequal comparative national average based on a computer program's interpretation?! This is why there needs to be a Union for this industry for situations like the one which is about to happen. Think about it.....

Where WON'T there be layoffs? Will any Region or zone go untouched?

Its hard to answer this question because the regions and zones as they are right now will look completely different in a few weeks. Basically the company gives the computer a # of 350-380 reps and the computer spits out territories based on the parameters the company sets: call average, managed care, market share, market share growth, etc.

So the answer to your question is kind of no and yes because there are parts of the country that will get harder than others based on these facts. However, don't think your safe in a metro area with high marketshare because if the company think they can do it with 4 reps instead of 5 or 3 reps instead of 4 they will do it. So it will just be a wait and see mentality. I am just as on the edge of my seat as the rest of you but all will be done in a few weeks.

This is all true what has been said on this thread. Those that went over to Regen Medicine really had no choice and it had a dual purpose: 1) to make room for less layoffs and combine regions where there really didn't need them for the future and 2) build the business of Regen Medicine. Shire is pouring some serious cash into that business which is close to $1 billion dollars by the end of the year.

#29=False
Those that went over to regen med had every choice. Do you think that if they didnt have a choice that they would have gotten the $ increases that they did? reps start at over 100K-salary over there and their new "crappy" bonus plan is still probably double what ours is at plan... Just ask the few reps that were lucky enough to move over. Our reps that went to Supernot would have been much better to go to Regen= but they probably woundnt have taken them.

It does look like they are trying to build the regen side- if thats they case, why force people to go there? (they had no choice??) Do you think that you have to force anyone to make more $ and to move from phrma to device? your logic doesnt add up.

The RDs who went over had no choice and they were not given raises. This BU is m ore of a kess than ours right now.

No one else is going to Supernus, this post is false. What else is mere speculation passed off as fact? I love how so many accept anonymous posts as fact. Some of you cling to this stuff like scripture. Sad and a little funny.

So you're suggesting that reps haven't already gotten phone calls from recruiters from Supernus, regarding sales positions? Wow, that's interesting. Good luck with that.

I am not suggesting it, i am telling you. No rep from Shire will be a rep at Supernus. Move on with your re-org fear mongering, it is amusing, like US magazine

So if there is an area that there are 5 reps and only 4 territories, how will they determine who stays and who goes?

Also...let's say there is an Advocacy Rep already close to you....does that mean one stays & one goes? Or will we continue to work desperately under different RD's. How many reps per RD are we looking at roughly?

The RDs will find out their regions next week but not necessarily what reps they have. Everybody gets the salesforce structure on the 9th and on Friday November 30 you will get your new territory information or a displacement package.

Will the RD have a say on what reps they keep? It seems strange that the they will know what their region will look like, but not know which reps? If the rep needs to live in the territory, wouldn't a region map tell you which reps are going where? Assuming you don't have a rep in a territory that is on a PIP. Or are their other objectives being looked at?

Old shire had tough times but got through them because they believed in sales people!!!
The new (lack of) leadership is not even putting focus on how important back to school is for the rest of the year. They are content to ride the gravy train instead of growing market share which is why they so willing to cut us now bc they don't value us. Maybe the new CEO will bring new leadership too!!!!
