Many of you have requested I post some tips on how I do what I do. First of all remember, this job isn't really about what you do. It's all about what your manager THINKS you do. You want to live the 15x15 life? Then you first need to understand this simple rule.
Let me start with a couple tips that will help you begin to take the first step.
Check VM & email early and late. Leave some messages and respond to manager too. Remember, everything we do on the computer or phone is time stamped. Leaving or responding to messages before or after "normal work hours" shows them that you are "engaged" with your job and going the extra mile. Remember, you can leave a VM at 6:30 am just before you tee off. Your CTL doesn't know where you are, just that you are up and "engaged" with your job already at 6:30 am. Also, anytime you can respond back quickly to a request by your CTL, it looks good. It doesn't matter if you are working at that time or on the beach or the golf course.
Throw a bone to the S3 and engage them as well. Reason? Who is the first person in the district that the manager is going to go to if they suspect you aren't doing your job? It will be the S3. They are the "brown nosers" that were handpicked by the CTL and DCO. If the S3 believes you are doing your job and tells that to the CTL, you are fine.
These two things don't take much time at all and will help you build credibility and trust with your manager. If you have that, then you have taken the biggest step towards living the 15x15 life style and all the benefits that come with it.
Remember, it's all about creating the illusion of being that hard working rep. You must begin with this first before you can reap the rewards later. Then later you can actually be out of your territory and on vacation for a week without even using a vacation day! I should know, I've done this more than a couple times, totally out of state! Now that's rewarding! Much better than any NMIP points that I've ever received for sure!
You also need to fully understand that Merck does not give a damn about you. To them, you are just a number on a spreadsheet attached to a dollar amount. You are just the cost of them doing business, nothing more, nothing less. They can, they have, and they will continue to save money by reducing head count. Their tactics are vile, deceitful and dishonest on their part and will continue in an effort to save Mother big $$$ by getting targeted reps to leave on their own accord. If you aren't "all in" on this belief, you may get eaten up by the guilt of doing what I do. You really must be "FU Merck" mode 24/7/365. Are you up for this?

D15x15 I understand your story. I Agree with everything you do. What are you going to do when you do need to get a new job? It's going to happen, are you going to be able to turn it on and actually be productive? I'm guessing NO. They broke you and eventually you ARE fucked. I've been there still trying to recover.

Thanks for your concern but don't worry about me. You need to worry about yourself and your family. If anything ever happens, I will be just fine. The problem in today's business environment is that people make the mistake that their company really cares for their well being. Let me clue you in, they don't. Year's ago maybe, but not today.
Look out for yourself first and foremost. Anymore I don't give a damn about Merck. I am out to get as much as I can from them as long as I can with the least amount of effort on my part. If it all goes to hell in a hand basket then I won't second guess myself and wish I would have worked more. If I keep this going then I'm getting paid a lot of money for very little effort. As long as my idiot DCO remains, I think I will be fine.
This company lost it's moral path over a decade ago. They don't give a damn so why should I or you.

You may have heard through the grapevine that three reps have been arrested and charged with felonies for stealing company funds. Don't get too smug,I will catch many more and it just maybe you. Everyone out there in Merckland,sent names of suspected violators to either the ombudsman or HR for investigation and prosecution.As a little birdy has told me recently, a bounty program is going into effect shortly to encourage the actions against criminal elements in our midst.
Love the comment about "criminal elements" when the biggest criminal element exists within the executive team. That is a great laugh. What reps may or may not do pales in comparison to research and marketing shenanigans that have been brought to light and paid for, I would add. Definitely bring anything you have to report to the ombudsman. lol

Merck's First and Finest S15 Rep
OK I admit it. I don't get it. I haven't spent much time anxiously following this thread like most of you. I've been busy with a little thing called life. So what is this guy's (15'er) beef with merck. He doesn't like getting paid? Company car not big enough? Cut back on the free lunch budget? Meeting's are not in a nice enough place? Doesn't like the layoffs,threat of layoffs and more challenging buisness enviornment? Well get used to it.
He's trying to turn the fact that he doesn't work into some kinda protest? I'll bet he's got a Guy Fawkes mask somewere. Well trying to get away with working part time for full time pay and trying to justify is is nothing new in this buisness. That's what make's it so hard to identify, about half the salesforce and management are doing the same thing so it's not really unique is it? Those that cheer him on from the sidelines remind me of a crowd gathered on a street corner for a man on a ledge yelling "jump!jump!" You think they'll be there when it comes time for those payments on "food clothing and shelter" payments?
Don't work if you don't want to. Brag about getting away with it if you like. But don't come on here and try to pass your inactivity as some protest against the work enviornment at merck. spare me. your like one of those "faux" occupy protesters.
