More Layoffs

Roche hasn't had a sucessful drur launch in 15 years. End of story.

Really, well youre wrong! Here are a few:

- Boniva
- Tamifluu
- Pegasys
- Cellcept
- Xeloda

All of the above are highly successful drugs. By the way, dont forget that Roche has owned Genentech for almost 25 years; owning anywhere from 51% to 100% of gShares. Although genentech operated independently, all of there drugs were developd with ROCHE money.

What a string of losers,,,,,,,but actemera has got to be the worst of all......Flat out depressing how hard these roche jerks are pushing on a string.

Don't kid yourself. Roche is smart. They paid very little in 1990 to gain a foothold with Genentech. They paid a lot in 2009 for the rest. However, Roche may not exist today without the success of Genentech and their products. Look at the percentage of Roche sales in 2008 and which products made up the majority of those dollars. Roche did get by investing and then staying out of the way. Now that they are running the show, it will be a failure.
And for the prior post on products, the Breast indication was gained under the Genentech watch and lost under Roche. hGH is a commodity but Nutropin was #1 in MS until Roche came in (really it was kent leigenger that screwed the pooch).

Wow have some compassion for those about to lose their jobs. Word is that the department has been restructured to a more efficient number of Managed Care positions. Can I handle most of the Reimbursement issues? Yes used to all the time, but mgmt took it away from us, and created new roles. Just when access is our most important concern we add more people to visit our customers. Point is dont want to see anyone lose their jobs. Keep hiring people to bring in new ideas and this is the kind of situation we get ourselves in,Old ideas wrapped in a new package! Why doesnt Roche offer early retirement to those who are close or at retirement age? Wouldnt that make sense?

What is going on with this company. Just had a phone interview a week ago. Now they are laying off?

- Boniva
- Tamifluu
- Pegasys
- Cellcept
- Xeloda

These are all very success products, that were either Billion $ plus annually, or best in class. For example, pegasys has more than 80% of the market. Cellcept was the clear leader; Tamiflu has 98099% of the market, and boniva does in excell of one billion worldwide/year.

KNOW YOUR FACTS!

Rae you telling us that you actually "listen" to gossip on cafe pharma. Somewhere in a company with 17,000+ employees, it is speculated that 50 people got layed off. This is not major, nor is it news. Prior to roche treating the company like a real business, genentech acted like some sort of academic instition. They thought they were UC Berkely or Standford, collecting all kinds of people with prestigious MBAs, that actually did little. For example, there were over 100 people in the training dept, where as legacy roche probably had less than 25. Managed care marketing, at tgenentech, has 45 people at one point in time; legacy roche had 4. You see, genentech was and still is a very bloated institution in SSF. There is still lots more fat to trim in the home office.

Roche legacy did not need 4 people in training. They had no products that needed any training after being on the market so long. Genentech had NEW products and let Roche ex US sell them overseas.

Roche was once a very well respected company. NO more so as evidenced by then dumping their own name here in the US.

OK, here we go again, here are just five of the very successful drugs that Roche had. Please, lets leave emotions out of it and just speak facts:

- Pegasys - 80%+ market share. Used in virtually EVERY HCV study
- Tamiflu - 99% market share, 1billion+ worldwide
- Cellcept - The clear market leader
- Xeloda - Blockbuster
- Boniva - two billion plus world wide.

Please remember that Roche owned between 51% and 100% of genentech stock for more than 25 years. Genentech did not GIVE Roche anything. In order to survive early on, they need a huge investment from Roche, and part of that investment was the rights all drugs that genentch developed, in the European market. Dont you get it, Genentech would have stopped at Nutropin, if Roche did not take ownershio, and let it continue as an independent operation. Yes, that right, the only drug that genentech developed without that largess and backing from Roche is Nutropin.

These are facts, that simple research will verify.

Also, changing the name had nothing to do with "NOT HAVING PRODUCTS". My message above is evidence that your comment is plain rediculous. Roche generated many billions in profits annually, and had great products, and a strong pipeline. In fact many of Genentech best pipeline products are legacy roche.

The name change to Genentech was strictly a branding issue, and nothing more. The fact is that these duiscussions are becoming very boring. You are now a ROCHE employee, and have been for 3+ years. If you dont like it, then quit.

Come on, please stop the nonsense.

- First all Roche did not get a "FOOTHOLD" with Genentech in 1990, the bought the company (100% of the stock), and ran it as an independent operation.

- Yes, due to the growth of the stock price, roche sold about half the stock, along the way, and repurchased in 2009. They maintained majority ownership throghout.

- Yes, "Genentech" drugs made up a significant portion of 2008 Roche profits. So what! Roche owned Genentech, and they were entitled to the drugs.

- Roche, with or without Genentech, had many billions of dollars in profits, and would have been a top 10-15 drug company anyway, thats just a fact.

- You assert that Roche wouldnt exist without Genentech; your logic is faulty. The opposite is likely true thogh. Without the billions in investments to genentech, there likely would have not been the money for R&D, and Avastin etc would not even exist. There is a reason that Genentech accepted the investment, THEY NEEDED THE MONEY.

- Clearly you do realize that ROCHEUSA (genentech) is not led by legacy roche people. In addition, you can not be serious about blaming "legacy roche" for the fact that Avastin simply does not work in breast cancer? Also, are you seriosly blaming "legacy Roche" for the fact that HGH is a commodity product, with multiple competitiors in its class?

Come, stop the childish nonsense please! This is almost 4 years since the acquisition of the outstanding genetech shares, yet you are still bitter? The glory days of the old startup genetech were long gone, before the acquisition. With 10,000 plus employees, genentech has been nothing but a bloated big pharma company, for years.

The good old days are over, get over it or get out.
