Mike Small - HCV NSD

I'm not one to post in this forum, but enough is enough. I've worked with MS in the home office - there is not a sharper and more qualified NSM representing a Brand in the GNE portfolio or elsewhere. You have no idea how he champions YOU in the field. The result in market share growth while managing the bottom line profit speaks for itself. Really, this kind of success for a biologic is unprecedented - a text book case.

Obviously this is a joke post. First of all, pegasys is NOT A BIOLOGIC. Someone saying "I love my reps", does not make them a great leader. A leader and champion are two different things. All, Im saying is that MS' intelligence is average at best. I gave examples, i a very long post previous;y, and they are first hand. They are but a few examples, and no one refutes them. If he is so bright, how did he agree to such a horrible IC plan for 2009? How could he be shown projections that someone with a 30% share could go to presidents club by moving to 40% (30-35 points below the nations avg). The fact is that he had very limited RSD experience before he was "Gifted" an NSD job, just for being at the right place, at the right time. His most prominent experience as an RSD was for two years in Mircera, WITH NO PRODUCT.

Please lets not confuse being "A Nice Guy", with being a "Qualified LEader". I can also tell you for a fact, that he is scared crapless of Tom Klein.
 






Who isn't scared of Tom Klein? If you're not you should be. With a few swipes of a pen, he nixed a couple in HCV Marketing, then Al, then all of HIV, and then part of HCV. Tom is not afraid to fire anyone.

From a financial perspective the brand has underperformed for several years in a row, including this year. MArket share was increasing before MS took over, and really took of after the failed IDEAL study, and the subsequent implosion of the PegIntron sales team. The bottomline is that you cant take market share to the bank, and Pegasys has been way under forecast for at least the last three years running? Do you know that mike has no RSD experience actually selling a launched product? Do you know that he is the one of the few NSDs without an MBA? Do you know that he is the only person above RSD in HCV without an MBA? Look at post #11, how do you justify the FACTS in that post? How do you justify missing goal multiple years in a row? Again, Im not saying that he is not a NICE guy; but a great executive, that does not make. If you want to throw back a few beers, check out the honies walking by, smoke cigars, and talk sports; hey MS is the best around. He really is a nice guy to hang out with.

Enough of this "he's a nice guy". Who gives a crap if he's nice. He was only given the position because of micera failure to launch. He is not up to par. He only cares about himself. He has created a management mess out of HCV. Look at the RSD's and managers. It is all about them. The reps are doing all of the work and they won't stop the pressure. You're going to work harder because your manager is a jerk. Right? In your dreams. We all know that MS and the managers only care about themselves.

OH, but lets pay you for what someone else did. If you were so great by yourself, getting that high market share, why the hell can't you grow your base. You are the looser. Go work for Three Rivers and you will have lots of market share potential to show how great a rep you are. These are the bottom market shares TODAY. I hope you with a great 90% market shares gets their prison or VA contract kicked out from underneath you and maybe then you can have a 30% market share and win Presidents Cup next year.

The fact is that the plan was horrible, and MS' acknowledged such after the fact, but denied knowing anything about it. Again, he lied, as he was in each and every meeting and pushed for the situation. Trust me, those that continue to bottom dwell below the national average will be fired one by one. The heat is on.

Before you continue your player hating I suggest the following:

- Find out which territories are 85%+ MS;
- Find out who the reps are, and how long them have been in the territory;
- Find out what their market shares were when they started;
- Find out what %age of their business comes from "VAs" or "prisons";
- Find out what %age of their business is retail.
- Speak to this successful reps, may you might learn something.

You seem to be a very bright woman, and I am sure that you dont really mean to say things that are not factual, and make no sense. You have access to all of the data, that is required to answer the questions above.

I ASSURE YOU THAT YOU WILL BE VERY SURPRSIED AT WHAT YOU FIND OUT. You will see clearly that most have been around for 5+ years, NONE started with market share within 40 points of where they are now, and few if any are seriously impacted by a "VA" or Prison.

Please just do your homework before you rant. I know that you will come back with more rants and insults, but please spare us all. Come back with real facts, to back up your claims. Otherwise, dont bother!

Grow "my" base, whats that got to do with anything. In 2009 we were measured on market share and share change, my "base" had no impact; it only would had there been a volume change component. So, that part of your statement makes no sense at all. Why would someone have to work for "3 rivers" when they are quite successful where they are? Too sell a legacy product at a bad company?

This thread is about MS, not successful reps. So just take two Midol, and pipedown!

A leader knows his entire team, communicates with them on a regular basis, is not more focused on Phillies and Dolphins at national meeting, hires talented people, not just his cronnies and knows what is going on with data or has someone in place that does. However, not all is his fault, TK chased some very talented people off that knew their jobs, stayed on top of issues and were transparent. When he knocks out Geddes, Wilson, Maffei and Makla the data issues went wild. Like her or not, CG would not have ever said she was not aware of data problems.

Agreed, but one correction, TK didnt run any of the above folks away. Cathy was traveling 3 hours each way to work, and got a great job minutes from her home. Maffei grew tired of HCV (which can happen to any of us in any dept) and took a job with oncology, Makla could have kept his BM job, but refused to move to new jersey. The fact is, besides Cathy, all of these people were way to far removed for Tom K. to care about either of them.

Your bringing of Cathy G. is interesting though because of the contract with MS. Cathy was sharp, sharp, sharp. She knew her business inside and out, analytics and all.
 












Once again I must ask, how do we have a sportscaster running a national franchise at genentech

true! No Marketing, No Managed Care, No Contracts, No Buisness Manager or Analytics, No MBA. Just Rep, DM, RSD for franchise with no product, then National Sales Director. The people who report to him are for more qualified than the boss.
 






Guess we need not worry about MS qualifications any longer. How was he going to say he didn't know about the data issues. Oh, by the way, so much for putting patients first, your tactic now is to get any of your Peg-Intron prescribers to hold their patients. That will grow your market share but what happens to the patients. Great IC plan to see the market reduce even faster.
 






I don't care what negative people say on this today. It is always 1 or 2 bitter people trying to speak for the rest of us. I have been in this franchise a long time, and I'm sad today that we lost the most authentic, best leader we have had. He dealt with a lot of crap, and always handled it well and stood right in front of it, even when it wasn't his fault. I can only go by VN who is with him every day, who says he fights for the field, is smart, and a great person. Go negative if you want, but MS was great and I will miss him.

Asa rep you have no idea; your only professional involvement is seeing him give dumb speeches on stage, with slides that are created for him, not by him. I can tell you that MS is one one the dumbest NSDs, and least qualified that you will ever see. Just look at bhis education and compare to others, it speaks for itself.

Yes, your results speak louder, than our words. Four out of last three years were under "F0"budget. Dollars expected to be delivered were not. You were an unqualified huckster. Nice guy to have a beer with, but simply over your head. good riddance.
