Mike Small - HCV NSD































Seriously...why ask this question on this board? You know what you're going to get.
How could anybody have a problem with him? He is a good guy, tries to help the sales force as much as possible, and isn't an asshole. It's not his fault the data has been fucked up. Those who got layed off don't see it that way.

You are kidding right? He is solely responsible for the data disasters the past few years. He hired Fran, who was in way over her head. He completely disregarded the recommendations of the compensation task force. He has his favorites, bad mouths people he does not like and from what I have heard he acts like an idiot around the home office. He also let people make huge payouts with really low market share while people over 80% made very little. I like him as a person I just don't respect him as a leader in his position.

This is what is so crazy about cafepharma. I'm in the home office and used to work on Pegasys. He didn't hire Fran, he was stuck with her. He didn't disregard the recommendations of the compensation task force. He had to go with the Genentech COT thing. I'm sorry, but these personal attacks without understanding what is really happening is just not fair!

Disregarded task force recommendations before the merger. If he did not hire Fran he put up with her incompetence. It was on his watch while they paid out to people for data mistakes, some people made huge bonus for glitches, and did not go back and pay out after it was fixed, people were mistakenly underpaid. This then went on for several years. That is fact. Not speculation.
 






I've been here since launch and am sorry to tell you, that there've been major data glitches since then! Cathy Geddes didn't fix anything and neither did Pat! Mike at least added significant transparency to the reports, so you know where your business is coming from for a change. Oh and the roaming MS, let's not forget he finally ended that! Funny, despite all of this I've made great bonus every yr! Maybe it's you!!!

Mike has always been in way over his head, and the quote about playing favorites is right on the money. Here are the facts, Mike is only an NSD because he was part of the Mircera layoffs, and the company did all they could do to avoid paying severance. The bottomline, is that he was "Placed" into his position, simply becasue the old NSD left, and there were two Mircera "RSDs'" that were available, one had to be relocated, and the other "MS" did not. MS got placed in the job simply because he did not have to be relocated.

Next, I dont know about the 2010 IC plan, but I know that the 2009 was also a disaster, and had nothing to do with "genentech". Mike saw all of the scenarios that would allow absolutely low performer to win PCA, while high performers could get nothing, and he was fine with in. He saw specific examples of specific territories, that this likely could happen to , and he was fine with it. He was warned over, and over, what would happen and like a bone head he was still enthusiatically for it. Then when the disaster hit, he claimed to have nothing to do with it; these are absolute facts. Not only did he support an absolutely idiotic plan, he lied about knowing anything about it.


You are correct in stating the he had nothing to do with Fran being on the job. The previous poster is correct in stating that Fran was way in over a head; this is also a fact. Fran did not have the quantitative skill, nor the technical aptitude to perform the job in full. But this is a perfect example of where MS palyed absolute favorites. He had multiple resouirces,and decided that Fran was his girl. Think of all the boneheadedness that you experienced over the last few years, and tell me how Fran could repeatedly be given SAA awards; multiple times, over and over again, and no doubt multiple great performance reviews. Fran and MS were both superfans of UNC basketball, and she used that like heavily revealed cleavage for years. She could simply do no wrong in MS' eyes. Ive also seen situations where multiple people were interviewing for the same sales territory, and MS clearly allowed one of the candidates to view the others "brag book" days before the interviews, allow the other to compare and adjust.

MS is definately not the sharpest tac in the pac. Granted he knows how to "slap backs" with the best of them, but he simply step in it by getting his job; he is in way over his head. Nothing that I said is gossip or rumors, it is pure fact. If all has been so wrong the past few years, with reporting etc, has Fran ever been written up, put on a PIP, probably not. We do know that she has received many SAAs, how could that be. Well she reported directly to MS. He gets know points for being "a nice guy".

No matter what I say, people are going to call me stupid and an idiot because I'm not negative about him. I'm sure it's the same person over and over because I know most of the field thinks he does a great job, and that he does his best to be honest with us and fights for us. If somebody new took over tomorrow, I'm sure we'd miss him.

Nice guy, but unqualified, and not very bright. Great drinking and sports talk buddy though! Nice speaking voice too! I donyt think your stupid, but only know hime, from a business perspective, superficlally. Lets face it, you are at least 2-3 layers removed.
 






I'm not one to post in this forum, but enough is enough. I've worked with MS in the home office - there is not a sharper and more qualified NSM representing a Brand in the GNE portfolio or elsewhere. You have no idea how he champions YOU in the field. The result in market share growth while managing the bottom line profit speaks for itself. Really, this kind of success for a biologic is unprecedented - a text book case.
 






Ingrates. I'm not one to post in this forum, however, enough is enough. I've worked with MS in the home office - there is not a bigger champion for YOU in the field. There isn't a sharper or better qualified NSD representing a brand in GNE or in the industry - the results speak for themselves.

Pegasys is successful b/c of the reps and the studies
that support it's use not b/c of Mike. He inherited a great brand and team. His first real hires were the RPMs 6 months ago. He is a nice guy but much of the criticism of him on this board is valid.
