Michelle Weese

Danone and BMS for relatively short periods suggests her skills at restructure burn and move is a habit. Though funny she wouldn’t make much money in LTIP as she’s not reaching the 3 year mark. Let’s make sure she doesn’t hit two years at Novartis. The wheels already in motion for that.

Which wheels??

Did I understand her correctly at the town hall? Her vision for reimagining medicine is to pay millions to Beyoncé to alleviate the pain of our patients? How was this clown and her troop of goons ever hired ?

Reimagining Medicine (Novartis Style)"
(To the tune of "Single Ladies")

Chorus:
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!
Up in the office, working overtime,
If your email’s long, full of stupid lines,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!

Verse 1:
I got an email today, from the Novartis crew,
Rebranding all the things we thought we knew,
Poor BMS comms, couldn’t catch a break,
Fumbling with messages that just don’t make sense, they’re fake!

They got rid of jobs, said, "Reapply or go,"
Now everyone’s scrambling, don’t you know?
Wasting time on stupid ideas in the inbox,
I'm just over here thinking, "This won’t work, man, it’s lost!"

Pre-Chorus:
You thought you knew it all, but now you’re in the game,
Reimagining medicine, but who’s to blame?
Now I’m just staring at the Swiss press,
They’re writing stories, giving us no rest!

Chorus:
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!
Up in the office, working overtime,
If your email’s long, full of stupid lines,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!

Verse 2:
Oh, we thought we had it all, with ideas so bright,
But now we’re fighting back, ‘cause something’s not right,
Poor BMS comms, trying hard to explain,
While Swiss journalists call us out again!

It's the age of confusion, emails all around,
Where every word feels like it's sinking down.
A bad reputation’s not what we need,
But we're stuck in this loop, let’s all agree!

Pre-Chorus:
They told us to change, but it’s all the same,
Reimagining medicine, who’s to blame?
Sitting here waiting for the next mistake,
Will the emails ever change for heaven’s sake?

Chorus:
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!
Up in the office, working overtime,
If your email’s long, full of stupid lines,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!

Bridge:
We’re stuck in a cycle, no jobs left to claim,
Made to reapply, but nothing’s the same,
We’ve got Swiss journalists laughing, oh so loud,
Novartis, we’re sorry, we’ll make it proud!

Chorus (Repeat):
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
All the pharma folks, all the pharma folks,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!
Up in the office, working overtime,
If your email’s long, full of stupid lines,
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!

Outro:
Reimagining medicine, yeah, we’ll be fine,
Just send another email, hope it’s not a sign!
If you’re reimagining medicine, put your hands up!

Did I understand her correctly at the town hall? Her vision for reimagining medicine is to pay millions to Beyoncé to alleviate the pain of our patients? How was this clown and her troop of goons ever hired ?
One of her visions for BMS - that she actually shared in a meeting with Executive Leadership Team counterparts - was to "end institutional racism". So there's that.

Well at least she has lowered her expectations since her time at BMS, when she said our ambition was to end institutional racism...

One of the worst examples of failing up ever. No surprise she ended up at Novartis. Likely BMS couldn’t wait to get rid of her.
It's safe to assume that anyone at BMS who works with or in the corporate affairs team was thrilled to see her go...and shocked to learn she landed in the same role at Novartis. Did Chris fire her? Did he tell her she had six months to find a new role? Or did Michelle know that Chris saw through her charade and wasn't going to tolerate her as Giovanni had? We'll never know, and those of us at BMS don't care. She's gone. What's sad is that some very talented colleagues also are gone because of Michelle's scorched earth policy that seemed focused on one thing: break apart a very strong team. Look, we weren't perfect. We knew a new leader meant change was coming, but, holy smokes, no one was prepared for the havoc she wreaked. Things were chaotic prior to Michelle arriving, however she created more chaos. It was nuts. Michelle told me Giovanni gave her six months to restructure the team to her liking; it took her seven. I told her no one was opposed to change, but she needed to align it to a vision and strategy that supported business objectives. She didn't seem to understand that, so she didn't do that. Instead, she proposed high-profile ideas, like celebrity endorsements, getting Giovanni a speaking opportunity at Davos, and Super Bowl commercials, rather than learning the pharma business and figuring out how to tweak a decent department so that it was better than anyone thought we could be. It's a shame. People's lives were unnecessarily turned upside down because of one woman's ignorance, hubris, and ego.

Same thing happened at BMS. Rather than admit he made a horrible decision when he hired Michelle, Giovanni, former BMS CEO, directed his leadership team to help her succeed. Clearly, she didn't win that team's respect because the minute Giovanni announced he was retiring and Chris Boehner was his successor, Michelle had to have known her days at BMS were numbered. It's shocking that she was given another, high-profile role. It's not shocking that the team at Norvartis is now in shambles. What's that saying about the definition of insanity? It's doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
That would entail Giovanni not having made so many bad decisions during his tenure. The company can’t manufacture, can’t launch, keeps duds, and sells blockbusters. The only thing left is to be a bank. All of the poor decisions came directly from the c-suite. The CEO at Novartis is no different. Completely in over his head from day one. So I suppose mediocre breads mediocrity.
