Massive Ethicon layoffs on Monday

If you listened to Prudens conference call, he was very non-optimistic about the future. He stated that the road is only going to get tougher. I am concerned about the future here at EWHU. With the FDA moving the mesh classification from 2-3 and requiring more information and studies; wont this cost millions of dollars? That we don't have to spend. (well maybe we do since no reps are getting paid) But what is the future here, are there any new products coming? are there more lay offs coming next year? Is it better to get out now or wait for the ship to sink totally?

What are your thoughts? This is the first I have been through something like this.

I listened to Pruden's town hall meeting. Some of his comments were positive, but most were not. He said September forecasts had been revised down but already we are not hitting even those lower revisions. He said we don't know that we have hit bottom yet, and he definitely implied more layoffs are possible. Bleak, bleak, bleak.

This is just horrible news. I guess the reprocessing of your harmonics, trocars and other lap devices must really be eating into your profits. I feel really bad for all of you. Did you ever fix the problems with the Optiview trocars? Maybe that will help your bottom line? What about that next-gen harmonic? Can't wait to reprocess that thing.

I'll honk and wave at you losers in line at the soup kitchen.

What a d-bag.

Securestrap will save us!!!!! How much longer do I have to sell this? When does the cross-division selling end?

Put this individual in with a group of JNJ reps who just lost their job and he/she would say nothing to them.

However, put this person in front of a keyboard on an anonymous forum and he/she suddenly gets "tough".

Bravo.

If you are complaining about having to sell Securestrap you are not a good sales rep. Securestrap has made a lot of people ALOT of money this year.

AGREED!!! I have made a killing picking off pro tack users - I can't get a straight definitive answer on how much longer we will get to sell it - does anyone know for sure?

What to do quickly if you have been severed?

(1) If you have 90 day perscriptions to fill get them filled prior to your last day of insurance.
(2) Max out and use your full allocated amount for Health Savings Account
(3) If you have been holding off a medical procedure, call your doctor today and get it done.
(4) Make your order for JNJ items while you still can get the discount.
(5) Get your gym membership and submit it to the company
(6) Get a new cell phone and make sure you keep all your contact information. You will be turning in your cell phone.
(7) While you still have your company car and gas paid for.....make a last minute trips you want, while the gas is free.

If anyone can think of anything else I might me missing, please respond with your idea's

Excellent list. Here are more:
1) Exercise stock options in time for them to clear. Get expense reports current
2) Make a list and copies of all intellectual property submitted
3) Download your email contacts, make copies of bookmarks, professional sites, passwords
4) Scrub your car, desk, office, and computer of all personal items ahead of time
5) Print copies of your retirement funds, medical cards, medical coverage, insurance numbers and the plans themselves. Plan on access being delayed or interrupted.
6) Retain an attorney to negotiage the package and do not sign anything except acknowledgement on the last day.

And most of all, plan something nice for your first day of freedom.

Just a small bit of advice from someone who has been through this before, you may want to think twice about retaining an attorney to negotiate your severance unless you have a personal or family friend who will do it for free.

Otherwise, you will end up spending a good percentage of your severance in attorneys fees.

For example, most hourly rates for attorneys range from $225/hr for know nothing kids out of the local community law school to $450 for a tenured attorney who graduated from a school you've heard of. Forget about anyone from the big name schools....device pays well, but you can't afford it.

You will be charged either 1/10th or 1/15th of an hour for any call, voicemail, email, or "thought" they have about you or your case. That includes the BSing they do in being cordial and pretending they are interested in what you did last weekend.

If they call JnJ corporate and leave a voicemail, they will charge you $30 (1/10th hr at $300/hr). That's right, $30 for a voicemail.

After a few days of phone tag and emails with no beneficial results, you will find yourself with no gained information or additional funds in your pocket. In fact, you will likely be out $600-1500.

Did I mention the retainer fee they want up front just to meet with you?...............

You forgot to include the charge by the minute for the actual phone charges and each page printed off their printer ($5 ea).

I have news for you, JNJ wants you to get an attorney and try and fight the package you will get. All you will get is a huge bill from your attorney and a delay in any package you are going to get. They have all the time in the world and all the money in the world.
You cant afford to fight them nor do you want any delay between your last paycheck. Take the package and get out of dodge. Good luck.

My attorney was worth thousands in my pocket. Find a new attorney. Or better yet, get out of HR.
