Layoffs due to Coronavirus

We are all at risk to be cut. I dont see any of us returning to the field this year and with virtual calls being a total bust, we are an expense with limited value. The virus will change this industry for the next 12-24 months and contract reps are in place for the manufacturer to make head count adjustments with limited severance costs.

My hunch is that some of these manufacturers are trying to find the right time to downsize. They want to validate the limited access is here to stay before they make long term decisions. Once December comes and we are still sitting at home because offices are still restricting access, our Christmas present will be the pink slip and 2 weeks reverence package.

What project are u on?

If you are on a project that has been paying you to sit at home since march and try and do virtual calls, we are all at risk.... This virus is here to stay for a while which means offices won't want to see reps. If we can't see doctors then we are just an expense.

It will be a lot sooner than December.

The contract I am on is being monitored closely. They are looking at all metrics to see our impact. Calls per day, virtual zoom meetings, etc... Once this is looked at our pajama party will be over.

Are there ANY contracts out in the field, or is everyone still at home?

The GSK contract (embedded reps) have been back in the field since mid May...if you count making 3 calls per
day working. I am on Anoro and if I see 2 offices I am doing good. What does Veeva say I see? A full
day to be sure! My FLL is non the wiser although I think my GSK partners are becoming suspicious but
screw them. I am laughing all the way to the bank!

I’m on the janssen immunology contract and still out of the field. These patients have a compromised immune system so that makes sales reps a risk to the office. If I get sent back to the field there might be 1-2 rogue offices still allowing reps. I guess if you out in the field and able to see 2 offices a day you are safer than we are. What specialty do you call on?

If you haven;t figured it out yet, Covid will change this industry forever. Fewer reps will be in this industry in the near future. Massive re-structuring to adjust to the new world.

As the virus is spiking we are forced to stay home longer and this increases the chances of us being downsized. job searching in November and December is rough. I hope we stay on until 2021. any contracts been downsized yet since the virus?

If you are on a contract and you are the ONLY rep in the territory you are safer than most. If you are sharing a territory with a non-contract rep then be prepared to be cut as that is why a contract sales force exists. The corporate term is "sales force flexibility" but this really means easy to downsize.

Listening GSK embedded reps?!? This means you.

I am a GSK embedded rep and do not feel safe. Only lucky to survive up until now... Eventually the pharma industry will adjust to the limited access post-corona virus and continue to cut sales reps as the industry was already over inflated with sales reps before this year.
