Layoff email-here we go again........

Severance is coming to SP before the end of the year, hence the extention. If they waited till after the first of the year, major class action suites. That's why there wasn't a PMP. They know who is going Legacy SP bye-bye. Next round after the first of the year to Merck employees with 10+ years.
" I hate to say it, but I'm doing it for the stake holders," Just like Fred waiting on that big check and walk away rich.
It's cheaper to offer sevrance now, rather than paying for 6-7 more months to unmotivated reps, with potential liability to Merck and the STAKE HOLDERS AND THE STOCK SLIP.
Well spoken. "Human Health" is really Human Shit.

india:

Hello, this is Bob with Merck.

Yeah, wall street was all giddy today about how great this news about the layoffs is and how this is a great decision because Merck will finally transfer resources where the action is: emerging markets. With regard to the question, Yeah but what about the 12,000 job cuts the answer came from the analyst, oh, no problem because Merck is hiring people in the right places, they now have 3500 reps in china. How does it feel to be second rate citizens? We Americans are not used to that but we'll get used to it.

We're a country deep in debt, on the verge of default, with a president (dictator?) who is way in over his head (either clueless, or worse, intentionally destructive)...jobs disappearing everywhere...China is far surpassing us in productivity...very scary. It has been said that the United States will be brought down from within...and we are seeing it happening right before our eyes. If Obama wins in 2012 we are finished. Raising the debt ceiling is nothing more than forking more money over to the unions, who will in turn fork it back to Obama's re-election. God help America.

If layoffs are for the losers and unproductive workers, aren't they all gone by now? What is remaining are the producers and the best, right?

What the executive committee of the company that wants to be "the best healthcare company in the world" is really saying to Wall Street is simple:"oh we haven't been straight with you on how much fat we kept the last round we did cuts: back then we said we're cutting off the fat and keeping all the muscle. Now we're coming out and saying some of that muscle was not really muscle, it's fat, but don't you worry, we're cutting that off now and keeping the REAL muscle."

I don't trust them.

Neuro is definitely going to be one to watch. Saphris has done nothing and with more generics on the horizon, the neuro division is going to disolve faster than a Saphris tab in a schizos mouth. Watch out!

I see a lot of misinformation regarding which divisions will be cut from sales. It's going to be every division except for Hep C because of the Bocep launch. I see a lot of neg toward the Neuro team, most I suspect are primary care reps who weren't chosen for the job. Merck will probably hit that team but keep this in mind that class of meds is the most lucrative in pharma. Highest gross evenue med class surpassing cardio aka statins. Everyone is at risk. Don't fool yourself thinking this guy or that guy is safe. You live an illusion. The only salesforce who will be protected is Hep C because they are in the middle of a launch. Keep speculating and make your life more miserable than it already is

The layoffs are part of the original downsizing and restructuring that was announced in 2010 with the merger of SP. Dont try to create an unneccessary PANIC!!!

That is not true. Check all the financial media announcements and analysist. It is "additional" cuts. That is why Wall Street was praising Merck and Mr F for.

Already my manager is trying to calm the troops. He sent a message saying all sales reps were safe from cuts and this announcement did not include us. Right, and the moon is made of cheese. Who is he kidding?

They will all try to spin it with the comments, "non revenue generating" positions. Just give us the timeline so we can make contingency plans and get the hell out of here.

AS stated this morning that he was giving the DCOs total control over the number of cuts made and did not want to give them a number. He said the number they came back with was more aggressive than his.....means more cuts.....

Umm.. I would be making contingency plans yesterday if I was you. I know I am. Almost everyone I know in the biz that was laid off took at least 6 months to find a new job. For many it took a year or more. If your # is called try to hit the ground running. Good luck!

Now, honey, why would I want to make your life any easier when I gets my jollies by lording power over you and making you cry into your miserable little life? If you was smart, you'd be getting on out of dodge (unless the severance plan is decent) Don't you forget that Mama does what she wants, when she wants to. And that's a fact.

No illusion here. Announced the positive earning, along with how Merck will trim expenses. That will pacify the investors. If layoffs are for the losers and unproductive workers, aren't they all gone by now? What is remaining are the producers and the best, right? Then why cutting any of them?

Better question, why keep multiple sites, and thousands of highly paid professionals, especially reps, when they are clearly not needed? Merck is mainly shifting resources from where they are not needed, to where they are needed. As a public company it is their duty to bring the most value to to their owners (stockholders) as possible. They dont owe employees anything but adherence to the contract "if you do what we tell you to do, we in turn will pay you". Merck does not owe you stability, a career, a nice retirement, or anything else. Its up to YOU to ensure that you stay current and keep your career on track.
