LabCorp in Connecticut: A warning on CT and anyone considering a sales job!

Sorry your experience at LCA was not what you had expected. I can understand your frustration. However, I would not have gave up so easily. If you are such a highly skilled Pharma sales guy with quality sales skills, then you should have had the stamina to hang in there and show the LCA team what a true sales rep can do. It appears based on comments you have made that you let stress, frustration and a negetative attitude get the best of you. You didn't take the high road and a positive approach to the issues you were faced with.
The BEST sales people that I have been associated with have the courage and strength to withstand the tough times. They have patience to overcome the obstables and take it upon themselves to learn and grow and be successful on their own in the sales industry. So maybe what can be gained from this is do not expect every sales job to hand business and knowledge to you on a silver platter. You must be a go getter with a positive attitude and be tough skinned if you want to make it to the top in the sales field. So best of luck to you in your new position and job.

Unless, of course, management really DID hose you. In which case, you need to be more careful about who you go to work for in the future, because dysfunctional and self-serving leadership can often times be the greatest obstacle to individual and organizational success in business.

The original poster confirmed my suspicions about this company

the first go around the 'hiring manager' simply did not show up for the interview ... no call, no explanation, did not cancel but let me sit ... when I called after 20 minutes she claimed to have left me a voicemail message and an email cancelling ... uh no she didn't ... but then went on telling it was really a 'bad day' for her ... well thanks for wasting my time

so when the company called to give me a make up interview I was met with total 'attitude' with how my 7+ years of managing $4+ million territories in speciality pharma and negotiating HMO contracts wasn't going to translate to to 'their' intricate marketplace and how sampling doesn't prepare one for the competitive world of lab service sales ... of course she ignored that all but the first year and a half of my pharma experience had Nothing to do with sampling

after reading this post I am glad to know that my gut feel about this company helped me dodge a bullet

Wow, I can't help wondering why you are so ANGRY that YOU made a mistake (by accepting a job with LabCorp) and I can't help wondering HOW a person with such incredible INTELLECT as yourself and with such AMAZING sales skills could have been so EASILY deceived by the regional and district managers? Surely you could not have been that desperate that your overabundance of brain cells didn't fire off any RED FLAGS when you were offerred a position the day after you interviewed and "BLEW AWAY" the managers with your AWESOME self? What FAIRY TALE were you living in, Mr. or Mrs. ASTUTE?
And the comment about "what is even more disgusting is that I had to blow $40 on a shitty lunch..." PLEASE!! What does that have to do with anything?
Guess you aren't very adept at accepting responsibility for your own actions...hmmm, thought that was one of the traits of a good sales person? I guess you couldn't just accept the fact that you were not a good fit with that position/company and that you (and they) both made a BAD DECISION? The "naming of names" and the "tone" of your post, speaks volumes about your LACK OF CLASS.
I have done both pharma and lab sales and I am considering a position with LabCorp in another area of the country, so I appreciate honest feedback on the company, but I really have to take your advice with a "grain of salt". I just don't get what the BITTERNESS is all about, after a one month stint! You come across like a scourned woman!
Oh, and just one more observation (a poor comparison you made in your post) regarding reps and the ability to get in to see a doctor....how difficult is it to see a doctor as a pharma rep when his or her signature is REQUIRED...not Rocket Science, but then again, you may not be as much of a GENIUS as you think you are.
I really want to give you credit for having such a high opinion of yourself (another good sales quality), but I have a hard time believing that it's real and not just a cover up for some major insecurity, thus the need to "bash the other guy" to make yourself feel and look better.
Anyone else out there have a more long-term and OBJECTIVE view of the company?

The OP gave his opinion and a recap of his experience. Very simple.

....and no one gives a fuck what YOU think.

mindless nonsense.

LabCorp is kicking Quest's ass, plain and simple, and a lot of people just aren't happy about it.

Why is it that Labcorp employees are so paranoid about Quest ?

Doesn't matter anyway....say, how are you Labcorp people taking the pain of AETNA ?

Oooooooooooo...that's gotta hurt.

And kiss BCBS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOODBYE !!

Oriiginal poster here....you have way too much talent for this lame ass segment of healthcare sales. Don't be confused, it's not just LoserCorp, I'm sure it is all of them. You did the right thing!

The original poster confirmed my suspicions about this company

It has occured to me that if I shared how disorganized and unprofessional this company is to anyone outside of the industry they wouldn't believe that a company this big could be that bad.

That's true. I don't know how anyone outside of Labcorp could truly understand what a disorganized cluster fuck this organization really is. It is just hard to imagine how one company could be so bad.

Former sales rep here in CT with a warning to anyone thinking about taking a job in CT or, actually, anywhere else with this joke of a company.

I reactively accepted a role in this loser sector of the healthcare industry. I had just recently been a victim a large corporate downsizing with a surgical device manufaturer, a bit depressed as a result, and reactively accepted the role of the SME in CT after blowing the regional (Bill Crawford) and district (Jane Alix) managers away in a 45 minute interview. It should have been clear to me the next day after this interview when I quickly received an offer that this company had never seen talent and experience like I have for a shit job like this ever in their careers, but the recruiter I was working with sold me a bag of shit on this company telling me that it paid $120k at plan with a car. Well, it became clear to me after doing a couple of field days with the current lackluster reps in CT that are killing their careers with this company, that $120 or for that matter $100k was not close to achieveable.

What's more disgusting is I had to drop nearly $40 bucks on a shitty lunch for some babe in the district that was going out on maternity leave. What was both eye opening and laughable was how good the reps and DM here thought they were. They actually would belittle pharma reps in my presence and pump their chests that they were "lab reps". News flash: none of you could carry the bag of a pharma rep. They would smoke you so bad in front of a doctor in both presentation skills, professionalism and just about every other important characteristic that makes a a good sales rep that it is humorous to me. If I were any of you, I would aspire to be a pharama rep, becasue you are destined for a career of collecting blood, piss and shit if you stay here for too long!! I spent 5 days in the field with a variety of SMEs and KAEs and not one of them spoke to a doctor in their territory. Thankfully, I spent a day in my territory with one of the "senior" SMEs, the only thing senior about him is that he doesn't have the foresight or talent to get himself out of this joke of the industry. However, while in my terrtiry, I was able to drag him into speak with an OBGYN. Thank God, I couldn't take speaking with another retarded lab person in the office or some fool office manager.

Oh, and let's talk about those conversations in the offices. They hate LabCorp, and you will never establish this company's service in CT, because you are so totally fucking disorganized they have lost patience with you already. This fool of a DM, thinks she is just going to snap her fingers come this October, when by the way, her non-compete from Quest expires and she can actually go into offices, and all of these offices are going to fall at her feet to use LabCorp. Honey, it's time to lay of the Xanax because it isn't going to happen. You should have stayed at Quest.....poor career move!

Well, let's wrap it up, I start with a real company tomorrow, another surgical device company, where not only is $120 realistic, but $170k at plan is anticipated, not the crap I was sold at LoserCorp. Bottom line, I was here 1 month and the IT department still couldn't get the Blackberry they gave me to work. Never gave directions on how to get into the company's voicemail system to activate it, spent 2 weeks getting an email account up and running and decided not to train me on any of their products or services, but expected me to make an impact in the field. Hmmm, can see how that training strategy has been sucessful!!

For any prospective candidate thinking about this company, if the above tirade isn't enough for you to run far away from this comany fast, then you are probably the perfect candidate to join LoserCorp--a brainless knucklehead who has no aspirations to further his/her career in medical sales. Do yourself a favor, either go to or stay in pharma. THIS IS NOT A POSITIVE CAREER MOVE FOR A PRIMARY CARE PHARMA REP OR GOD FORBID, SPECIALTY PHARMA REP. As for me, yes, this was a foolish move, but I saw dollar signs and a paycheck instead of collecting. I knew I would be out within a year. I didn't realize it would be within a month and LoserCorp will obviously never don my resume!

Wow, this was 100% accurate and applicable to the West Division. I agree -- if you want great experience at a reputable/steller/ethical company, DO NOT go to LabCorp. Your crediblity will totally be compromised with clients and you're skills will erode quickly (esp since the company wants you to sell, but they don't provide any training...then ding you for not knowing your job/selling properly to clients..talk about screwed up.).

The original poster was smart to leave after 1 month. I didn't and am stuck with a black mark on my resume...plus the memory of absolutely horrible experience there.

Go away Phadia management troll

Hope you can overcome that black spot between your ears where a brain should be. Quest is laying people off right and left, and LabCorp can't hire fast enough. Now what's that tell you, you silly ass fuck?

I'll explain, because your IQ is probably lower than the # of posts from actual LabCorp personnel represented on this thread. It means that in spite of your best efforts to scare people away from employment here, we are going to continue to grow and hire people faster than you can say "KISS UHC GOODBYE FOREVER."

Now go lay off some more of your people. Maybe we'll have openings for them.

What a tool. Is this Bert C, Mike E, or the rest of the "gonads are small bunch"?

Layoffs abound. Top performers go bye-bye because of pay issues or territories being cut. Only the weak survive. Less commission, ya know?

Labcrap. It Sucks to be connected to something so disgusting.

I agree 100% that this company is a joke. Most people I have dealt with seem to have their heads stuck so far up their own ass, that they have no clue what is happening around them. I have a question for the original poster? What was the base salary you were given? I too was fed a line of crap about $120K. What was your Base Salary?
