I work at amgen. ask me anthing. I'll answer honestly

Damn, you people are gullible. Per the email that was sent out which stated an amendment to the transaction agreement “Amgen takes time to get to know incoming employees; if there are departures without cause within the first several months following the closing, these would likely be initiated by the employee rather than Amgen.”. They aren’t even guaranteeing that there won’t be layoffs in the first several months…it’s LIKELY there won’t be. Even LG the GM of the GBU said that initially Amgen was looking to have the Enbrel reps sell Krystexxa, though she doesn’t believe they will do that now. The point is that they are looking to condense as much as they can, and did not buy us for the people. There WILL BE significant layoffs, especially in Deerfield. They bought us for the drugs…mainly Tepezza. Big pharma does not value people, especially Amgen. They reorg to cut as many people as they can on a regular basis.

That isn't what LG said. And I spoke to her about this at the NSM. She has been very impressed with the discussions she has had with Amgen. And thinks Horizon employees will play a big role within Amgen. And you are reading in way too much to the quote from Amgen.

Also big pharma loves big profit...Horizon is big profit on smaller revenue. Krystexxa is very profitable with a small salesforce. I would be more worried if I sold Tepezza and the shit show that has been going on over on that side. Not sure if its marketing, sales operations or sales leadership but something needs to change in the OBU. I suspect Amgen will make those changes rather quickly.

Wishful thinking will not prevent the inevitable.

Funny that you know what she said since no one else was a part of our conversation. She totally tried to spin it, but clearly they are looking to consolidate! And of course they love profits which is WHY they are going to lay people off. Are you really so stupid as to believe that there is no redundancy in the entire company? They do not need the vast majority of people in the home office. They have their own finance, analytics, accounting, compliance, legal, IT, training, fleet, expense, HR, etc. They aren’t going to keep a facility up and running just for a few marketing teams when they can just hire new ones if those they choose to keep don’t want to move. Krystexxa just unnecessarily expanded its sales force and we reps make a lot more money that their existing reps. There is no need to have 2 separate teams at all.
Ugh, I’m so sick of “they bought us for the people & value us”. Did you really expect them to be honest? “Hey, we only bought you for the products and we are going to get rid of as many of you as possible to be more profitable, but we want you to stay for awhile until we own you and can figure out just how many of you we can cut.?” Um, no.

Maybe they lay off Amgen employees. Many of them don't know the rare disease space. Besides Horizon is doing an amazing job so why make so many changes at Horizon? Wall Street sees it that way

normally I’d agree with you. But Amgen has been cheap lately and on a budget. So I would bet they get rid of the high salaries first

We have approximately 600 sales reps...if on base salary everyone was 30k more than the average amgen rep that is 18 million. That is nothing on amgens balance sheet. You are obviously a rep that doesn't see the big picture. Will bonus get cut...yeah for sure. Will the offer 25k+ a year in rsu...no way. But also no way are they laying off people cause of what you deem high salary.

In addition with that 18 million in additional salary comes 3 billion extra in sales at a high profit margin. Of course they will consolidate positions like HR and fleet. They already know that dummy.

And YOU think krystexxa did an unnecessary expansion. People in positions way higher and better paid than you feel differently. Again you are obviously a narrow minded rep that can't see past the trees in a forest. Regardless it's way to early to tell if it was unnecessary. We did almost 300 million more sales this year. And the neph Salesforce doesn't cost us anywhere near that. We will be over 1 billion in sales with krystexxa in 2023.

Amgen is not getting rid of any high performing Horizon reps nor is it doing anything to hurt their IC program. They want the products they bought to perform and rep salaries and bonus payments, while not insignificant, and not determinant.

Unfortunately, what happens is that over the course of about 12-18 months post closure, as systems are integrated, your bonus will fall under Amgen's House of IC Horrors. It' won't be all at once, but gradually what you will notice is:

missing data
misaligned customers (we use a system called ATLAS that was developed in the 70s)

we only buy about 60% of SP data and project so if you are missing a key SP like Accredo you are screwed.

baselines will usually be delivered about 10% correct a 6 weeks into the quarter. the corrected baselines will not be delivered at all but payments will be made. they are always late.

you are considered a trouble maker if you point out any problems to your DM. They only get a small number of inquires they are allowed with ZS. ZS completely treats Amgen like it's bitch.

over time, with the inaccurate IC reporting, the best of the best leave and we are left with the vanilla duds who claim they are "working for patients"

the remainder will all have similar SGA reports but hey, at least my manager sends me my coaching guide within 24 hours of her visit

I have no more concerns about a layoff. Thanks, Rep GM. This was helpful.

This is spot-on

No doubt Amgen has issues with IC reporting. However that is actually one thing that we won't have to worry about. This is a buy and bill product- we don't have to buy SP data (99% of vials aren't "brown bagged" from a SP). So ours is pretty accurate as to what is actually purchased. When "Smith Rheumatology" purchases 8 vials on a Monday we know and it shows up. We do have some issues about rep getting credit for a vial that ultimately gets filled in another territory- but its pretty minor stuff.

But I agree Amgen isn't blowing up anything right away. Would make no sense. Changes over time- of course. Will we make less over all money- of course. Just in the lack of RSU grants and eventually much less lower overall bonuses.

LMAO! You are clearly a home office drone who does not understand this business in the slightest. These are the same higher up morons who think it makes sense to have 2 reps in a territory w/ 1 calling on one speciality & the other calling on all others, including the one that writes the most…and RM wants us to divide and conquer when we are in remote areas but only pay the NSAMs for starts/referrals from nephs and their RSAM has to approve them seeing a rheum even though they get paid on all vials for 50% of their IC. How about just make the damn territories smaller and put one rep in there calling on everyone! Then it’s easier to see all of their targets more frequently and you don’t have to depend on another rep. Not rocket science. The people in higher positions are notoriously bad at staffing sales people in most companies. Horizon’s is the worst I’ve seen in over 2 decades.
It’s also cute that you think that any real CEO is going to be just fine with the costs of personnel as long as there’s a profit. Lol! Their job is to be as profitable as possible, dumb ass.
Well, good luck finding a new job. You’re going to need it given how clueless you are!

I sincerely hope this is the same idiot that keeps posting this craziness, because it would be a shame to have two people at this company so damn stupid. It’s seriously painful. Wow. Just wow.

You’ll have a few months. Amgen reorgs like no other. They paid a buttload for Horizon, so they will look to decrease costs ASAP.
