I’ve seen this before. A sales guy/gal comes in and puts call metrics in place and asks you to account for your time, all your time, you and you freak out because, “How dare they! Do they know who I am and with whom I have relationships?” Not knowing the specifics though I suspect you’re all upset because you are being treated like employees rather than divas. Just saying.

Could it be KH? He too should be tossed with PH. Both only care about making themselves look good all the while we laugh at them as they are so fake and out of touch with how they treat and speak to their teams.
 




Kevin and Peggy only manage up. That’s all there is to it. If you aren’t their fan favorite they crush you like a black swan. Such a boring, repetitive story anywhere you go with weak and cheap leadership. When people leave, they take their relationships with them. They think everyone is replaceable in their eyes. Imagine if anyone treated a family member of theirs this way. They should enlist themselves in ranked classes of the DoD and learn what rank, honor and leadership actually are today.
 




And the lemmings below them have learned the same thing. They don't care about their peeps. Only how to make themselves look good and get promoted. The direct reports of KH are the worst of the lot from what I see. They must wake up everyday drinking the Gene Koolaid on how they can sound smart and who can they boss around on any given day. Most of them don't deserve to be in their roles. They were in the right place and the right time or kissed someone's ass to get there.

I know they read these posts = News flash - there are a lot of unhappy people here. I know you all don't care. Most stay because of good pay and benefits but one day we will all say enough of your BS.
 




Just reading through this post. Some things come through loud and clear.

It is so pathetic what has become of this once great place. Leadership or lack thereof is the true problem. Leadership at all levels is weak at best. No doubt PH has achieved the Peter Principle. Note to Rav - PH manages up well and that is the only reason she is where she is. She is not a genuine leader and has been the direct cause of many resignations over the year. She may actually have the record at the big G. Not well like by those of us in the field. Very hard to listen to her on any calls. Chalk on a blackboard is more pleasing.

As far as the posts about KH, they are pretty much dead on accurate. Was not liked in Onc, was not a great manager despite the claims of JF and also should not be a leader in this org. His hiring skills also raises some questions about his judgement.

The morale is low on many teams and the shame of it is that this issue is a direct result of how we are treated by those with the bigger titles. San Fran will take a long time if ever to get back to the once great city it was. That is the same situation for the FMT. Getting rid of some of these supposed leaders is a good first step. Rav there is lots of work to be done. Unfortunately, gSpeak is a nice slogan but we all know it is not true so you may never hear the truth from any of us.

I echo that there is a lot that could be overhauled in FMT. First we need leaders who have experience and love leading people and that people love working for. Don’t hire based on the initials behind a name hire based on proven experience!
There are some who work very hard in FMT but others working minimal there’s not much in between. Also put MSLs back to the level they were at before transformation. We should be at a level at least of MEDs since they don’t do much anyways!
 




More Cuts is needed in South San Francisco. I would eliminate the training teams. Cut most support roles. Cut most incompetent management, which is most. We have to be conscious of our carbon impact. End the free bus rides. It’s a symbol of gentrification.
 




Can certainly cut some immuno MSLs. Is there really enough work for Actemra to have a full team. Lots of vacancies anyway so shrink the team.

Respiratory also can be cut in half - esbriet is done and xolair days are essentially over. No need for msl support at this point.

All these field directors are over paid anyway.
 




















This place is down right scary. They push diversity yet their system says otherwise with this blue badge culture and contractors. I have to admit, we have mistreated contractors over people with blue badges who have done nothing. I would never recommend this place, if it weren’t for the pay and benefits.

Nice to see that folks are fed up enough to call leadership out on their BS that has been going on the last few years!

What I see posted is spot on which hopefully is seen by senior leadership and given real consideration and perhaps some action.

PH and KH are two of the most toxic ‘leaders’ I’ve ever seen. That negates any positives and talents that they have because it effects many in the FMT and has large toxic ripple effects. The mass exodus of many good managers and MSLs last year should have been a clear sign of an issue!
 




Interesting how JF hired all the heads who hired the field directors, who subsequently ruined this place by causing most of the good people to leave and now she is off to Basel. Did she get forced out for screwing this up? Or did she finally realize she does not understand what an MSL does? Either way, she is the cause of this big mess. Seems like there is no accountability for those in charge. If someone quits, they somehow spin that is a positive way. They truly are clueless in how to lead and motivate us.

PH is the master of positive spin to senior leadership and JH was inept enough to listen to her when she was new and needed mentoring and education on what we do. I think she may have even helped get her the job and if so, then helped insure JH had some good feelings for here. In fact, this started even earlier when PH was a big advocate for JF partner EP who was the oncology head in USMA. Sorta rings with nepotism, quid pro quo, and favoritism.

Unfortunately that hurt JH right out of the gate and then all the crazy decisions/activities that followed related to ecosystems, reorg, re-interviewing, etc…we’re destined to flop. Add Covid to the mix and the toxicity became a viral mess.

I’m not sure she was forced out. Upstream leadership also changed a lot during this time so as long as she was showing progress on the reorg and spinning the positives and downplaying the negatives (mass exodus of talent), she got a pass. I suspect she was praying to find a internal job to get out of the mess and landed up in Basel back in commercial role….far from the mess we have to clean up for those still here.

Our Genentech founding fathers would NOT be happy with where we have evolved which is far away from their founding principles.

A recent email about someone leaving actually said for a lateral move to another company ,,,,,Who does that who cares if its lateral or not they left because this place is a shit show
