How long before Novartis gets rid of Alcon

It was always part of the plan since the start don't kid yourslef

It's what happens when a multi-national behemoth like Novartis is majority owned by an elite class of financial institutions and anonymous private individuals rather than the employees who create the value and customers who depend on the benefits.

Unfortunately no company doing the right due diligence is likely to buy Alcon in its present state at a price acceptable to Novartis. Alcon is currently not worth anywhere close to the US$55B Novartis paid for it.

Novartis, to sell Alcon would have to offer it at a substantial loss versus the original acquisition cost. This is unacceptable as it would surely have disastrous effects on Novartis' stock price.

The more likely scenario is Novartis attempting to sell off Alcon piecemeal, with the surgical and vision care businesses the most likely candidates. But even this scenario would require some degree of rehabilitation to the surgical and vision care franchises to make make them attractive to a buyer.

This however is unlikely to happen under the current leadership of Alcon. The way Alcon is being led is likely to see further slides in the fortunes of all of Alcon's franchises.

So in short, Alcon and Novartis are stuck with each other, for now. A marriage made in heaven destined to end in hell.

Novartis pharma will first absorb Alcon pharma. Which means if you are an Alcon pharma rep you are SOL.

HR Monitor:: We normally take holidays off at HRM but this post is both offensive and total nonsense. There will be no acquisition and absolutely NO layoffs. REST ASSURED YOUR CAREER IS SAFE HERE!!!!

DuPont is going to have 1600 layoffs despite making a 3.5 billion profit. The idea is to merge with Dow and then split into speciality, pesticide and agri businesses. As a matter of pure speculation, the same scenario may play out with Alcon, i.e. layoff, then sell to Valeant and have the combine Alcon/Valeant split into (say) pharma and consumer divisions.

Alcon talent still recruiting reps (glaucoma) as of February 2016. Novartis invested 1 billion in Alcon division. There are a few things coming down the pipeline for Alcon. Sounded like they were close to turning it around.
