Evil things going on at Astellas

The leadership needs to step back and get their hands/head arround this...many many people feel the same way now and what will happen is, some good ones will leave, some will stay and their performance will be poor and someone will cause great disruption. Please, leadership, don't simply react to people like they are nuts, or lazy or don't know how to work, listen to your employees. There are some very bad apples in management causeing some serious problems that will impact this company and impact customers. You can't always side with your leadership, be carefull, check things out!!

Last poster: You presume tht there is "Leadership" at Astellas. Could not be further fom the truth. Look at the heads of Legal, HR, Sales and Marketing. They are all suffer from insecurity and use fear and intimidation to rule their respective areas. The Japanese are totally clueless to what these individuals do and they bow and smile to appease them. Everyone is so focused on themselves and not the welfare of their departments and people.
Astellas is a smoke and mirrors organization that is bound to fail at worst or be exposed for all of the wrong doing that happens on a daily basis.

Very well said!

It would be "hopeful" and "motivating" to the sales force if they actually did do something about the situations that are occurring in the field, and most likely home office, at Astellas. I think if HR, etc stood up and said, "no, this behavior(s) are inappropriate for not only corporate America, but our company environment", more employees would feel motivated, hopeful and would stay and work hard.

Right now, there in a lot of intimidation, abuse and mismanagement occurring that is ruining the company and productivity...not to mention health of employees. My coworker had heart palpitations and went to ER!!! MY GOD...FUCKING DO THE RIGHT THING YOU FUCKERS! THIS IS people's lives!

It is hard to get out a sell everyday when you know there is no one supporting you and you have no future no matter how hard you work. Moral is at an ALL TIME LOW! I, and others, will work our asses off and make it happen...but why do this for abusive managers who offer you no future no matter how hard you work. It needs to stop, or lawsuits, FDA violations and mass exodus are going to occur. STOP THE MADNESS ASTELLAS & DO THE RIGHT THING!

I agree with OP. If you go to HR, you will be retaliated against.

I have seen it over and over again. I have a very good friend, sweet girl, one of the hardest working coworkers I have ever had...that they are harassing the shit out of...I am proud of her for standing up for herself...but very sad that Astellas, a company I used to respect... allows harassment to occur at this level when someone has sought advice from HR.

I think the company is doing the wrong thing and if they can do this to a good rep/person...they will do it to anyone. Don't think you are immune...you are a number!

Wake up people! You work for a Japanese company. There is no complaining allowed amongst the ranks. You will not be coddled by your manager and certainly not by any member of HR as they are agents of the company. Do your work and be quiet or face the wrath of someone who gets rewarded for "weeding out".

I am currently being recruited for a position with Astellas in the new sales force, can someone please tell me what you are referring to in the post? It seems to be a huge red flag about the company and I don't want to leave something good for a bad situation. Any insight/info would be helpful. I'm in the Southeast area btw.

This company has serious management issues. If you have something good do not come here.

If you have something good, I would NOT recommend it unless you are unemployed and even then I would keep looking IF YOU CAN. SE is highly stressful and VERY, VERY, VERY cut throat. If you were in another area, I would say go for it. It is not worth the stress in the SE if you already have something good. Everyone is trying to leave that is a good rep. There will be mass exodus when the economy improves. Unfortunately, Astellas has no idea and/or doesn't care about what is happening. It is really awful.

This sounds like the company I work for. Most of the managers suck and don't care about the reps, they only want to bend over for the zds! They intimidate and manage by negativity and fear and did nothing special when they were reps. I submitted my resume to Astellas but don't think I want to go from one negative experience to the next.

I honestly think that managers are feeling more empowered to abuse people bc of the perceived bad job market.

My advise is to avoid getting on a pip. Do your admin ahead of time. Plan your ride alongs as if it were an interview. Do what you have to do to get your mgr off your back. Save a file on your manager. HR will not protect you unless there is a severe issue that could cause them to be sued. Don't talk to your teammates about how you are feeling bc they will only repeat it.

Look for another opportunity. There are jobs out there but, you really have to be committed to looking. My suggestions spend two weeks on your resume & cover letter.

I was working for a person like this. Get out. I did.

A guy I worked with who is absolutely wonderful was put on a PIP. Anyone know if that is "it" when it occurs? Is your career over for good. I have told him hang in there, but I don't blame him for feeling this way. Especially since I know he is a good rep.

I am with Astellas and thought I was the only one going through this. I have literally been made ill by my manager over all of this. I work my butt off, was put on 'a plan' for what really amounts to Admin stuff and a manager wiith an axe to grind. Numerous teammates have said I am doing nothing that they are not doing and in fact work longer and harder than they do. Reality is, the ship is sinking, the contract force is easy and cheaper to replace us with down the road and PIP's are cheaper than severence. HR is of NOOOOOO help and can't figure out up from down. If they want you gone they will. Doesn't have to be anything major just have to have a paper trail, even if it is small stuff.
I am just glad to know that people other than myself are experiencing this, mow maybe I can sleep tonight.

I am sorry to hear you have been put through this. No, you are not alone. I think it is their way of downsizing without looking badly. Sad thing is that they are "targeting" certain people that don't deserve it. Hang in there, I am sure you did nothing wrong and I will say a prayer for you that that will get better.

Also, in talking to a few recruiters, they stated that careerbuilder, monster and medreps use scanners and if you resume doesn't contain certain trigger words, you will be overlooked or resume is spit out. They recommended using more useful career sites and networking avenues. Do your research, network, redo your resume and focus on yourself and a future away from this situation. Many of us our looking, even those not on PIPS, and if you can connect with "sales managers" and go above the norm, you will be more likely to get noticed. Keep your head up!

I am thankful for this thread on Thanksgiving day. I thought I was the only one. Can someone please be more specific about the abuse (ie, provide examples without giving yourself away)? I will be leaving the company soon, and will be more than happy to organize an effort to whistle blow on the company for the bullshit we all have put up with. The FDA would love to hear about compromising activities. I'll share mine. I know my manager doesn't make us itemize our phone bills, which isBasically besides the every day grind, we have tons of admin to do that eats up time at home, as Astellas tries to promote a non-existing balance between work and family life. If I am a few minutes late late on a few admin items, my manager tears me a new asshole in a gentle way. I have been given a warning and threatened to be put on a plan. My RM has printed out e-mails that state I am going to be late with expense report, this report, or any other BS micromanaging report that I am sick and tired of doing. Unfortunately, I don't know of really anything that my RM is doing illegally, but like I said I would love to lead everyone to make some whistleblowing money if you would care to join me and divulge some info. Reference my post number when responding so that I know you are responding to me and my post.

Looking forward to going back to my roots in my old industry, where I receive a lot of respect and gratitude for my services!!!

Number 39, who is going to trust who you say you are? HR and legal are capable
of trying to draw out responses so they can estimate whether or not they
have a problem brewing. There are many pending lawsuits against the company
in at least two Chicago law offices I know of.

The best way for an individual to proceed is to gather up all info, make lists and describe scenarios clearly and accurately. Read Illinois state employment law and determine
which of your rights have been violated. Then contact one of the top ten
employment lawyers in Chicago and schedule an evaluation meeting. Cost may
be nothing to 400.00 dollars or so. There are a couple of consultants who can help
you prepare dossiers. Only a couple of good ones. Ask around. Check with
staff at Deerfield, excluding Legal and HR.

As for violations of FDA law contact
the Chicago FDA office. They will be happy to meet with you.
