energy sales rep

I have 3 friends who sell Energy for Gyrus/Olympus.

1. early 30's, 3 years exp. and makes roughly 170k (works his ass off)
2. Early 50's, 16 years exp. and makes about 150k (works 20-30 hours a week)
3. Early 40's, 10 years exp. and makes 400-500k (works hard but associates work harder)

Energy vet here. Easily the hardest and most underappreciated job in the entire company. Thunderbeat is probably the best laparoscopic energy device on the market. But still few gpo contracts. I've seen really talented reps crash and burn because they're locked out of most of their hospitals. On the flip-side I've seen some really talented reps kill it after landing already developed territories. But all in all not a bad place to start. Probably not the place if seeking longevity. Gone are the Gyrus heydays when you could make some serious jack. Good luck.

The only way it gets in is when Olympus give it away or they throw in the box when they put new towers in an account. They use it as a Trojan horse, and they'd still can't get the business.. Applied will mop up all you assholes when our energy device comes out!!! Jump on the Groshans bandwagon..... We are gonna make some serious jack!!!

^^^^^ hahahah...he said Applied!!!

I work for energy and anyone saying there are a lot of reps making good money is lying. We used to. But even with the improved comp plan this year it's less than most pharma reps. Doesn't help you get told no everyday at every account t unless you're calibalizing your PK business.

So true about making less than pharma reps in the energy division. But wait, all the ATMs they have hired are going to save the day!!

The field reps understand it is all about CONTRACTS!!!! We have been telling management this, but they aren't listening. They think the answer is hiring more personnel (marketing, clinical specialists, ATMs, etc). Management is spending money on everything, but getting THUNDERBEAT on contracts.

I like this last poster.
Same is true for Urology disposable contracts.
Olympus just does not get that disposable need to be driven contractually, from the top down!!!

Wait, I thought this device was the best device available and surgeons were demanding that they have it available for all of their cases? What about the reps on the Olympus and Gyrus boards that were bragging about how they were going to make $400K this year?

THUNDERBEAT is a great device and surgeons are demanding it. However, gone are the days when surgeons get what they want. Contracts are now dictating what a surgeon uses. I'm sure a FEW reps will make well over $200K, but the MAJORITY will be less than pharma level pay.

Let's get one thing straight Ahab.

Yeah we totally never knew it was all about CONTRACTS until the "field reps" shed light on this subject! LMAO! Energy reps have been saying this from the start! I work my ass off to sell Thunderbeat am in the top 20% and only make about 150K. Doesn't add up. Looking.
