D Day

It's called business 101. Quit being so thin skinned and naive. Continental and United Airlines merged recently. With corporate being consolidated in United's legacy locale in Chicago it was announced last week that 500 folks will lose their jobs at the legacy Continental HQ in Houston. FIVE HUNDRED FOLKS IN ONE WAVE OF THE WAND. Companies that merge have duplicity. They merge for economies of scale. Excess needs to be trimmed to manage expenses. There are countless scenarios like USL/Genzyme and Continental/United. Look at big PHARMA over the years with mass layoffs. There is no loyalty either way by employee or corporate entity. It's become our part of our culture here in America. DEAL WITH IT!!!!

Let me guess. You're a real bright know-it-all,with a hotshot degree, who has all of the answers. Translated= corporate shmuck. Listen, sonny, whether those things that you mention happen or not, the bottom line is that they affect real people. Additionally, real people have real families, real bills, real problems. It's people like you that crunch numbers, squeeze profits and cast employees to the wind, like so much chaff. Part of the culture or not, does not mean it is right. Mergers are inevitable, layoffs are inevitable, but treating people the way that corporations, such as LabCorp does, is unacceptable. We live in the 'me, me, me" world which is why the corporate world we live in these days, sucks a big one. Don't hand me that crap about "managing expenses" either. There's more than enough wealth to go around, especially at LabCorp. Unfortunately, the greedy bastards at Corporate choose not to share the wealth with the paeans, at the bottom of the employee food chain. It's people like you who are too stupid to realize that you aren't fooling anyone when you post your quarterly earnings on the website, and then turn around try to convince employees that there's just not enough money for decent raises. By the way, 2% doesn't qualify under the definition of a "decent raise." Especially when health care premiums go up disproportionately, every year.

Obviously, you are not old enough to remember or were never taught the golden rule. You know the old axiom "Do unto others...." Well, trust me smart guy, people like you will get yours. People like me will never be around to witness it, but you will get yours, either here or in the end. Also, you are dead wrong about employee loyalty. There's a ton of employee loyalty out there. It's employee loyalty that keeps ratholes, like LCA, in business. So, you keep living by your "me, me, me" philosophy and see how that works out for you down the road. You probably needed a few more spankings when you were a kid, and a lot less spoiling.

Re: Genzyme Reps are Lucky to Be Here

And to just set the record straight it seems that more Genzyme folks were maintained than USL folks. So QUIT bitching!! I understand the logic though. LCA just spent over 900 million on the acquisition. The last thing they want is a mass exodus of business after that major purchase. Genzyme reps will be tasked to create that "business as usual" environment to maintain current clients. As a USL rep for many years all I did was take oncology office business away from Genzyme. I competed against IMPATH/Genzyme in the early days. Impath was a force to be reckoned with. Genzyme was very easy to compete against. So to all the Genzyme reps welcome. Just don't beat your chest with a holier than thou attitude as we establish this new team. And for all you naysayers that claim that the USL folks can't/don't sell we closed $26,000,000 (that's million) in new business last year. So get your records straight before you spout off and make fools out of yourself.

26 Million is based on natural growth plus new accounts, If you want to see growth you should look at Clarient, Holy Shit!

The majority of Genzyme oncology reps, especially in
New York under IP made their target by having accounts "removed" from quota and didn't actually bring on new accounts. In the Midwest Region we actually sold. At least until recently.

Whenver these people talk about this stuff it just makes me sick...blah blah blah. I get home, wax my balls and head to the lanes. Roll a few games and head home again, to wax my balls. My balls get waxed daily after a long time rolling on the lanes. So why don't you people stop making me sick and wax your balls.

Why shouldn't sales reps close there own deals since they are being paid on business they close in their territory? You sound as if you're an "entitlement" child. You want someone else to close business for you and then sit back and collect commissions. That's not the real world sweety pie!

First of all you are an outsider looking at this company’s board; your reply gave that away.
Second if you were part of this company you would have known that sales reps have to have them involved in every lab deal out there by order of upper management.(now look at where they are)
Reps close the business while they sit back and take credit and collect commissions since they are mirrored to the sales reps book of business.
Get you facts straight and go stir up garbage on another board

Unfortunately, the previous poster was spot on. It is the way that things are done at LabCorp. For the person who posted "...Genzyme used to be a place where you built up your career and where you had some kind of security because you did a good job, worked hard and were rewarded..." Those exact words describe LabCorp in its former state, not so long ago. These days we have a lawyer for a CEO(that should pretty well sum up everything that you need to know about LCA), and a Corporate mentality that has makes the term "micro-manage" seem laughable. Corporate is interested in two things: 1) bonuses and 2) making acquisitions to prop up the stock price so that investors don't really find out what's going on behind the scenes.

In truth, LCA has/is losing business like crazy. Corporate is powerless to stem the flow of lost business because they insist on putting cronies/incompetents/butt-kissers in positions of authority, that have no clue what they are doing, or how to do it. There is no leadership, from middle-management on up. The good managers are only able to keep their jobs because they have become adept at dodging s***balls thrown at them, from Burlington, and trying to keep idiocy-generated stupidity, i.e. formal company policies, to some sort of manageable level. They spend an enormous amount of time trying to keep the "target" off of their own backs so that they can make some real differences for employees in spite of corporate stupidity. Gone are the days of employee input and feedback. Any suggestion, idea or notion offered by employees, these days, only serves to have said employee labeled as a trouble-maker or disgruntled, necessitating their removal from the employee rollcall, ASAP!

LCA cannot and should not be trusted, most especially when it comes to promises made regarding severance. Prime examples of their misleading and devious policies are the way that they treated the folks in Evansville, Louisville and a few other places several years ago, when they closed the lab, and shifted the work to Columbus. If you go back to the not-so-distant past, on the these boards, and read some of the threads you can get a real feel for how LCA treats their employees. You will have to wade through some crap to get there, but you should be able to decipher which post are genuine, and which are BS. LCA was once a place where people loved to work; where there was a sense of community; where we all worked for the same company with one purpose and goal in mind... that being the delivery of ACCURATE and TIMELY test results. Employee input was encouraged; ideas were welcome; discussions were held and the company generally looked out for the employee. Sadly, that LCA is no more, extinct like the dinosaurs. Corporate greed and dictatorial policies rule the day. Unfortunately, there are no brighter days on the horizon, unless, of course, you manage to escape and find a job elsewhere. So, there it is then. Good luck!

WOW....

Heard Pepsi Joe (RP) and BTK both got demoted to Director And RMBD. Surprised RP didn't get the boot.

LCA made a horrible decision with this. BTK knows USL better than anyone and he was the only one who had the sales force backs. Very sad and I am sure LCA will get what they deserve. Ever heard the statement, dont cut off the hand that feeds you. Well done LCA, well done.

what do we do if we worked for Genzyme, got riffed but signed a non compete back in Dec. If we did not sign it we were fired, and now we have no job. Is there anything we can do? is this legal?
