Company culture

No one is drinking the koolaid. Come even managers are telling us to always have our resumes ready, what else do you want them to do? To be real, everyone has been looking for months, if you have something better you should take it
Yes managers are telling us to look, yes people are looking. BUT PEOPLE ARE STILL BEING FIRED! The really sorry part is some were fired this week and Barry just up and quit. So what, it was on his "to do list" to quit and get in a few more firings!? What a class act! This company is a joke!

I really hope that they give more severence than 4wks, that is what they gave those who were fired previously. With that additional $60 we know they have covered operating costs through 2023.

Are you fucking kidding me?

They said it in the call that they aren't anticipating alcon taking the Salesforce, that wasn't part of the deal. They have their own Salesforce albeit small.

I think it will be challenging for people from Kala to find another job in the Eye Care industry. After all of the crap they pulled with sending out letters to companies and bad mouthing reps. That is of course unless you’re part of the chosen few.

Looks like it would be better to have been fired earlier this year with all the firings that they were doing rather than actually sticking it out and staying here, because according to the managers conference call this afternoon we will be getting little to no severance package.
We know that people that were fired last year and even this year were given 4, 6, 8 weeks of severance based on tenure but yet here we are and we’re going to get nothing?
WHERE IS THE 60M going?

This can't be true? How can they give us nothing?

Is there no law or anything? Don't they have to give us something? Yes people let go earlier were given time as stated above, so how can we get nothing? This seems sketchy to me.

Ok here's the tea. Executive leadership doesn't care, that has been made abundantly clear since the launch of Eysuvis. My advice would be to get your resume and LinkedIn in order, and take this time to find a job. Do as little as possible for Kala because in the end they aren't going to do anything for you.

So they gave severance to the people they wanted to get rid of that were not performing well and they will not give severance to the better performing reps they kept.
Sure
Makes total sense.

I don’t think severance is a reward for good work (it’s not a bonus). It’s meant to reduce legal/financial risk for the organization.

I think we should all be documenting everything. I’ve already been in touch with a lawyer, and I will continue to seek legal counsel should I not receive an adequate severance.

If everyone who is laid off pursues legal recourse, I think it would be more costly/time consuming than just giving us a reasonable severance. That being said, we should not sign and take a crappy deal. Strength in numbers…

I’ve been through reorganizations with large companies and with smaller companies, I have always received a severance be it big or little. A severance is not a bonus, and yes they gave people who were fired "severances"..... maybe it would be better if we termed it as hush money.
The WARN period requires companies to give 60 days notice, 60 days from the day this went down would be July 23.
apparently $60 million isn’t enough to pay a severance.......?.

"Alcon sees enough promise in the products to pay $60 million upfront to acquire them. The agreement also positions Kala to receive up to four commercial-based sales milestone payments. The milestones start with a $25 million payday if Eysuvis and Inveltys achieve $50 million or more in aggregate global net sales in a calendar year from 2023 to 2028. Alcon will trigger the top, $160 million milestone if annual sales hit $250 million by 2029. Only one milestone payment will be paid per calendar year.

The near-term benefit for Kala is that the deal extends its cash runway into the second quarter of 2024. Importantly, the runway is now expected to last beyond the release of data from a phase 2/3 clinical trial of KPI-012, a candidate Kala is developing to treat persistent corneal epithelial defect."
