Company cars

Good grief!! I am amazed at the whining about a company car. It is sad if this is your only vehicle, but it is a very in-expensive way to travel. You can always petition for paying for your mileage, but that is subject to big tax implications if you try to screw with the system. Just drive the car you are given and enjoy the new car every year or so

somewhat agree but when the car cannot for your family and you pay for personal
Use and nailed on taxes to drive something that has you put a child not old enough or big enough to ride in the front seat to make sure all 3 get to daycare on time ... the 2 car seats in the backseat don’t allow for the middle child to buckle much less the fact your trunk is filled with novartis crap and no room
For backpacks etc ... it’s an issue to some but what do I know. Hey charge me
Personal use whatever ...

Beat the shit out of that car and shut up!

Then do what everyone else that makes a 6 figure salary does- buy your own dam car. You cheap fuck it isn't Novartis problem that you have 3 lazy kids.

I have to agree--you should not depend on your company car to haul child seats, kids, etc. You should have your own vehicle

It's a company car you entitled freeloader. You pump out three kids that all need car seats, then buy your family a Suburban or Tahoe on your own dime and stop complaining about the perk.

The way I see it, the car, 401k, stock options, health plan, salary, bonus are all part of the package. If another company offers a safer larger car then that saves me from having to buy an suv as well as gas.

AGREED!! Get over your sanctimonious self, you entitled assholes!! It's a company car. There are millions of people out there just trying to put food on their tables. Please, TRY to get a little perspective!!

Yeah, With all due respect it is a company car. You can beat the shit out of that car. I still say the big difference between a company car in a car that you own yourself whether it’s 4WD, Hummer, whatever, is you’re willing to take the company car ANYWHERE,And you don’t really give a shit if the kids puke and shit in the car you spill Chinese food all over the backseat.

Wut? It’s a car.. that they charge me for that I have no personal use for. Additionally they store it at my house for free. I have other cars so why am I getting penalized for this company car as well?

Honestly, I think they should store the car in my territory. This way I don’t have any “personal” miles that we all accrue per the IRS to get to our first office. Also this would save me about 40 minutes in the morning after I drop the kids off. It’s taking away from my time in the field to have to drive 20 minutes back the opposite direction to pick up this company car after dropoff

Waaaaa you poor thing- sue the SOBs

Do you are supposed to go home, switch cars and then go get your kids? Clearly you have never juggled working and taking care of a family.
Well we’re paying you to do your job. Your choice to have children was yours. I have made the decision to not have kiddos. To each their own but I’m thrilled to have a company car. Much less than what I would have to pay vs. owning my own car. Own the bed you made and be grateful for all the benefits (a salary plus most would beg for) you have been given. Can we stop this nonsense thread.

I disagree with the last post-please do keep this thread going, I marvel at the stupidity and entitlement of some reps. If you’re coming to this board to complain or seek advice, I’d recommend looking elsewhere. I did live in the south years ago, and it wasn’t uncommon to see a child seat in the front of a pick up truck... with the family dog... just saying it is an option and I’ve seen it done.

Most of Novartis Pharma is gonna fall into to $90-125k salary band, plus comp. translation- stop being so cheap and go buy or lease a family truckster and stop cramming your families into your smelly, catering car with sauce stained backseats-have some pride.

NVS pays you to use your car for work and that should be then end of discussion. Company cars are really not meant to take the family to the grand cannon for vacation or cart 3 car seats to daycare- you probably have a spouse, use them for help-yes I have kids and bought my family a large vehicle to drive them around in comfort-you can too. I could care less about the auto deduction and you shouldn’t either-stop holding it over Novartis’ head and stop being so angry. I’ve heard this argument for years now, If you actually make a sale or 2 two and limit your complaining you may just be able to buy yourself a nice family car.

It's ok to ask what kind of company car but too complain about it is absurd. Novartis is not responsible for planning your personal life or finances.

As far as salary goes, it is dependent on which division you are in, how long you've been there, etc.

I completely agree that you should not be charged for it if you are not going to use it for personal use. That’s like charging a cop for the patrol car. No you shouldn’t have to store it, either.
As far as switching cars at home goes, my husband has a work car that he can’t drive for personal use, and that’s exactly what he does. We also park it on the street or in the driveway, so I don’t see the argument for storing it. My husband does not get charged for his work car, though.
To the person that doesn’t even know how to use the term “could NOT care less”, you can call it entitlement all you want, but it’s a valid point. It is very odd for a business to charge employees for the use of equipment necessary for business that the company owns when there is no personal usage.
My guess is that the company would be hard pressed to justify it if challenged legally.
People get bigger care for height and weight and other reasons. I would challenge it though HR that either you need a bigger vehicle that you can use for personal use or they need to stop charging you for the car.

Oh, and who cares if you lived in the south and people put kids in the front seat of a pick up. It’s not safe! It’s not even legal to do in cars with a backseat in most, if not all, states anymore! The airbag manufactures state that children under 13 should not sit in the front seat, because it’s not safe.
I’ve seen a lot of stupid things, that doesn’t justify repeating them. That is beyond ridiculous!
FYI - I’m not the original poster. I am just amazed at the lack of logic and empathy for the OP’s situation.
