Company cars

From feedback during "year of the field" it is seriously being discussed to opt out and get a car allowance in 2021. Stay tuned....

To clarify- you can still do the company car but an option to opt out is being discussed and will likely be added. It won't be as generous as what you see at some of the biotech companies but still a decent option. This was discussed for Immunology and oncology.

Good grief!! I am amazed at the whining about a company car. It is sad if this is your only vehicle, but it is a very in-expensive way to travel. You can always petition for paying for your mileage, but that is subject to big tax implications if you try to screw with the system. Just drive the car you are given and enjoy the new car every year or so

It’s not about the car per se. Its more about the size and safety. Smaller cars do worse in an accident. Visibility is worse and not having a 4x4 in heavy rain is also dangerous

NO.

In rain/snow, traction matters most! Tires are the pivotal piece of equipment.
No matter the vehicle (AWD/4WD/FWD/RWD), a vehicle w/ tires that have little tread depth will brake/handle worse than a vehicle w/ tires that have a lot of tread depth.

If you do NOT go off-roading or live in the widlerness on unpaved roads, an AWD system will serve you well.
AWD works automatically in the background, sending power to the wheel(s) as needed. A 4WD system, generally speaking, splits power between the two axels (front/rear) all the time (50/50 or 60/40 are the common power split design).

Search the Internet for "AWD vs 4WD". You will find useful articles from many reputable sites, and learn the differences between the two and why AWD will be for most people.

Is there a monthly deduction for car? At current company they do not deduct. Only enter personal mileage.

so how much per month is the company car deduction? I pay $150 with current company....hope it’s less or about the same. I’ll find out at best start training in jan if no one wants to share now.
