Buying out SDI?

Thank you for the warm welcome. I look forward also to becoming, and hopefully remaining, a team member of IMS.

Dont hold your breath buddy. The amount of redundancy all the departments are going to have will be huge. I only hope IMS lays off more people than SDI did to Verispan, and their own people.

So what did we pay for these jokers. I heard they are a $100 million company, losing business and barely making money. Sounds like we proabably paid $50 - 60 million for the Kress Family Klunker.

$100 million???? Versipan was a $100 million company when I left in 2003. That doesn't include what SDI had, so where is all this chest thumping coming from SDI/Verispan being a company that was growing???? I guess they don't count business that they lose????

Verispan was fine.
SDI was fine.
But factoring in the lost productivity of commuting to suburban sprawl-hell, sure - you'd get down to $100 mil pretty quick; WTF - who'd drive into collegeville except for...well I don't know who?

Driving INTO Collegeville is better than driving out of it in the morning, trust me. Here's the deal, in a nutshell. Verispan was floundering, before the economy. SDI started the wheels in motion of buying them before the economy tanked, and decided that even though the economy was bad - they could make it work. After failing miserably to make it work, SDI had to get private funding to stay in business. After more floundering, they tried to persuade the private funders to acquire WK, who were/are also floundering. The private funders, of course after watching the Kress boys fail miserably, said no to buying WK. This was the absolute last option Kress had, as SDI was done. Dont get things twisted either, Kress did this all for the Kress family bank account, not to save SDI jobs or anyone elses. Kress will be gone in a VERY short time. Him and daddy are going to figure out how to spend 72 million dollars. Have a nice day :)

Good summary but you have two facts incorrect. 1-WK balked at the deal giving the Kress' the only option to bail and sell to IMS at a significant discount. 2-The Kress' won't get anywhere near $72 million....the two PE firms get their piece which leaves them with a lot less although much better than they would get if they tried to hang on.

Wow. There sure are a lot of misinformed, arrogant, mean-spirited posts in this stream. Chill out and confirm your assumptions before posting, eh. Clients can read this too, you know.

It's a message board; do you really think people think about confirming their information? And I doubt customers either read or even care about either company.

As a former Verispan employee, I was honestly looking forward to getting back to the large company/professional feel or a 'real' corporation. Unfortunately, my department is one with duplications. Sad, but I don't think I'll get to enjoy working with those positive people that are so welcoming! ): Seems some IMSers actually like their job, and are outgoing and happy!

They're happy till the layoffs come anyway.

Some of us do read up on the vendors to which we pay millions. Most is crap as one can see, but dysfunction amongst the staff leads to poor analysis which leads to me losing my job because I decided to use your services. Or as in the case for the past few years, not use your services.

Read Between the Lines

OK, so as a former Verispan/SDI'er, who got out ahead of this event-- it is my belief that the only people posting on here- the "nasty" ones specifically, are legacy SDI folks who were bitter after having a new layer of management added to their once entreprenurial company after the Verispan acquisition. Any of them that actually thought Andrew or Gerry would mentor and baby them, as well as stroke their pee-wee egos forever felt threatened by the new team. For anyone reading this at IMS or on the client side, the reality is there are great and mediocre leaders at SDI, as well as great and mediocre analysts and developers- much like IMS I assume. Through this next transition, those that are worth something will survive. The negative revenge seekers can barely spell, and are likely in a "redundant" position- looking at their last few months of a paycheck. There is life after SDI people, and there will be life after IMS. Get ahead of the curve and find your next job while you still have one.

"Great Leaders"? Don't make me laugh..... JR is a joke. TL is ineffective! Under DA, sales fell apart at VS. KP never made his numbers and had to rely on Jenkins for BMS. Cooper....now he's a total joke - a total failure. Just hope IMS is not dumb enough to bring them on board.
