So the salespeople are held in complete disdain by managers beyond front line level.
Those in charge believe the salespeople are stupid crooks - if they happen to be successful they believe it is because they are doing something illegal - or it's all because of the "science".
It is actually the c suite that developed, condoned, and encouraged the field to venture into the "shady".
They subsequently disappeared when their schemes were discovered only to blame it all on the sales force.
Well.....now there's no industry left - thanks to ALL those who were RUNNING the companies!

Refreshing to hear from someone that actually worked here. You nailed it! So true and so sad. The so called leaders encouraged this behavior and then disappeared before the spotlight totally lit them up and ruined their careers. Spot on my friend.

Yes hard to swallow. BH had a good run before SH and eventually poor reimbursement doomed this company.

And now who will survive to keep the advanced lipid market rolling? TH? Salveo?

The answer is:

Quest - aka Berkeley and Cleveland
LabCorp - aka Liposcience/NMR
Mayo Clinic Laboratory

They are just lying in wait for all to fail.

That is all you need to satisfy the market and it is already there.
Now, these companies aren't gonna pay mobile phlebs 35 dollars per draw and encourage them to split up the specimens 2 or 3 ways - so that might hurt the sample volumes some. Hey, but at least there's no kick backs!

Mayo clinic lab isn't a threat.
Many large regional labs also run NMR which will always be more popular than big box labs like Quest and LabCorp which everyone has already tried.
It will be interesting to see what large regional lab will step up to the plate to give the big boys a run for their money.

okay so lets say you are right and a regional lab "steps up"

will that lab pay 1099 mobile phlebs per draw to collect and send specimens?

is it a kick back to pay a phleb per draw? the feds will decide!

You're right, but I do believe a lab will pay 1099s per draw until that is officially changed.
Quest and LabCorp are still doing it in certain cases.

Nothing illegal about paying 1099s to draw. How is it different than paying an in office phlebotomist to draw? You can employ one, or pay the other one under contract. Silly argument.

it is not a silly argument. sure you can pay an IOP to collect and draw blood all day long - even as a contractor. what you CAN'T do is incentivize ANYONE in ANY role to collect those specimens on a per draw/click basis above the 3.00 threshold set by CMS. an hourly compensation is fine and compliant.
the issue is these per click IOP's are breaking up the samples when they can and sending to all sorts of different labs to maximize their compensation. it is not in the best interest of the patient and it IS a kick back to the phlebotomist. the complaints have already been filed with the OIG and the investigations (some of them criminal) are ongoing - as we speak. don't believe me - just wait.

the cash business has been a huge success. dozens of reqs have come in from it already, hundreds of dollars. hold on folks we are about to embark on a crazy roller coaster ride.
