Base salary

My boss praised me a lot and gave me a 4% of merit increase this year which is told to be high. This is a joke. My base will never catch up with those whose seen as a low performer at the same GCF level just because I started lower. Can I expect a big bump, say 30%+, when I get a promotion?

it won’t be 30% but will be a chunk. Yes...you will eventually catch those with higher base salaries. Just keep selling. 4% is industry avg for a solid year. A few other factors influence merit increases: if a team achieves Team Excellence the DM gets a little more to dole out in merit. Also, if you are below the mid-point for base salary for your job grade you will get a little more. If you are above the mid-point....you get a little less. The starting point though is where you were ranked.

bottom line, if you are above midpoint, you get dinged on raises. Amgen likes people in the middle.

if you are making well above mid point and you make yourself sick with envy of someone making 120 and getting a better percentage raise than you, you are going to have a hard time for the rest of your life

go somewhere else

you will be replaced before the sun goes down tomorrow

step 1: realize you are a F'ing rep who makes more money than most managers and has a better quality of life

step 2: step up and go for a promotion that will require sacrifice likely including relocating your family

step 3: if you can't do step 2 then STFU and accept that you have a great gig with an absurdly high salary already with a great manger. your whine is getting old.

Spot on

NuBu here. The highest they'd start new people coming over-even if they were making more was 130. That was that absolute highest. Those came in as ACT 2.

Act 1 will never start at 130.

The raises this year were so patetic. Most got 2 %. I didnt hear of anyone getting4%. that's b.s. I think 3 or slightly over 3 was the highest.

came in last year at 128...doubtful I’m an Act 2. Didn’t get a merit increase...too new. But got stock.

Fun discussion. Looks like 130 or thereabouts is the max for most divisions not called OBU. I wonder how often they bring someone in as an Act 2 and what criteria they use to justify.

correct for OBU. Nobody else Starts at 120k Nobody! Now if you get Act 2 then you can make more but Starting our NOBODY makes 120k in base unless you are in OBU for which average starting is 145k.

So you state “nobody” makes $120 k starting; sorry to tell you there are a few. I came on board about 3 years ago and was given $122000 base to start . After a couple of good years with crappy increases and anACT 2 level up I am slightly over a base of $135 k. The average is between $110-115k, but sometimes it is higher.

I'm new and was brought in Act 2 and I am making over 130...a lot more than 130. and several people in my training class were brought in over 130. We are not oncology or white team. If they want you they will pay

Nobody outside OBU starts over 120k. That is a fact and I’m in TO. Now if you get to Act 2 you Might get over 120k. Fact there are a ton of Act 2s who make less than 120k un base.

of course OBU is different. This thread ends now

fact nubu here

I was making 140 K elsewhere and my DM had to fight to get me 130 K. I came in at 130 and started at Act 2. If you came in less than 130k you're act 1 starting out.

Typically they started most Nubu new hires at about 120. Some got 125, but again, they were ACT 2. You couldn't get Act 2 and start at 130 unless you had proof you were making more than 130.

They will negotiate but not much. Amgen pays a lot lower than most biotech. I call b.s. on the person getting 4% increase here. Its was 1 to 3% for the most part this year. The stock is not worth much
