Authorized Generic

Spoken like someone who actually knows what they’re doing. Relatively accurate, except most don’t auto cover it. Majority will have it non covered until they do a full P&T review. That could take a few months and with the lack of financial savings or rebate guarantees, the likelihood of the AG being covered (or even preferred) are highly unlikely. Plans would be giving up far too much in guaranteed rebates if they added the AG.

I hear this argument a lot and I understand it but nobody can say why they are even launching an AG. There has definitely got to be some type of advantage/benefit that they get. Can anyone explain what the benefit for AZ is?

this is NOT a typical generic. It is an authorized generic. This is AZ/Prasco selling their own ‘generic’.
The patent on Farxiga goes into 2026. At that point, once they hit LOE and there are multiple generic manufacturers, then the category could be in trouble.
Sorry but that isn't quite right. Farxiga patent is October 2025, pharmacies are getting emails from wholesalers advising "multiple" Farxiga generics in Octobe rof 2025

If I’m understanding this. It will help Jardiance because of BIs rebates, and unless AZ pulls Farxiga like GSK pulled their brand, it will help Farxiga because of their rebates. There must be more to AZs plan.

you’re not understanding it. It will not help our rebate exposure. Nor will it help AZ. Only way it helps AZ is if they are sometime able to funnel some utilization from higher rebated brand Fx to lower discounted AG.

GSK removed Flovent from the market to make room for their AG. AZ did not do this, so how is it helping them?

if (big IF) they are able to move any of their branded volume to the AG, it should help reduce their rebate exposure. The AG discount is much lower than any commercial, Medicare or Medicaid rebates they’re paying.

There are AG Rx’s across the nation. And growing! What is the incentive unless pt pays cash or uses Good Rx?
MI results across the class not favorable for promotion.
None of this was expected by BI.
Will we will make it through the year without deep cuts? We hope so, but I doubt it.

Branded MS will continue to decline month over month. The need for headcount will decline with it. If you aren’t preparing for this to happen you will be left behind. Just sayin! Get yourself a plan Jack! BI is not going to tell you their ship is sinking until the water is at your chin. You are responsible for your own life vest!

Maybe. Or maybe BI only cares about the "profitable" scripts...aka net value.

The orchestra will continue to play!

And the fat lady will sing!

stay on strategy. Jardiance managed care coverage continues to be strong with no formulary losses since the AG launched. More plans will put the clamp down on the AG because is makes no financial sense for them to cover it. Sure, an Rx or 2 will sneak through, but the AG is just a distraction.

Mix some vodka with your Kool-Aid, and take a look at the national Rx data. More than an Rx or 2! And it’s only 6 weeks in.
