Another Downsizing

A few people on my team have called me in the last couple of weeks and told me there is going to be another downsizing in the DBU, can anyone co firm this? It seems to be “too early” for it. They mentioned Q1 or Q2 of next year. I’ve only worked for Lilly for 3 years, should I be looking?

Wouldn’t worry. We are right sized now and can work here for 30 years and enjoy a stress free retirement.

A word of advice on downsizing overall. I once worked for Lilly and bought 100% into the “People, Culture and Excellence” thing. I want to tell you that I bled Lilly Red and I worked my ass off for 17 years. Won every award multiple times and only took maybe 10 sick days over my 17 year career. Had great DSM’s and not so great DSM’s. Went through the years of X, Y, etc. with no merit increase or achievement trips even though I was ranked in the top 1% & 8% 2 of those 3 years. Can’t count how many nights after the kids & wife went to bed, I would sneak out of the bedroom to work on Lilly projects so that my family would not get angry with me taking time from them (understandable) or being on vacation and checking email or listening in a CC so that I would not be swamped when I returned to work. Then one day another downsizing came and “POOF” it was over. My advice is to not think you at all in control of being a number on a spreadsheet somewhere in Indy. At the end of it, I treated the way any other rep was treated no matter how much extra effort was given that was in good standing. While I don’t regret working for Lilly, I do regret the amount of stress I put on myself and family that turned out to be futile in the end. Do you job well, but don’t think for a nano second you are in control. Good luck to all. Just know there is life after Lilly both in Pharma or Outside of Pharma.

Here’s the thing.... how old were you when you were let go? Lilly overwhelmingly gets rid of reps 40 years old or older! Lilly culture STINKS! Don’t trust anyone in management! They are all liars! There will be layoffs next year! Q2 2019 is just around the corner!

Goofy leadership and shrinking compensation should be enough to move on from this once great company and industry. After working for Lilly for several years, I transitioned to device and make more money and don’t have to deal with incompetent political hacks like Marianna M or any of the bimbo crew she mentors. More importantly, I don’t have to work for a company that empowers that nonsense. You don’t either!!
Use this downsize or reallocation as a way to transition up in your career. I’ve been much happier. There is life after Lilly and it’s amazing!

In response to previous poster... I too, once worked for Uncle Eli. After transitioning to another company (with significantly higher base pay), the thing I realized is that Lilly's culture is pure toxicity. It is a place that encourages backstabbing and betrayal with the promise of being rewarded by leadership. They blinded us all with quota trips to make us feel better about the low-ball salaries they paid... made us think it was a "privilege" to work for three years straight with no merit pay increases and reduced bonuses. Do yourself a favor...after three years, take your hard-earned scars, sales awards and new survival instincts to a company that actually values their people and pays them what they're worth. Another note...it is widely known that Lilly is actively recruiting undergrads with no experience so they can, and I quote "pay them $45- $55k a year." Word on the street is that they're offering external DM candidates $80k a year. Do the math folks... Lilly does not and will not ever care about acquiring top talent... they only care about their bottom line.

EVERY company cares about their bottom line. Not just Lilly. The grass is NOT always greener on the other side. It's just different. For every toxic person you meet here, you will meet one somewhere else. Maybe some of the posters ought to work at a public service job to appreciate the salary and benefits there are in any pharma job. Whining about NO pay increases and reduced bonuses? Tell that to your kids' teachers. I get tired of all the whining when there are many many people who make A LOT less for the hard work they do in other professions.

HR insider here...layoffs in November...it is confirmed....very bloody...get out now..

Layoffs happen everywhere...I've been through 2 here. But one thing is always true- the Strong always remain. The weak leaks are gone. The difference is knowing if you are a weak leak when you think you are strong. Management found me 2 different roles after being displaced 2x and if it happens again I know I will be taken care of. They know who can SELL and who can't.

Regards

Hands down the most clueless post on here. I made it through 4 layoffs and when I got offered to move to Indy or across country again I realized I was worth more.
If you can SELL, then go SELL where they pay you for it. Idiot!

They pay you quite well here- well some of us anyways. But you have to perform consistently and play the game. The money isn't the problem here- its always playing the game.
