The problem is not so much with the R and D employees but with the R & D physicians that they hire in. These people are clueless about research, they try to develop "relationships" with everybody they meet, have no experience in clinical research, make decisions based on key opinion leaders who more care about the compensation they are paid than helping us, and rely on commercial and marketing to guide them. You have R and D physicians who push everyone to meet arbitrary timelines so they can get their bonus.

Leonard protected Sullivan who NEVER DISCOVERED a drug in his life!! His claim to fame is that he taught chemistry in college!! OMG did Management get the wool pulled over their eyes on these LOSERS!! The only person in R&D with the guts to call out the fiasco was Jeff Leiden and Miles felt threatened and made sure to get rid of him. As a shareholder and employee, I say the DAMAGE has already been done for the past 15 years of R&D FAILURE!! The time is to TOTALLY CLEAN HOUSE and only acquire new drugs through acquisitions!!

Get rid of the commercial influence on R&D. Commercial doesn't like this, commercial doesn't like that. That is what is really holding R&D back. Since when did commercial even read science?? Screaming scientists who raise issues about this fucking structure are ignored and golden boys like Elmore, Shoemaker who know rat's ass are constatnly promoted. Commercial brings in the $s!! If it wasn't for commercial, all you R&D losers would be teaching at community colleges or junior highs!! Where is our drugs for Alzheimer's, Parkinsons, Schiczo, etc? Oral monoclonals? Diabetes meds? ETC> ETC> ETC>!!! Two decades of no new drugs from R&D - - - what a colossal waste of time and money! Good Riddance JL!!!

Nope you are really wrong about this one.
Commercial has jobs because the business people were savy enough to acquire BASF, Solvay etc. R&D has delivered nothing, nada, a big fat zero. Abbott/Abbvie has survived solely on the skill of it's business people. The scientist have been nothing but a big drag on the company.

OMG!! Our commercial products were acquired from other companies!!!! The achilles heel at Abbott/Abbvie has always been the lack of scientific/clinical expertise!!!! We must hire the bottom of the barrel scientists as well as physicians who are not bright enough to treat real patients!!!! R&D must GO!! FACT: NOTHING innovative in Abbvie's pipeline; me toos acquired from other companies. Name one program that is groundbreaking???? Our R&D folks are like the Chinese in copying competitors' science!! We have SEEN the video of the rat that had a severed spinal cord almost completely healed after getting an injection of one of our compounds in early trials!

We have read about the frog in South America that will be the starting point for a whole new type of pain compound!

I have read the training CDs for Sertindol!

We have sat through the group testing with other reps for our new hydrocodone drug!

Oh, wait a minute..... none of those exciting new CNS drugs are here yet.... well, soon. Just wait another few months, and I am sure they will be here soon. Really, just wait.
