ZYPREXA PATENT EXPIRES ON April 23, 2011

Not only does Zyprexa account for a huge amount of gross sales, since it has been out for a long time and its developement costs have been recouped many times over, it makes up over 50% of Lilly's profits.

So soon, Eli Lilly will loose 4.5 billion dollars in sales to generic.

Nonsense. The community mental health clinics love us, and will never leave the brand for a cheap generic. The loyality we have built up over the years will continue to pay dividends in brand specification, and I predict that sales may actually slightly INCREASE for Zyprexa just because of the increase in noise level. Our share of voice will jump, and so with the prescriptions. Just you watch!!

Good thread, that is exactly what management said when we had Keflex, Ceclor, Prozac, Nebcin and others, it is funny as you mature the saying "What goes around comes around" has a different meaning.... By the way what are Lilly sales for the above mentioned products. Has sales "slightly Increased"????????????Enjoy you 9+ calls per day.

I totally agree. I would buy used toilet paper as long as it bears the Lilly Logo. Nothing could ever tarnish the pristine Lilly reputation. We be the best because we be Lilly.

Talk about nonsense. You must think your customers are stupid. Generic Zyprexa will cut the price 80% easily and nobody in this economy throws away money. Make that LOTS of money as expensive as Zyprexa is.

Sales will drop off a cliff in a year and a half (just like Prozac did) when this sucka goes generic. But unlike Prozac, there is no savior waiting in the wings to lift sales. Year X never made impact but the next 5 years are going to be brutal. $20/share soon. Just you watch!

Lilly stock will never reach $20 a share only because the wolves will be ready to pouce on it when it goes under $28 a share. They already have a strategy for when to buy and how to break it up and sell it off. The initial phase of the plan includes shutting down the duplicate administrative overhead also known as downtown Indy. If you can't yet read the writing on the wall, you're a complete idiot.

There is no way that Lilly will EVER be sold. This company has too much pride and with the aquisition of imclone, there is no way anyone can afford to step up and buy us. We might have a few rough years but that will pass. Lilly stock below 28 bucks a share??? You must be nuts. It is a basement bargin where it is at right now. Just wait until Prasugrel sales explode shortly and some of the imclone products make it to market and start building the oncology franchise. This company will once again lead the industry again, just wait.

I would not be overconfident about prasugrel. It's only approved indication is for coronary interventions - surgery - which will increasing be discouraged in favor of safer and cheaper alternatives ... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090830/ap_on_he_me/eu_med_exercise_vs_surgery Let's face reality, any kind of preventative medicine will be favored in the new health care paradigm, which is based on prevention, not intervention. Put all your money into Alzheimer's preventatives, all you need is something 20% better than placebo and it will be bigger than Prozac ever was. Since exercise is such an excellent preventative, anything that gets folks off the couch or out of the office and into action should qualify!

I can get you a great deal on a nice bridge in San Francisco once you return from MARS.

It's arrogance like yours that has brought this company's future to an end.

I agree. It was just a few years ago that the management team at Lilly would have told you that you were nuts if you said Lilly's stock price was going to drop down to $40 a share. Those who have never worked anywhere else but Lilly believe this company is invincible. They would have laughed at you a few years ago if you had ever mentioned the word "LAYOFF' too. Fools sink with their ship.

Long timers' best hopes are that they survive the next 5 years and the company emerges with some form of a rebound after that. In the meantime, anything could happen. The company has already started breaking off chunks. Sure, they bought Imclone, but that was a hail Mary to fill the gaping hole that will be the Zyprexa and Cymbalta patent expirations.

What I do know is that 5 years is a long, long time for executives to strategize and that's almost never good for workers. Certainly science has taken a back seat to deal-making and collaborations...most of which have been a disaster. So, thinking about running the actual business of R&D and all its details does not seem to be the plan going forward. Instead, the plan appears to be moving things overseas. Whether it's IT or science or whateva, everybody's moving to China. I think the company will ultimately will be sold or management (including HQ) will decide to move out of the US to avoid skyrocketing taxxxes designed to pay down the deficit. BTW, LLY will be a front-runner in this as they always are with international moves....so don't be surprised if this happens within a couple years.

Wow, this is great! I happend to have quite a large amount of used toilet paper that does indeed have the Lilly logo. If you just pay for shipping (9,000 lbs, which is 500 lbs for each year I have been here), I will GIVE it to you.
Where should I send it?

The stock won't drop that far, only because investors have already priced this risk in.

Lilly can be bought, but why would anyone buy them? The pipeline sucks. For those of you who are new, Lilly has been claiming their "pipeline is the best in the industry" and I have seen so many phase 3 drugs fizzle out it would make your head spin.
