ZYPREXA PATENT EXPIRES ON April 23, 2011

I agree. It was just a few years ago that the management team at Lilly would have told you that you were nuts if you said Lilly's stock price was going to drop down to $40 a share. Those who have never worked anywhere else but Lilly believe this company is invincible. They would have laughed at you a few years ago if you had ever mentioned the word "LAYOFF' too. Fools sink with their ship.

I put on my life jacket and swimming now.

here is how it will work:

On April 24th, al insurance companies covering Zyprexa will MAC out the drug. Meaning there will be a Maximum allowable cost, beyond which the pharmacy will lose money if they use the brand product. Since all existing prescriptions are not DAW1, they can be changed immediately to the generic drug. The generic will come in at 85 to 87 percent of Zyprexa price and have a 6 month grace period to make $$$$$$. Ten anyone can bring it to market.
The hospital and military markets will change over immediately as well.

If you want a great example of what happens, study Keflex or Prozac's trends after expiration.

After having been outsourced by Lilly a while ago, it will be my pleasure to switch patient from the brand to the generic. At least some satisfaction and Karma balancing.

Be thankful that you will not be there after the ship hits the iceburg.

Were you here back in medco days?

Oh great! Now Zyprexa generics will be able to trash consumers with Metabolic Syndrome, Neurological Impairment and Diabetes at one tenth the price!

Lilly and it's sales reps must be so proud for being the product leaders of such a uniquely toxic compound...

You are an IDIOT! Zyprexa has side effects but the chronic illness that it treats is much more debilitating! The benefits out weigh the risks, and if it was my family, I'd want them on Zyprexa. Don't speak about things you have no knowledge of....

That's funny, because we want you and your family and your family's family on Zyprexa too, because it ensures lots of ¥umm¥-for-m¥-Tumm¥, whilst keeping the population down....amazing how that works, ¢ha-¢hing!!!

I'm counting down the days like an early christmas, will no longer have to worry about $240 dollars a month. And won't have to worry about putting schizophrenia on my insurance and then get fired again because human resources couldn't keep a secret.

I've also seen news on the web that says this patent doesn't expire until October 2011. So which is it, and why the discrepancy? Is there any chance that the patent could be extended beyond either of these dates?

Zydis patent loss on April 23rd. Parent molecule patent loss on Oct 23 2011. There will be no extentions.

From drugs.com
Olanzapine is not for use in psychotic conditions related to dementia. Olanzapine may cause heart failure, sudden death, or pneumonia in older adults with dementia-related conditions.

You may gain weight or have high cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) while taking this medicine, especially if you are a teenager. Your blood may need to be tested often. Visit your doctor regularly.

Olanzapine can cause high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). If you are diabetic, check your blood sugar levels on a regular basis while you are taking olanzapine.
Olanzapine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking olanzapine. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather and during exercise. It is easier to become dangerously overheated and dehydrated while you are taking olanzapine.

Only people I have seen get diabetes was those whose psychiatrist was too dumb to realize they will never stop excessive eating and the client was too dumb to see some one else. Zyprexa will be generic until Oct. 2011 when the second patent expires. As someone who relies on it I am counting down the days and will never get fired from a job because I needed my insurance to pay for it.
