Zimmy update

The fixaroo is in.

SANFORD, Fla. - State prosecutors are asking the judge in the Trayvon Martin murder case to instruct the jury to consider lesser charges - manslaughter and aggravated assault - when they begin deliberations Friday.

Zimmerman's attorneys have objected, and Judge Debra Nelson will hold a hearing Thursday morning to decide whether jurors should consider the new charges. The jury would still have the option of convicting Zimmerman, 29, of the second-degree murder charge that prosecutors sought when the trial began.

This is not un-typical, I pointed it out awhile back and everyone here said, 'No'.

It will be interesting.

Vag, this is being done after the defense has rested. They have no way of defending against that charge now. (per Mayor Rudy Giuliani) They are also asking for aggravated assault and murder 3 w/ child abuse. Zimmy's lawyers are flipping out and even the pundits on TV are incredulous. They've noted that there is enough that this will have to go to appeal if found guilty on the lesser charges and the illegal conduct of the judge.

I'm not justifying it, all I'm saying is this is NOT atypical. In one of my first posts when the case came up, I related a discussion I had with some attorneys in the family (not liberal attorneys either) and they said for certain the judge would give instructions to consider lesser charges, it usually happens. This was back when the charges 1st were brought. This should not be a surprise, unless of course, you're a well paid actor which most attorneys are.

So of course the defense is saying this is illegal and of course the prosecutors are arguing back. The more they argue, the more they get paid.

And remember, attorneys often become judges and even congress people. And when they get to congress, the arguing escalates - and so does the pay.
And so does the sliminess on both sides.

Giuiiani got paid for his appearance. All defense points for any charges were given at the trial. There would be no new points to bring up.

I finally watched a bit, the prosecutor did make an interesting point - both were afraid. Imagine if you were a 17 year old, white boy walking home in a predominately black neighborhood, minding your own business and some older white guy in an SUV started following you. You hid - then saw him get out of the car to follow you. You might be afraid, no? You might decide to punch him out. All you wanted to do was to walk home and had he not followed you, all you would done jus that - walk home. Zimmerman was afraid too which is why he had a fully loaded with hollow points. But he was far less afraid than Martin and had far less reason to act. He had far less reason to pursue Martin than Martin had to walk home. We'll see what the jury says but I think the answer lies somewhere between 2nd degree murder and acquittal.

I also think someone should nominate the lead defense attorney for Best Actor of the Year for his 'mock outrage' scene. This shit happens all the time.

Have you ever wondered why they skipped the grand jury?

Have no idea nor do I care. I haven't been following until today when I heard they treating this like most cases are treated as far as jury instruction.

They had no case for 2nd degree but they do have one for manslaughter. It's a coin toss. Again, I don't think Zimmy intended to kill him from the git but had he been white, I think he never would have got out of the car.

Don't have proof but in general, celebrities (like Rudy, Geragos, etc) get commentary fees when they comment on news articles. Why else would he have said anything?

Proof source please. I want to know how Rudy gets paid for 5 minutes on the Geraldo show just taking a phone call. I'd also like to know if they paid him to have that exact opinion.

No, they pay celebs a monthly fee to be 'commentators', film their remarks and use what they want on shows. He can say what he wants, they can use what they want.

My predictions...jury finds him guilty of murder--second degree and he's sentenced to 40 years in prison.

The six women will come back fast with their verdict as well.

You cannot separate the actions of George Zimmerman to justify self-defense. Meaning the big picture requires the jury to look at his actions in total...from beginning to end. He left his residence with a loaded gun--not with intent to go to Target but to pursue 'those assholes who always get away' (spite & depraved mind).

Yep. Haven't even been following it, but was scanning channels and stumbled on the final reading. Really expected a lesser charge of some sort.

Totally wrong as usual.

Praise God!

A dozen Travons will die in the streets of Chicago this week, and no one will care. What was so special about this case? Reporters in questioning the defense and Martin family Lawyer, still are calling Zimmerman white.

I did too -- Involuntary Manslaughter, at least. I truly believe he knee-jerked his reaction to seeing TM walking the streets of his neighborhood. But then again, nobody knows what really happened between those two, and one of them can't talk. So, it boils down to the evidence. And the prosecutors just did not have anything to prove the charge.

According to the fedreral gov, all brown is now white. White of hispanic descent.....
The reason this got so much press to begin with is the Anglo surname.

As if Zimmy didn't have enough of an uphill battle. This type of crap should concern everyone in Florida.

The special prosecutor appointed to the George Zimmerman case has sacked a whistle-blowing colleague who testified at the trial that the state attorney’s office failed to comply with the rules of discovery.

Ben Kruidbos, the state attorney’s office IT director, was reportedly fired in the wake of rendering testimony during a June 6 hearing that was potentially damaging to the prosecution regarding cell phone photos and text messages discovered on Trayvon Martin’s phone that were not furnished to defense attorneys.
